This is quite a bit beyond rustled but here goes.
My 2nd sister lives in Chicago, Hyde Park, and has for a very long time. She's basically a saint as a person. We've tried to get her to move but she is a year or two or from retirement and just wants to finish out. She went to the hairdresser yesterday and later that evening has a very bad neck ache and the worst migraine of her life. She isn't prone to hyperbole. She woke up blind in one eye which resolved a couple hours later but she still had the headache and neck pain. 4 of our siblings are doctors and a few of us work in the industry with extensive experience all over hospitals. We all basically begged her to hit the ER. I wasn't in the loop until after she got there, the rustling part.
They triage nurse saw her and said, well the eye resolved so that is good, it's about a 6.5 hour wait. She called me. Unfortunately I have a lot of experience with modern ERs. I told her point blank ERs in major cities don't do any triage beyond the basics and if they aren't moving someone with a possible stroke or aneurism in pretty quickly I'd go home and call an ambulance. I'd lie and tell them my past symptoms as if they were happening right now and get fucking seen before all the fat fucks with belly aches. She didn't do that, she stayed. They moved her wait time to 10.5 hours. Sometime in the morning she gave up and got an appointment with a doctor later today. Her condition is getting worse as time goes on. Yeah, I'm rustled. This is a quick CT and resolution thing. I suspect this the an equity hospital where Whites are moved to the back of the line but who knows, maybe they are just bad at their jobs. I'm an 8 hour drive from her and here I am wishing I had made the drive because it turns out I actually had the time.
Anyhow, if you find yourself in the position of needing to go to the ER with something that isn't a heart attack or gunshot and need to be seen quickly, just call an ambulance. At least you have a chance of being seen.
