Follow up car rant....

Take my car (mentioned previously) to the dealership to get the "experts" to determine what is causing the whirr sound. Drop it off a week and a half ago. They bounce it between different "specialist" groups. Finally today they let me know. Oh, we can tell there's some form of wear or damage in the transmission coolant pump, you'll have to replace the transmission, that will be $15k please."

I tell them "well, button her back up, I'll come and get the car and then think over what direction I want to go".

They're best counter was "Well, that's almost what the car is worth, would you like us to put you through to the certified pre-owned group to get an offer for a trade in?"

"No, I'll just pick it up. thanks."

Call a reputable Transmission place (multiple friends with CTS's and CTS Vsport/V's recommended him). He immediately says "Yeah, they're trying to sell you a new transmission, chances are you need the pump replaced, or at most a rebuild of your existing transmission, probably $3k tops for a rebuild, bring it by".

So I'm MINORLY unrustled driving the car home. I get home and look in the trunk and see this :

They didn't put EITHER of the debris/spash/whatever guards back on the bottom of the car.

Go back to check the front of the car, becuase there's a flexible rubber flap which is part of the front end which directs air into the coolers and see.....

Now ripped up because they didn't put the debris guard (hard plastic) back on under it...

So what will you do first? Make the dealership fix that fuckup, or get the transmission fixed?

Never ever take your car to a dealership if you can avoid it. Warranty work is one thing, but for anything else...nah.

Seems like all brands of dealerships are sucking wind these days on techs. Good ones are in really short supply.

Worst I've seen: a guy on another forum had a few months old F-150, took it in for warranty work. Truck was there forever. One thing Ford does now to avoid lemon law is to say parts are on back order. Back order skirts lemon laws in some states. Anyway, several techs came and went, and he decided to pick it up to take it somewhere else. Truck was completely torn apart with parts in the bed and cab, and had been like that in the winter. Previously new interior was filthy. Dealership didn't give a fuck, and neither did Ford. There was no way to realistically reassemble it because parts were missing. He eventually got his money back, but after many months. He would have been fucked if it was his main work truck and he had no ability to buy another one while he waited for the brand new one to get fixed.

People simply don't give a fuck anymore.

Yeah, the first I do in a new area is try to find the quality mechanic who owns his own small shop.

He didn't what he was talking about. The car is around 6 years old and worth (looking at offers I've gotten) around 25k. (2017 CTS Vsport)

Yeah, I have one which I have taken the wife's car to. Great guy named Minh who runs a little shop called Jacinto's Automotive in the back corner of a Mexican flea market. In this case I just pinged a few Cadillac friends (wierd to think I have those..) and three of the four came back with the same name for transmission work. A shop that seems to specialize in Caddys.

To top it off. The dealership in question is of note because the founder LITERALLY WROTE A BOOK on turning people into lifelong customers via manic customer service....

Inspired by Hoss post in the pickle thread.

I don't think I've ever gotten one of those "pick the squares" captcha right on the first try. Every mother fucking time theres like a corner of the bus or motorcycle sticking partway into a square, and I click it, and the little electronic bitch is like "haha wrong try again".

There is some fundamental logical error built into these things. If the square has even part of a motorcycle wheel in it that counts, fuck you.

The number of correct squares is usually the square root of total squares

If it's a 3x3 square box, clicking 3 boxes is usually the right number,

4x4 square box and you typically need to click 4. Don't click 8 boxes because 2 pixels of a bus bled into another square

Not always 100% but probably 80-90% of the time

The fucking worst is ambiguous ones. "select all the bridges" meanwhile there's an overpass, an aqueduct, a pedestrian walkway, one legit bridge and then an earthen berm with a road cutting through a valley.

I appreciate you detailing the logical error that I was referring to.

I'm not sure my OCD will allow me to take advantage of this hack, though. Pick the obviously correct answer (the bus wheel in a square counts) or pick what I think the computer wants? Knowing the error may actually make it more rustling

Haven't heard of that. But I know they will lie on the report to avoid them too. Take it in for a clicking sound while driving down the road. They can't find a problem but they change your oil, so the oil change gets recorded as the reason you came in instead of the actual complaint. If you're using dealerships for warranty work, don't let them pull that kinda shit.

My mechanic for the past 40+ years died suddenly back in july. I'm still looking for another one.

The original mechanic had retired and passed it on to a new guy. The new guy is the one who died suddenly.

Yep. Ford is also facing a class action lawsuit over the fuel pumps in their diesel trucks. They grenade and take out the entire fuel system and sometimes the engine. $8k-$20k fix. Ford denies warranty work, saying customers used bad diesel fuel. Imagine paying $80k for a new truck, only to have to drop another $20k on it.

Ford has the highest warranty costs in the business. 3 billion a year. GM is $1.5 billion. This is why they will do anything to not repair the shit they build.

Any idea if you can pony up 2-3 grand and swap something ahead of time to prevent this. My old fuddy dud 74 yr old father insisted on a ford when he went and got his truck..

My dad is a mechanic and our entire family does whatever he says. We all drove Jeeps for 20 years. Now everyone has a Toyota. He'd always tell us "If you buy a Ford, you better learn how to work on it yourself or win the lottery because I ain't touching the fucking thing".

Mechanics I know all love fords. Especially the diesels. Ford's put food on their tables. When a dodge diesel rolls in, he probably just needs an oil change. When a Ford Diesel comes in, that's gunna be a good Christmas.

Is your dad a professional/commercial mechanic or is it more of a hobby / sideline work?
