in my state, just putting a snap trap out on someone's or public land would gain like 3 charges that is even without the intent to hurt a pet.

Same, glad I have no idea which neighbor it was because their house would be on fire.

as far as police go, what would I say. Someone in my area put a trap somewhere with no further helpful info.

You have to tell them even if you think it’s not much to go on. Maybe they have other info.

At the very least, you establish the paper trail. Document injuries, vet trips, etc. too. Maybe post anywhere your neighbors might see (online or maybe local boards or whatever) that someone is trying to kill their pets? If you make enough noise about it, even if nothing else comes of it, it might put some fear into whoever did it.

Called them, they are actually sending an officer to get more information. Also reported it to local animal cruelty SPCA on their website. Will keep yall posted.

I assume they forgot to stake the trap down and the cat just came home with it?

Reporting is the right move. There might be a pattern, and it could keep you from doing something stupid if you find out who it is.

Vengeance indeed, the pain my wife alone is feeling doubles my rage. We ended up taking her to ER vet a d putting her down. Leg was too mangled to save and the cat is a feral so no way to keep her inside. Absolutely heartbreaking, I hate people.

Probably a future serial killer teenage boy. Do you know where it was placed? Put up a trail cam to try to catch em coming back to check it. If that happened to one of my animals I wouldn't have called the cops, now they have your name and # if you ever do figure out who did it. Cops are 100% worthless for anything short of a full blown homicide.

That's why I said it was good he did to stop himself from doing something stupid later if he find out who did it.
