Idiots like you are why developers try making apps with 1000 features, and the app fails because it has no core value. This game is a hollow wow clone reskin, anyone claiming otherwise has blinders on.
Pretty much. People are so desperate to tout this game as some great game. Its not that good. If it was some great new innovative game we would all be talking about how fucking awesome it is.

Dunno, I think it's more desperate trying to convince people they don't like something they do.

Real innovation comes out of iteration and not radical departures from the acceptable and normal. People didn't go 'oh fuck, what if I make a spinning clamp device with grooves that you put Bisquick in and heat with electricity and it will make waffles!' in the late 1800s and thus modern electric kitchen appliances were born. They first stopped at more generally useful concepts like, you know, the stove.

This game is not world-changing, but it is an actual step in the right direction instead of 'you know what people want? HEXAGONS for wheels because they want more angles!' or shitty execution that most other MMOs since WoW's release have succumbed to. WildStar is solid and stands a chance of actually being a good entry in the genre. If nothing else, it reinforces the notions that people have been looking for a WoW evolution and not a revolution and hopefully the industry starts being a bit more realistic and tactful with their approach to the MMO-sphere so in another 5 years we could have 'the best game ever' once again when someone out-WoW's WoW. WildStar will not kill WoW, I don't think, because WoW hasn't really killed itself off like EQ did. They've started giving in to terrorist demands to make their game palatable to too many people. It just means it basically sucks for everyone, they can just stomach it. It will take another round of MMO development and likely Blizzard themselves to finally do WoW in.

For me the real test will come when there is something out there I want to play more then this. Right now there isn't and WoD certainly isn't it. At least not the little I've seen of it.

Oh great, the innovation argument.

I can list you tons of games with new innovations that have come out in the last 5 years. Guess how many of them succeeded?

I don't need some crazy new shit to enjoy a game. Wow had no crazy new shit, they just did shit well. Wildstar does what they did well and expanded upon it and added much more to it. This is WoW 2.0 and I hate to break it to you, it's enjoyable.

In case anyone isn't aware, when you place items in your housing area some of them give you buffs. There are five kinds of buffs - Ambience, Aroma, Comfort, Lighting and Pride. Each can be rated low, medium and high.

The important thing is this : as each buff increases so does the amount of rested XP you get. Also rested XP applies to elder point gain once you hit 50 !

From reddit, easiest way to get high in each :

I have complied a very simple list of the items that you can easily find and afford that will give you the large buffs so you can obtain the most rested xp possible. (Note these can be shrunk down as small as possible and will still give the maximum buff so you don't have to show off something you think looks stupid. Size doesn't matter here
wink.png
Secondly, it can be inside or outside of your house.)

Lighting: Draken Tallhorn Brazier Location: Whitevale Quartermaster (In Palerock Post) Cost: 3s 69c (Dominion) Floating Glow Lamp or Exile Chandelier (Exile)
Pride: Chua Bookshelf (Tall) Location: Housing vendor Cost: 4g
Aroma: Wooden Wall Planter Location: Housing Vendor Cost: 1g 50s
Ambience: Charming Bar Location: Housing vendor Cost: 4g
Comfort: (This one is a bit tricky as anything that you can buy from the housing vendor costs 15000 renown or more.) Therefore the best option (for cheap/free) is this: Granok Four Poster Bed Location: Moonshine cabin challenge; rare drop (If spending 15000 renown floats your boat, the Draken Sofa gives the large comfort buff.)

The next best way is to contact your friendly neighborhood architecht. Or go to the auction house. Either way the supplies or the cost of these items shouldn't be too high. Here are a few choices.
Large Comfort Buff Items (Architecht):
Stonebrick Lopp Fireplace Cost: Ironbark Wood x4, Titanium Chunk x2
Comfortable Dominion Bed Cost: Augmented Hardwood x3, Rockhide Leather x2, Manaweave Cloth x2
Simple Lopp Pillow Pile Cost: Whimfiber cloth x5
Simple Exhaust Fireplace Cost: Ironbark x4, Titanium Chunk x2

Coming to this game from playing FFXIV and HOLY CRAP crap it's so responsive. I forgot how a properly netcoded game actually played.

The intro is a bit slow and the UI needs alot of mods to get it to a decent state but once there I have to say I am enjoying it more then any recent mmo in the last few years.

Playing a scientist so its really scratching my OCD itch too.

I'm actually really liking it, and I thought it looked stupid as hell at first. Music is nice. Just wish I had that lore hook that wow had for me (for part of it anyway, they kinda lost me after Wraith).

Last patch was a little disaster: I need to login a few times now (with the 2 steps procedure) because it gives me a network error. It crashed me twice with the 64bit client for memory errors, while the 32 worked flawlessly.
The worst offender although was already happening pre patch and has worsened: there is a delay with the mob health bar updating for the damage taken and it's not its shield. The damage *I* take works perfectly and is updated instantly, so I know it's not internet lag or a data packet loss. Some other people in my guild are experiencing this as well.
I don't know if it's the Carbine unit frame addon or something else, but I was wondering if any of you had the issue and has found a workaround.

Last but not least, my vga temp climbs up to 74?C and while far from the danger zone, is still way hotter than I like. Admittely the summer arriving early may have something to do with it (its freaking hot), but still worrying me that Wildstar is the only game stressing my video card so much.

Well, I will say that the game hasnt been fully optimized yet. It used to take my PC a couple minutes to load in and then when I left the game, it would take even longer. (just to LEAVE the game). If I alt+tab over to my browser window while Im playing the game, I have to wait for it to... i guess clear memory? Enough to use the browser. Which I have 8 gigs and I know thats not a lot but more than most people have according to Steam demographics. On the flip side compared to your experience; yesterdays patch just about killed all my load time when I enter and exit the game. All you can really do, if you like the game that is, is be patient. I feel like theyre working on the issues as fast as they can, and since the PC market has such a wide array of hardware and drivers - theyre getting more data on whats out there and playing their game than what they did in Beta.

I would try disabling your addons before going to nuts on the name plates thing. I cant get the game to save my settings with name plates and profanity filter anytime I log out. Kind of curious if anyone knows the file this shit writes to so I can just go hard save the shit myself.

Finally, I understand your concern over your video card. Once it hits 90 degrees C then you're in the "danger zone." Try little things to help with the issue like cleaning your video card, and if its a nice video card - manually turn the fan settings up to high. This is the second Geforce Ive owned. The MSI Geforce 465 and now the Asus Geforce 770. Both have had a setting within my options to do this and it worked wonders for some games. The room I keep my computer in hasnt gotten hot when playing this game, so I cant say Ive had the same problem as you.

But some of you say literally this exact same post whenever a new MMORPG comes out. I guarantee you if you go to the FFXIV thread you'll find an almost similar post(s) when that game launched. There were numerous posts on FOH that said Rift was WoW 2.0. And that's the point, is it just that this is just the next iteration of WoW 2.0 (better than the other WoW 2.0's?) or is it just the new and shiny honeymoon period that it seems every single MMORPG that has come out since WoW goes through?

Edit: The irony is all of these new games are probably just as good if not slightly behind whatever the latest WoW expansion is.

I hit 20 last night and did Ruins of Kel Vorath, that was a lot of fun. I did it with a pug since I am way below most of you guys in guild, but it was great anyway. The fights require a level of coordination that seems more like what I would expect from a raid than a dungeon, but it has been a while since I played an MMO. I am excited to try Stormtalon now, but that will probably have to wait until this weekend.

The game works fine with the 32 bit client, it's the 64 that caused issues. I have 4 addons installed, none of them interacts with unit frames, so yeah, I'll wait and see, may be some server related issue there.
My video card is a different story: it's a 770 gtx asus direct cu, with dual fan and copper cooler, but with the case closed (and recently cleaned) the temp goes up. I could launch gw2, assassin's creed 4, skyrim with a gazillion mods (Realvision ENB series), Neverwinter Online, Swtor, etc. none of these pushed the card above 70, not even close, not even if I launch two games at once. It seems WS is really graphic intensive, I'll have to play with the settings a bit probably, maybe it's enough to lower them here and there since I'm currently playing at ultra high.
I play in bordeless windowed mode (which I do with every game when able, because I prefer to never minimize, but just hide behind the windows I'm not using, faster switching and less issues overall.) In beta it helped also with framerate, but while I know some stuff, I'm no guru about it, maybe fullscreen works better, but I don't know why it would to be honest.

I used the dungeon finder for the first time to queue for Stormtalon as a DPS. I was surprised, took about 10 minutes to get a group.

I'm an Esper DPS. Everyone was new to the dungeon, except the tank. He's run it a lot, and will let us know what to do...he mentions it a few times.
smile.png

First pull, he dies everyone else lives. He tells the healer to heal harder.

Second pull goes well, 3rd pull is going well but we aggro a roamer and we wipe.

Tank says that this group won't cut it. He's sorry but he's gonna leave to get a better group.

I agree with him and say "You're right, there's no way we can carry a tank that has less HP than everyone else in the group. And that he needs a better group to carry him through.".

I'm not gonna repeat what he said since it was a bit vulgar.

Group disbanded. Ah the pugging, so much fun.

People defending this game remind me how people defended Rift when it launched. Wonder if this will have the same shelf life of that game.
As a Rift fanboy back in the day, Wildstar has twice as much quality as Rift just in animations and world design. Both games will survive ultimately based on how fast they can put out content and how good that content is.

If the internets can still stomach the standard quest-leveling/dungeon/vet dungeon/raid paradigm it'll do well moving forward.

The people saying this is a wow clone simply can't have played it much at all. The game is in no way perfect, but it definitely is distinct especially at the higher levels. When I play this game I get a feeling that the developers had a vision of what they wanted to do, and whilst Im sure that some stuff had to be cut I get a sense that they achieved that. They made the game they wanted to. The music is amazing, the combat is great. I wasn't a big fan of the combat at the start but it gets better with more amps and reactive fights as you progress. Plus, there does feel like a progression of skill. Im definitely much better at predicting telegraphs, not getting hit and timing stuns etc. than when I started , which is rewarding. The dungeons feel like wow heroics which I like, however the gold cost is too much and there needs to be better rewards for the sub 50 dungeons because its cheaper, safer and more time effective to just skip them and level through quests. The shiphands are probably the highlight for me, every one of them Ive been like "oooooh that's cool" at some point, and in between the boring collect 500 bear asses quests there's been a lot of moments like that for me during normal questing too.

I never got the complaints about the graphics. Yes, its cartoony, and may not be everyone's thing, but it's gorgeous and there are many cool and unique mobs and settings in the game. Especially as an explorer I found places that I was well aware people would only see once for 10 seconds, but they still took to the time to make it and make it unique.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if I'm into the raid grind any more, so I can see hitting a wall at 50. I'm hoping to find a cool guild that will make me want to raid with them before then since the people I was supposed to play with have had RL problems and not been able to play.

Please do. The main reason I read these forums is to get opinions on possible fixes to my MMO habit. If I still hear enough good things when I'm done moving in a few weeks (especially the later level stuff) I may pick it up. I fully understand that I can't give this game an honest, fair review while shackled with a buddy account.
If you want an honest opinion, here's mine based off of playing through level 20.

Class Design - It's average. There are some interesting concepts like Engineer Volatility etc. (which could of been better I think), but for the most part it's standard class resource systems. Some have vastly improved in the last year of design and I think they might be heading int he right direction. I thought the class design was pretty poor prior to release but they really surprised me with how well they improved things, but it's still average.

Class Customization - It's average. The AMP system is essentially a talent tree system without the branches. The only sticking point is you have to unlock/buy different AMPS so you can use them. It's nothing special. It's average.

World/Zone Design - Quite excellent. The artwork, within the bounds of it's style, is really good. The zones have great flow, the fit together well. There are plenty of POI's and fun things to do. My only complaint is the Dominion main city. Fucking thing is way too big and it's awful to get around. It's probably better with a mount.

Leveling System - It's a quest based treadmill. There is nothing new here. If you like questing, then Wildstar does it very very well. You can debate whether or not there are too many quests, but in the end, it's a quest game. Love it or hate it based on that.

Dungeons - This game has them in spades and they are quite challenging. Think TBC/Early Rift. You just don't queue up and run through them in 20 minutes and go back to questing and forget that you did something. I like that challenge, so if you're a fan of early Rift heroic dungeons, then you'll love Wildstar's.

Combat System - This is something I didn't like in the beginning, but with improved animations, ping etc. It's grown on me. It's basically GW2's combat system with shit on the ground. It's interactive enough that you don't fall asleep like normal tab target systems, but it's not as fun as TERAs. A big bulk of the system is based on interupts to stun targets where you can do more damage. I hope they expand on that in the future. More special interactions would be great.

With all that being said, there are a lot of small layers that just make the game more fun. For example, I never gave a shit about housing, but in WS you can log out at your house and it gives you good resting xp. Your house also gives you xp buffs too for 24 hours if you want. You get a recall to your house from anywhere in the world for free. So your housing is essentially a buff bot for you, however you start caring about how that shit looks.

You've got challenges all over the game that you can ignore or give a shot.

Crafting is really good in this game if that's your thing. It used to be better, but that's another story. (You used to be able to salvage items and break them apart and re-mod them at early levels but they moved that into crafting.)

There are a lot of other tiny things that make the game fun or add a spin to it, but you have to like the underlying game to appreciate them.

The game is solid and definitely worth the first month IF and ONLY IF you can get passed the quest treadmill based gameplay.
