I didn't read the books, so maybe you could enlighten me. To me it seems like Geralt spends 90% of his time fighting monsters across the land and 10% of his time doing the shit we did in Witcher1/2. Is that not true?
Whats even funnier is that ciri is the main protagonist in the book, at least in my opinion. In the latter books her story pretty much takes overs. It's actually pretty rad and I hope we get to see some old friends and get to visit places she "visited" in the books.

You probably will since Ciri is confirmed as a playable character in The Witcher 3. Though I don't think they've ever said or showed how much of the story will be from her perspective.

CDProject also said that the Witcher series is too big for their company to let it die off, so while The Witcher 3 is the last of the series featuring Geralt as the main protagonist, I wouldn't be surprised to see the series live on with perhaps Ciri as the main character. Probably embellished with a DLC (depending on how deep her character development is in the main game), followed by a full fledged game later on.

You get 20% off on steam if you preorder (total) is GoG's 20% off include the pre-order? or is it 30% off?
Ah no, it's just 20%. I thought they were giving a bigger discount on their own site. I've bought all the games from there because that way CDPR keeps all the money.

The problem with Geralt fighting monsters is that he is wearing plot armor, he might get wounded, but you know he will be fine, so you need to stuff outside of that to keep things interesting. Give him people he cares about, sorceress he wants to fuck, king who wants him to lead an army, something he can "fail" at

Any Xinput controller (360, DS3/DS4 with SCP, etc.) should work, but the control scheme was never update to work the same as the 360 version, which is disappointing.

For mods all you really need is FCR2. It changes so much that a ton of other mods aren't compatible with it anyway. I think one of the zero weight mods on the Nexus is compatible with it though, and that's pretty nice to have because that shit gets old fast. There's also a mod that removes the extremely annoying visual effects from dark equipment, if you play on dark difficulty. I can't remember if it's easy to get to work with FCR2 though.

Oh, and you might want to grab a Witcher 1 endgame save if you don't have one.

Better Texture Environment.
Zero Weight or Weight Watchers if you don't want to have to deal with weight capacity in inventory.
Dark Items for all Difficulties if not playing on hardest difficulty.
Dark Weapons with out Dark effects if using the mod above.

Other than that, I used some other texture mods for the characters.

I think only one of those is not compatible with FCR2. Newer one is the best bet.

Dark Items for all Difficulties if not playing on hardest difficulty.
That's a pretty cheesy mod to use. I'd recommend playing on Dark Difficulty anyway.

Think the marketing blitz is starting soon. People who were in Poland are still under NDA, but vlogs are starting to pop up. Apparently they held a entire LARP type event too with live actors. Thought it was for a weekend, but it lasted a week?

Sweet videos, the bit of combat animation looked pretty cool, and he said on any difficulty harder than easy the game could be as punishing as dark souls. Having your potions auto refill on meditation from alcohol reserves and being able to use them any time are really nice quality of life, make those systems more enjoyable and more freely usable.

Those videos are really, really well done. And wow, the Witcher 3 looks amazing.

That Gamespot video pretty much confirmed that we are going to get to visit those places from the book. Can't wait!

lol @ Charles Dance with the hard sell. He's probably never seen the Witcher games and has no idea what anything is about. It was the same with GoT. He had no idea what anything was about and didn't care.

He's such a good actor that he can just be handed a script and be directed into delivering a top notch performance. He's a real professional in that sense which is why he has such a prolific record. I'm surprised he hadn't done games before.

Thinking about it more, I'm a little surprised that Witcher isn't trying to leverage the GoT popularity to sell itself. The themes in the Witcher and the ASoIAF universe are very similar. Lots of sex, cynicism, bigotry, peasantry-getting-wrekt, violence and political posturing.

It gets me worried when games start bringing up their difficulty next to the Dark Souls games. Dark Souls isn't just difficult, but the gameplay is also balanced on the head of a pin. The entire game is designed around the player being consistently challenged in ways that other RPGs aren't. Specifically when you suck you have to repeat the same sequence many times, increasing your levels as you learn the content. By the time you learn the content and get by, you'll be overleveled. When you're good, you'll cut through the content quickly and be underleveled.

So when game companies see Dark Souls' success and think it's only because the game is hard, it can be a dangerous road. We've all played games that basically break down on a hard difficulty setting, giving rise to strategies that are completely outside the design.

Sounds like a good game, but I've not played the other two versions, so I'll wait to hear what you all have to say about how it plays. I'm mainly interested in combat, if it can compare favorably too Bloodborne, I'm sold.
