Yeah. I have some projects in stained pine that turned out fine, but it's got to be all pine. The uneveness of the stain would look terrible next to real walnut.

The simple bench I made on the first page of this thread is stained pine. It doesn't have that buttery smooth look look of high-end furniture, but it's fine if you're ok with a more rustic aesthetic.

Internet arguments aside about dowels vs. dominos, at least the domino being a loose tenon allows you flexibility and a little movement to get your alignment down while still providing some benefit to strength.
Jessem has their POCKETMILL system which made the usual rounds on YouTube recently. It seemed like an interesting alternative to Domino and not a replacement.

Figured I'd start by seeing if I could sell some of the less desirable pieces, which will help finance the planer to do the other pieces and see what we get.
Also, I have 2 absolutely massive Ash trees in the back (bigger than the walnut was) who have unfortunately succumb to the borer. I was really hoping to not spend another summer slinging a chainsaw.

Here’s a question for you chain sawyers out there - I’ve got a hand me down stihl ms 261 that runs great but stretches chains way before I think they should be hitting their end of life. For example, I barely get to the point to where I have to touch the raker height before the chain can no longer be tightened onto the bar. I’m very good about keeping the chain oiled and sharp.
I’m gonna try replacing the rim sprocket and getting a new bar to see if that fixes the preemptive stretching issue. Any other suggestions on what could be causing the stretch?
