Yea I've been focusing on CA/CL/BB for the most part. Destroyers are in a bad spot because of subs/carrier spotting. I used to play them a lot more. I just picked up the Hull because lol 203s but we'll see.

Let me know how it goes with the Hull. I'm not a huge fan of the big gun boat DDs usually. I'd much prefer low/mid profile torp and utility although I am terrible in a Shimmy. Cheers.

Verdict is not great. Can't really fight other gunboats 1v1. Can't really fight cruisers except broadside light cruisers. No radar or hydro. It can farm out BBs (slowly). It has those useless torps that only fire forward in a narrow arc. Basically the one funny game that I had was when a Minotaur went broadside trying to kill me and I just farmed him out with cits in a few salvos. Other than that unless you spawn on a side where another DD or cruiser is backing you up, you can't really do that much except play as a light cruiser, which means you are down a DD on that side so you lose more often than not.

I don't play battleships much. I prefer destroyers. My winrate is shit but I have learned a lot in the last year and am slowly clawing back in Gearing and Yueyang. I am jealous of your Smaland.

Destroyers are the shit, especially when you can shoot the Gap and there's a big battleship that doesn't realize you're about to drop a huge load on them.

I played World of tanks with a group of guys for maybe close to a decade since a year or so after the game came out. We just kind of play on and off, I think I probably have a tier 10 in every line.

We jumped over to World of warships at one point and the games a blast or at least it was. I've not played it since they introduced submarines, but that's probably a pretty fun deal. But there's nothing that ever beat swinging around an island and getting somebody broadside and dropping a full load on them and then running for your life.

We used to do that in a world of tanks though when the t-50-2 was the fastest tank in the game. My one buddy and I used to grind up the same trees, and every match it was wait for the game to start, and then you shoot the gap, go behind the lines and kill all of the artillery and just start sniping people in the ass.

Tanks was a pretty fun game, but all the Christmas boxes and the Chinese jet tank that apparently is retarded, another good kind, just things like that really killed it for me.

I have employed it in a long time, and I've got many of ours and dollars sunk into it. I might not be a whale but I can't imagine that my account wouldn't be worth something.

Been all honesty I might actually be interested in an FOH clan getting started and going in and at least run some matches together. I'm probably pretty damn Rusty and I'm sure most of all of the tanks that I have are power creeped, but it'd be fun to go run some tier 5s.

EXCELSIOR!

I just don't care for WoT anymore. It's too full of bullshit tanks and power creep has just made heavies that are faster than mediums (and even lights in some cases). Mediums have replaced lights, and lights are pointless (which were my favorite class).

BrotherWu BrotherWu if you don't have Incomparable I highly recommend it. So fucking broken with 20" guns and 10.6 conceal.

Yeah about sums it up. I would at least play it a few months out of the year and to rotate back over, the loot box tanks just pushed me over the edge.

It was a very fun game way back when, but it really is gold spam. That's honestly probably one of the worst things I ever did was allow me to buy a gold rounds for credits. Want to just get rid of them and everybody shoots whatever regular rounds or make he and stuff like that viable. Lord knows they nerve the hell out of that because of the mammoth Japanese tank.

Even though the goddamn special British round for the death Star got nerfed at some point.

I mean for a quick arcade game sort of deathmatch deal I used to love it, but I am so far behind despite having a massive garage and a bunch of three or four skilled crews, I don't have the crazy tank that didn't realize break various tiers.

I really need to do check out War thunder. I've watched some videos about it and it looks pretty fun but I thought they were even more predatory than the Russians and WoT. Maybe I'm wrong though, probably all Russian, but I thought more thunder was maybe Asian.

WT just looks chaotic to me. I maybe could get over the module-based damage mechanics, but the crazy stuff at higher tiers where you are pixel hunting at extreme range to find some camouflaged vehicle in the woods just isn't as interesting. WoT, for all its faults, is straightforward mechanics and gameplay. I just appreciate what I'll call 'arcade sim' vehicle combat.

I didn't realize I got that bad at high levels. It's definitely a completely different animal. I know my buddies and I have talked about maybe picking it up but like I had said earlier so much of us have way more invested into World of tanks where changing horses at this point just doesn't seem like a good idea.

I miss the good old days of being able to play low tier stuff when you were still learning though, things like tier 4 and 5, and maybe up to tier 7 and the matches were just a lot of fun. Problem is there's always some newfangled tank that everybody's going to run and you're screwed at the rest of your team sucks.

We used to double queue to teams via counting down, and even if somebody was going up a goofy line and just trying to play something that they thought was fun, it was at least doable because you had other capable players with you. Solo que though is just AIDS now, or at least it was when I screwed around with it about a year ago. I can't imagine it's gotten any better.

And they revamped all the equipment stuff and I don't even know what the hell's going on with that. I don't remember if they implemented crew skill 2.0, but I thought that got really really bad feedback on the testing form and the last time I checked it wasn't within the game.

Oddbawz youtube channel is pretty good. Remember though there are 2 different modes. Arcade mode plays very similar to world of tanks. Realistic mode is a different game, separate matchmaking. But it makes for a much different experience without all the lit up HUD stuff. You can play all your unlocked vehicles in either mode. You also get respawns in this game. Up to 3 in ground battles. You can take 3 separate tanks into each match. And there are different side missions for different tank classes. Plus historical missions. Lots of things to do besides rush to the heavy corner and play peak a boo.

I'm not much for playing battleships. The gameplay is too slow and I'm really not very good at it.

WoWs has a lot of power creep too. They keep adding ships but they're really running out of ways to make them compelling with mechanics. They'll keep milking the whales but unless they find modes or features to make the game more interesting, I don't see how the game presses on the next few years. How many more imaginary lines can you invent?

Also, what I really want is a mech-warrior style game with tiers of mechs and super customizable stuff. But similar controls to WoT. Some of the IRL stuff is nostalgia bait for a little bit but realistically I always play the most fun thing anyway, most of which never existed in real metal. It would be fine to create a new IP to base an "arcade-sim tiered vehicle 3rd person shooter game" on

30k steel ouch. That's going to take a while since I just bought the Archerfish. That'll probably take a couple CB seasons. We normally shoot up to Storm and max out on Storm steel pretty early.

War Thunder is the epitome of tank simulator games. There have been a few try to emulate, but nothing has come close. Covid really got people into it, me included.

You start with Arcade mode which is like World of Tanks but with everything modelled in your tank and no such thing as fucking purchasable ammo (although you do have to research different ammo in each tank, you start as "stock") I hate WoT by the way, too arcad-ey. At least the HP bars in WT are hidden and by component lol. You learn tank weak spots, you learn how to start judging ranges (or memorize ranges from your favorite spots), you learn to drive in low spots instead of shadowing yourself on a hill-top.

Then you play Realistic because you don't like doing a flank and having the entire enemy team be able to see you do it.

But you never play Simulator battles, because that is for psychotics.

The only real bad thing about the game is that planes in ground battles can be spammy and kinda cheesy and you get lots of revenge bombs. Lots of solutions have been suggested (like not showing where the guy who killed you is located, or a CaS free mode) but Gaijin hasn't done anything. CaS is valuable to pry a tank out of an infinitely defensible position though, so there should be some sort of balance found.

I have tanks researched to at least 8.3 in every tree, most of the German tree, and up to 10 in US. Yes, the funnest BR range in the game is probably 3.0-6.7, but with learned skill the game is essentially the same at 1.0 to 12.7.

Edit - I am a dopamine addict, which is why I play ARPGs, and the carrot of researching tanks and researching components in tanks (and loving tanks) is what keeps me playing. I bounced off WoT because there was a limited stable of tanks you could research and keep unless you paid for extra slots. Bullshit. I MUST COLLECT THEM ALL.

Edit2 - Oddbawz and Phlydaily were the two big channels I originally watched but they have both mostly abandoned the game. Odd still puts a vid out occasionally, but rarely. I should start a channel with how much I play.

Gaijin had an April Fools event in War Thunder with mechs that everyone thought might have been a precursor to a new game, but it never materialized.

They typically test out novel mechanics and ideas every April Fools.

In WT you have a roster that starts at 5 (I think) and you can expand it with ingame currency and then premium currency. You earn respawns by game actions, the spawn cost of your tanks increases with each spawn, so if you do really well you can spawn 5-6 times in a battle. I think at the very beginning of the game in Arcade now with the Reserve tanks (which are the ones unlocked at the beginning in each tree) you actually get a number of respawns but that is only at the start (and in Air Battles as well) to make sure newbies don't get one and done immediately in each game.

SORRY guys, someone mentioned War Thunder and a demon appears. Don't get me started. Next to Path of Exile, WT is my favorite game of all time. And also my most hated, because it is PvP and in a PvP game your pleasure is someone else's pain, and vice versa. WT is essentially an Anger Management Simulator if you want it to be. My review at 1800 hours played is below. Gaijin has since fixed a bunch of the issues I mentioned, including repair cost issues as well as the premium account grind (you cannot get negative silver lions in a game anymore). I've amassed 19 million silver lions since they fixed the repair costs.

In WoT, tier 10 games are pure fucking cancer. It is the tier the majority of top players play in, and it is also where most of the absurdly broken tanks reside. The problem now is that the bulk of the average and average+ skill players have left the game, so you get matches that are nearly always lopsided in terms of player skills, and almost every match ends in a complete blowout.

This is zero fun.

Their match maker places tier 8/9/10 tanks in the same queue. Sometimes you get a mix of tier 8-10 tanks, sometimes tier 9-10, sometime tier 10 only. These days, tier 8 tanks do not belong in that queue. The majority of tier 8 tanks have low alpha, no armor, and they are going up against tanks they cannot pen and can end them in a single clip or a single shot. Blowouts are also normal in this bracket. By blowout, I mean 1-14, 2-13, 3-12.

It was common for me to do the equivalent damage or more than the rest of the team combined. One a team of 15 players, most of them did maybe a single shot of damage or none at all. This leads to blowouts after blowout. It is no fun when you are on either side of the blowout.

Wargaming can't fix it now, because so few people are left playing it. What they should have done long ago is to have two skill queues. 1 for average and above players, and 1 queue for below average and new players. Limit tier 9 and 10 tanks to their own matchups, and make tier 8 the only tier it matches against. They can't fix it because then they'd have to fill all the tiers with bots, and WG's bots aren't any good.

Basically, it's a dead game.

Yeah count me in as one of those players that left.

Like I said earlier we had a decent sized group of us, and then a few of us ended up joining up pretty decent plan at some point doing the clan wars. I had plenty of tier 10s, and just typically get the new line researched whenever they came out.

We started playing I guess maybe one year into the game's release, and this was back when the matchmaking was real wild. You could roll up on the is3 and be driving a little turd tank, but it was fun and scary because you'd be yelling on ventrilo what do we do!

I just know the last time we all fired it up, tier 10 was just abysmal. I relieved though enjoyed playing the tier 10 Japanese heavy and was pretty good with it, and then they nerfed the hell out of HE.

I still watch quickie baby on occasions just to kind of see the temperature of the game, but at this point I don't know if I'll ever really go back. It's a shame though because we used to have so much fun on gaming night. Think my absolute best match was 12 kills in a Cromwell, which is one of my most played and fun tanks especially at that tier. The tier 8 Russian medium was probably my other favorite tank but then it started getting out classes completely.

Hell my buddy and I used to just running BT2s just because they were fun matches. When we were learning the game we decided to race up the Russian light line, finally got to the tier 4 and 5, and what I was waiting for the match to start and then Rush in and hunt down artillery back when you can have a retardant amount of artillery on a team.

I know the last time I played it though I'm not near as good as I used to be, I know everybody's slinging gold and knowing weak spots and how to play certain tanks doesn't seem to really matter.

It's like Slaanesh69 Slaanesh69 was saying though, I'm one of those types of people that was always grinding up every line to try to get every tank, got to catch them all, and it probably isn't a good idea for me to pick up War thunder as much as I want to give it a shot.

I just missed the good old days of World of tanks before the HD patch. It seemed like armor actually meant something, but now you got those crazy tanks like the chieftain and that Russian 279 that are just nuts, and I don't even know what other crazy stuff they've added and like a year. I just know that Chinese rocket premium tank was completely broken.

I wonder how much my account will be worth if I actually tried to sell it on some site?
