One of the first things I'd do upon logging in was removing the shift requirement. Shift-click was to NOT autoloot for me.

Seriously you think the lfd tool was the beginning of the end? It's one of the best additions to mmorpgs ever

You know what else is a classic experience?
People not streaming during Classic WoW

Make them upload montages to warcraftmovies like the good ol' days and prevent the faggotry of streamers/snipers ruining servers

I can see the argument against and for the LFD feature. For me personally, I prefer the old way where you needed to make friends in game to get dungeons done. When your friends weren't online, you could go to the dungeon entrance and join up with strangers that sometimes lead to you making new friends. The interdependence lead to some of the best times for me in MMORPGs, but... it also lead to some really bad times as well when you ended up with complete assholes.

After LFD started being used in most MMORPGs, it felt like people just didn't care anymore. They knew that no matter what they did, said, or anything had zero affect on their ability to get dungeon groups in the future. Maybe others didn't have the same experiences as I, but I can say with out a doubt that to me it felt like the toxicity of players in dungeons went up ten fold after the introduction of LFD in MMOs.

The odd thing is that it's not that way in all MMORPGs though, so maybe it's more a reflection of the communities playing the games than the effect of the feature itself.

I can now be an absolute 200% asshole to everyone I group with, with zero repercussions. I have no reason to be nice, no reason to make friends with them. I can quit the group after the first wipe and get into a new one in less than 10 seconds.

I was wondering, is the auto loot feature in WoW Classic? Anybody that has played beta or stress test know?

I really liked being able to just right click a corpse, and everything automatically went in my bags. Call me lazy, but it's a quality of life feature that I love.

Yes it's in.

LFD doesn't belong in an MMO. The shared collective pain is part of what makes the game memorable in the end. Some of the stuff I still remember to this day is Furor yelling at me. He was wrong most of the time, but still.

If you don't want to deal with the cat herding that is MMOs, but still want the character progression of an RPG, try a game like PoE.

Those saying that LFD being terrible for an MMO go ahead and remind me the last MMO you played without one. Tell me how many years it has been.

You don't remember just how much it sucked for the vast majority of people to not be able to get a group with ease.

I am playing EQ and for live servers people like Tuco Tuco just box an entire group rather than find people. The time locked servers the grouping happens during expansion launches and then it's back to guild cliques that if their specific friends aren't online they just log off. I don't know another game that doesn't have some kind of matchmaking because you need it to keep people in front of the screen playing your game.

How many hours from now until the name reservations are up?

And you just log into the game as if it were live and create a character?

If you were able to make groups fairly easily, either through smooth talking skills, or lots of friends, being a group leader helped the group scene immensely for Everquest. The ones that had troubles were those that through up LFG, and just sat around waiting for someone to contact them.

I don't mind some help in finding a group. It's the "click a button, get automatically ported to the dungeon, all the quest NPCs are at the zone in, do the linear dungeon content that you can't really fail, no one says anything to anyone, turn in all the quests, get dumped back right where you were" version of dungeons that I don't care for. It completely trashes verisimilitude and turns a persistent world in to an activity lobby when there's a bunch of other shit in the game that is already pushing things in that direction.

The last MMO I played with out a LFD feature was EverQuest on the Selo server, so not that long ago to be honest.

While I understand what you are saying, I have to point out that EverQuest is a special snowflake among the blizzard of MMORPGs. EverQuest does not lend itself solo nor duo friendly for most of the game. In the early expansions, there are next to no options to effectively get anything done with out a group. Sure you can solo some stuff in the open world, but the experience is painfully slow doing that. It's very hard to use EverQuest as a example in my opinion because of the overall design of the game.

When it comes to a game like World of Warcraft, if you can't get a group for a dungeon, you can go do all non-dungeon content with ease. There's always something you can do in the game when you can't get a group. The only thing that you are being barred from when you don't have a group in WoW is the dungeons.

In my opinion, comparing LFD in a game like World of Warcraft to a game like EverQuest is like comparing apples and oranges.

That being said, like I said earlier in this thread about this subject, there are some MMORPGs where LFD is an ideal feature. One in particular (for which I will probably get told to fuck off like last time I mentioned it) is FFXIV. The LFD tool in that game works like a champ. I have only ever had one bad experience with a random player in that game in a dungeon. ONLY ONE. I don't know if it is the nature of the game, game play, content, or community, but it just plain works. In comparison, my personal experiences with LFD in World of Warcraft from back in the day (not recent because I don't play recent WoW to know) was about a 50/50 chance of running in to a pure toxic asshole that ruined the fun.

I think a LFD tool is fine, but we don't need a raid finder difficulty. LFD just gives people a streamlined way to find a group. I don't really see a problem in that. Why make a process harder than it needs to be for no reason when all most people want is help finding a group? Still require people to run to the dungeon and everything.

My group of friends are set to take on 5 man dungeons already so I don't really care either way.

You guys are wrong because m+ is what you do in endgame and you can't use lfd at all for that

You have to travel to dungeons just like before and make your own groups

Argument squashed you're all retarded

Yeah back in its heyday I never had problems getting groups in EQ and I was a fucking Ranger of all things, lol. . I can understand the problems now, sure, but EQ is a shell of its former self. Most that are left on live servers like to box, and who can blame them, the game is pretty much tailored to boxing.

But even when I played on the no box prog server for a few months I never had problems either.

Last 2 times I palyed wow, jsut casually leveling up new classes and shit I stood in orgrimmar and spammed LFD over and over lv20-85 or whatever the level cap was. It wasnt a bad experience, I had fun. But I would not call that a mmorpg at that point, its no more than a lobby dungeon crawler at that point.
