Im in the same boat as you. I've never healed in mmos and i plan on healing with a monk next expansion. the macro listed above is how i cast everyone of my beneficial spells. for my ui i keep the player and target frame just above my hotbars and grid is above that just below the center of the screen. if you Google setting up grid some resto shaman has a good YouTube guide for it then just tailor the side icons to suit your class.

So I finally got my first toon to 90 this weekend, (IBT dirty filthy casual) and went straight to timeless isle and started opening chests to get my gear up, it was fun figuring out ways to get to the hard to reach chests, got my ilvl up to 489, started doing lfr raids, but without quests the game has slowed down a lot, there seems to be a lot of options but i'm not sure what else to do. honor points? timeless coins? whats the best way to spend my time waiting for lfr's?

you have mounts, pets, achievements, professions, dailies, trade chat, alt tab porn. the question is what do you like to do then i could probably tell you the fastest way of doing it. its hard for me to tell you how to enjoy doing something.

I had crazy completionist OCD. I found that making my own goals with the parts I enjoy to be the best way to enjoy WoW now. I still haven't touched pet battles yet either!

By the way, I did buy that new Visual Companion. I tend to really enjoy wow's art books and this has some high quality art. The rest of the content is sorta "cheaper and easier to find online" but I guess it might have a bit of that "this is what happened in cannon" vibe. Decent bathroom read/art book. Not sure its worth the money if you're on a budget.

I play Paladin and use Grid for my raid frames and pretty much heal by targeting the player, hitting the keybind for whatever heal I want to use, then targeting next player, repeat. I've never had issues healing this way but I'm generally the odd man out as most everyone else uses mouseover macros where all they do is click that players raid frame and the heal goes off. Most people in my guild either use multi button mouses or alt, shift, ctrl, etc modifiers in combo with mouse buttons to heal. The two exceptions are that I do have flash heal and cleanse on mouseover macros and bound to the side buttons of my mouse. Personally I think unless you have a problem with framerate or latency, where minimizing button presses could be helpful you should just do whatever is most comfortable.
Clique - Buffs Debuffs - World of Warcraft Addons - Curse

That combined with Grid is all you need as a healer.

You quoted me, though I am going to assume you meant it for the guy I wrote it to. But, for those who want to heal with keybound mouseover macros, I will second your endorsement of Clique.
That was me and I appreciate people's input. Are you using Grid in 5 mans as well, Clique too? I'm not familiar with Clique outside of hearing about it and using it for 5 minutes yesterday, it seemed like I just found flash heal to M1 which was a cluster. I'm at work otherwise I'd just google it. :p What's Clique do compared to a mouseover macro? For Grid, I had assumed it was for raid frames only and I'm a long ways from raid healing.

#showtooltip Enveloping Mist
/cast [target=mouseover,help,nodead][help][target=player] enveloping mist

This sort of macro is another extension of the one posted earlier, basically when you mouse over grid on a person it will cast the spell and if you have no target or a hostile npc targeted it will cast it on yourself. I'm pretty sure i can even make a macro that will cast beneficial spells on players when you have the mouse over their grid frame and cast a nuke when you have a hostile targeted, that way you can have two buttons in one. If you set your spells up this way there is no reason to use clique unless you want your left/right mouse buttons casting spells instead of a mouse over hotkey. If you want to use clique you set it up to cast spells via mouse clicks and use alt, control, shift to modify what spells you want those two mouse buttons to do. This is all personal preference of course and I'll look at my macros some more tonight to give you some more options.

Grid is both raid and party frames - it's not necessarily more effective than the default ones, I just find it more efficient and less cluttery. I don't use Clique, but basically it's an addon that allows you to rapidly configure mouseover macros and set them to a keybinding - actually a mouse button binding. So once it is installed, it gives you a Clique tab in your spell book and you can click it, then go find the spell you want to bind - i.e. Flash of Light and then Alt + Right Click and from that point on, whenever you alt + right click their raid/party frame it will cast flash of light on them. It's very handy if you have a multiple (more than 5) button mouse and want to use mouse buttons for most of your spells. I however, prefer to use my action bar for most of my spells and just click my target on Grid, then hit the spell I want to cast. So click tank press 3, etc. For situational spells, like Lay on Hands or Hand of Salvation, I use the other bars and then set a keybinding like Alt + 3. Cleanse and Flash Heal I do have mouseover macros for and bind them to my side (4th and 5th) mouse buttons. For progression raiding, I usually have some hard target macros #showtooltip Lay on Hands /cast [target=tanksname] Lay on Hands that I keybind - but I wouldn't waste my time setting them up for an LFR or anything.

Sorry, I thought I made that clear in my post... I want to gear up and raid. I haven't been into raiding since MC and I would love to see the SoO content.

My bad I took that as in what should I do while I wait on my queue to pop. If you have the ilvl to queue for your LFRs then the LFR gear itself would be the last thing you can do to advance your characters gear. You should also start the Wrathion questline if you haven't yet even if you don't pursue the legendary cloak hardcore ( doing all LFRs to get quest items ) any LFR you go to can drop tokens needed for the cloak and in enough time you can get it. Getting what you need to boost your ilvl high enough to get into SoO should be your primary focus if doing LFR is your endgame. PvP gear is really shitty for PvE now, so I wouldn't bother with Honor unless you specifically want to PvP. Lastly try to catch a Celestial raid or tag the boss once a week because they can drop normal mode Tier 16 gloves and legs. Sha, Nalak, and Oondanasta drop gear, but only Oondanasta and Nalak drop 522 gear ( Nalak dropping Tier 15 gloves, and legs, and Oondanasta non tier pieces ) Most pugs want around 500-520 ilvl for flex and 530-540 for normal SoO they are pretty dense about that ilvl jazz, but such is life. Getting into SoO progression would be tough atm as most guilds are still trying to clear it, but in a couple months after end of the tier attrition you should be able to find a roster spot easy. Flex guilds on my server are always looking for more because their are diamonds in the rough in trade chat so good attitude, general class knowledge and dependability would get you in one of those guilds. I always looked at WoW Progress to find a guild that meets my needs as a raider if you don't mind server transferring and are really hardcore about joining a progression guild quickly after you gear some more. The website takes a while to update but it will point you in the right direction to finding what you want server/faction/raid times/environment etc.

You're def gonna want to pickup clique and experiment with mouseover macros. As disc most of our hard targeting will be on adds/bosses for atonement heals so having clique and mouseovers for beneficials will be very useful. As far as what to use mouseovers and clique for, I don't know if there's a clear answer. Whatever works for you. Just use them to try and making healing easier. I know I use clique for penance and pwshield that way even if my left hand is busy moving me out of shit I can still easily use those abilities on the move.

Your best bet is going to be sitting on the Timeless Isle in between queues and farming rares/coins. Don't gamble because they nerfed the drop rate from the gambling boxes, but you should have no problem buying one burden within a couple of days and making some decent progress that way. If you haven't yet you are guaranteed a burden from the blazing chest near the sanctuary(google how to get there).

Hit 90 on Saturday morning. Tanked all wings of ToT LFR; only died one time to a slug... got mocked by DPS parsing 30k. Slug's have insta-kill mechanic.... noted.

My sole research into each boss was to whisper the other tank, tell him I'm new, and ask what to do. LFR is easy; ignore all the mechanics, get loot.

On a side note, it was pretty hilarious to hear the raid's lamentations when I told them it was my first time in ToT wing 4. At least 5 people were proclaiming it'd be a wipe fest and people were arguing to kick me. Can't wait to see how much of a catastrophe SoO LFR is. I actually got into a flex raid using oQueue at iLvl 480, but people started freaking out about my gear so I got booted shortly before we were about to pull.

The new LFR raids are always a clusterfuck. Even worse now since many competent LFR raiders are just doing flex raiding. I'm at the point where I'm not even going to attempt SoO LFR for about another month, maybe just the first wing but that's. 2-5 stacks on every boss and 3 hours to kill 4 bosses is lame as hell.

ToT is old hat now, so even the shittiest players still know what has to be done. SoO is still a shitfest which I am avoiding for the most part. I run LFR once to get roughly familiar with the fight mechanics, then I dive into flex (which has more mechanics, but most of the stuff in LFR is the same as in flex).

The first wing of SoO is usually not too bad in LFR. Maybe a couple of wipes on average, but nothing too painful. The second wing tend to be a lot worse though. Kor'kron Dark Shaman and to a lesser extent General Nazgrim can be a nightmare in a bad LFR.

Anyone willing to Recruit-a-Friend me and actually play with me for the Triple exp? RAF shuts down for an unknown amount of time tomorrow (16th), but they said already linked accounts will be fine. I'd like to make a Horde DK (so would have to get something to 55, then re-start as DK). Obviously a fairly populous/balanced economy server is preferable.

I live in Germany (GMT +2) timezone and have the next 4 days off with nothing much to do.
