Blizz is 100 percent for hard-resetting at every expansion. That being said, you don't need it due to the catch-up mechanics currently in place. I went 1-90 as a new monk with no friends in about 3 weeks just questing/dungeoning, then was raid-ready in the same day with the Timeless Isle. The raid scene is in a great place, and I had a good time. That being said, I think I'm done until the expansion because my friends persuaded me to play red 99 with them and a substantial part of what game I play is dictated by what my friends are playing.
If you're interested in raiding in any form, then you'll like what blizz has created with the LFR/Flex/Norm/Heroic progression. If you aren't a raider then PVP is the end-game and I can't enjoy WoW PVP -- LoL is just so much cleaner. My limited grasp of WoW pvp is being annoyed at CC and thinking "this is dumb".
I'm completely aware of all those mechanics, wasn't really referring to all that when I posted.

Hard Reset: I meant the whole game in general. Like a new area of the expansion where you can go 1-90 quickly and get into the new stuff. Instead you have to slog through the new 1-60 and all the expansions before getting there. More layers that I don't really mentally feel like doing even though it's 1-3 weeks of casual gameplay.
I was hoping that item squish would actually bring number back to reality. Instead of people doing a billion dps, it would bring numbers back to reality. I suppose it's really context. If you've been playing all along the progression means something to you. To me it just looks nutty.

I'm in the same situation as you Draegan and the game has kept my attention for the past week, albeit I've only put in about 8 hours of /played time.
I haven't touched my 80 Paladin at all, just started a goblin rogue so I could see newbie zone and what old world changes were made in Cataclysm.

I did that with a level 30 goblin shaman back in Cata. I bought MOP to try to get into the game as a Monk. I ended up doing just the Monk newbie experience and quitting.
