There were DPS meters but a lot of people weren't fucking doing good DPS on a regular basis, but fuck kicking them and trying to find replacements with 40people raids, people who logged in for raid night AT THE RIGHT TIME and without missing nights randomly were more valuable than high damage for a lot of guilds. There wasn't really any sort of hard enrage mechanics for a while in wow, so early on in vanilla it didn't matter, and yeah as a result people were playing fucking awful and it was whatever. You still had people showing up to raids with no enchants, no potions, no flasks(granted these were stupid annoying to farm and shit so it was better to setup a guild bank by selling MC runs and then buying them for everyone). The top end did know "how to play" the game though, for the most part, just a vast majority of people didn't, and there wasn't anywhere where they could read how to play and at least maybe try a little bit.Eh, the 1.12 talents and the revamped itemization (+hit and +spell damage on dungeon gear) are the biggest things that have impacted Classic clear times.
We had threat meters and dps meters in MC/Ony after a month or so.
