So much outrage over non-flying, maybe they could make the game just good again? That'd probably be best.

"Good" is elusive. Focusing on features is easier.
Focusing on features is what got them here in the first place. They iterated and iterated on design, boiling it down via metrics and when you're left with is an empty world that you never go to. Instanced dungeons and raids half the people don't know where the entrance is. And a queue system where you sit in the capitol city or your garrison every day going in and out of.

They stopped designing a good game a long time ago and started designing really cool features that fit into that game.

The caveat is that they were all pretty good features for the most part. You had fun with them. This is all obvious since they have so many subscriptions, but it all says that their lasting effect on the sub base is less to be desired since they are losing a lot of subs faster than usual now. It's the end result of a design philosophy that they went to far with.

Yeah, but they even managed to salvage failing subscriptions with the token system. They still gettin paid.

Not only that but they make more in one month selling some mount or pet then a game like Crowfall has raised in VC and crowdfunding over its lifetime.

Have they released mount/pet sales before? I didn't think they did that. But I would believe that stat. I wonder what the percentage of subscribers purchase mounts and pets.

It's been awhile but I think when they released the sparklepony way back when they were dipping their toe in the number $2m in one day was thrown around.

Which is stuff that requires minimal human interaction or at worst an intern level of customer service. Although, you can debate how much art designer work is actually require for fluff items as well. Either way, they're raking it in.

It must be strange being a designer and seeing something you spent a few weeks on bring in ten million dollars over the course of a year.

Alternatively, it must be strange being a designer or someone who pitched an idea they were really excited for but it turns out a majority of the community absolutely hates the change.

I think that's like, the entirety of the MMO industry's design experience.

We some cranky fucks.

It kinda blows my mind that they haven't looked at the absurd fucking hours even "casual gamers" put in to single player RPG universes now a days and think, "Wow, holy shit! If we actually bring back the "World" aspect of our game again, we can make even more fucking money than we do now!"

Then again, feature-fluff shit is easier to produce. This fucking genre, fuck.

That was the worst part for me. Draenor was a decent levelling experience but then after hitting 100 I set my hearth to warspear and had my other hearth to my garrison. I ping-ponged between the two and never did anything in the world. I'd log in a couple times a week for a raid and that was my whole experience. At least in vanilla you had to run to the dungeons.

Fuck, my hearth is still set to Panda-land. Warspear/Stormshield suck balls. Only thing you ever need to do there is get your bonus roll tokens and you can take the portal from your garrison for that.

Yep. My only alt with a heartstone sets to Ashran is a mage, because he has TP to everywhere else. The others are almost all set to the Pandarian shrine, which gives them quick access to everywhere.

That was their whole problem with player housing - very loosely paraphrased they said "We don't want housing to just be something you decorate, we want to give people stuff to do there".

Well, mission fucking accomplished. Now maybe give us actual player housing instead?
