Not really, bringing back item upgrades and valor (that you cannot earn from real raiding) along with second wing mythic ilevel gear in mythic dungeons flies in the face of Blizzard's design philosophies in WoD gear acquisition and raiding (which I have enjoyed). WoD has not required raiders to step out of raids for upgrades except to obtain three weekly seals. They took out all the annoying chores and hoops raiders had to jump through. Now, raiders are going to have to run mythic dungeons weekly plus other content (if required) in order to hit the valor cap and obtain upgrades to their gear.

The timewalking additions and H archimonde mount are both great. Easy and more powerful gear acquisition is great but it should not infringe on Mythic raiding territory. Cap the mythic dungeon gear at 715 (you can still upgrade to 725, i.e., second wing Mythic gear). Also, item upgrades are fine, but let raiders earn it from actually raiding.
Here's my take. If by the time this patch comes out you aren't already in full to mostly mythic gear, then you're the type of player that is going to want other options to attain better stuff. That doesn't bother me at all. This is the end of expansion hold people over patch. None of this will impact people mythic raiding today.

Quarter 2 Legion should make for some amusing Sub # Limbo this winter/spring.
Vanilla - November
BC - January
WoTLK - November
Cataclysm - December
MoP - September
WoD - November

If it hits before September it will be unprecedented for WoW.

I actually liked the ilevel upgrade system from MoP. People didn't like it?
Two problems with it: (1) You could not automatically wear a new piece of gear that should be an upgrade. Instead it sat in your bag while you upgraded it to surpass the piece you are wearing; and (2) it made it necessary to do content a lot of players otherwise had no interest in so it was nothing more than a chore.

I guess I'm misremembering, was it valor or the lesser charms that you needed to upgrade items?

While I do miss the "oh shit looted a huge upgrade" moments, its not that big a fucking deal.

Half the shit I roll on I have to put in my bag and wait until after raid to sim it to see whether the Gem/Warforged/Uneven Stat Distribution/Progressive-ILVL bullshit makes it an upgrade anyway.

The problem is that the last part of your statement could apply to the whole game. They really have not come out with anything new in a very long time. The Garrisons were a nice try but it was half done. It is what it is.

From what they have said recently it sounds as if they believe that people are naturally grouping up for Mythic dungeons...I may be an outlier, but even when I was in a semi-hardcore guild in the BC-WotLK era I almost never had a "dungeon-crew". Sure there were some people from the cool clique who would run dungeons together and I'd hop in if someone was looking for X in /gu but more often than not I was just using the LFG tool.

I somehow think Blizzard over-estimates how many people have pre-built groups for various things. I wonder if the fact that a lot of their "pre-built" groups they see from usage statistics are due to 3rd party matchmaking has skewed things...

And that's the goal here again. I'm pretty sure the numbers of people that are doing heroic randoms and LFR is steadily dropping, to the point where it will soon become problematic for the queue times. Plus, of course, the ones that queue are the ones who actually need it, so they're bad/inexperienced/undergeared alts/whatever.

Valor puts back some geared, experienced people in the pool.

Improving the game is now a negative.

Only two things I am not a fan of, I should be able to earn Valor by raiding. I should not have to do daily heroics or mythic dungeons.

and

Mythic level gear in mythic dungeons is indeed stupid.
If 725 gear only shows up on Warforged loot and Warforged loot comes in 5-ilvl increments, the odds of you ever getting a 725 out of a Mythic dungeon are so low it might as well be zero.

Not to mention 725 is only really useful in half the armor slots (ie can't compete with trinket or set pieces).

I wanted to resub mostly because I'm bored and wanted to do like 20 minutes of halloween stuff then maybe play the game for a little. Then I remembered Garrisons exist and now have 0 interest

I had completely forgotten that Hallow's End was starting this sunday, so I come out of my city hall, and I see a yellow ! I don't usually see and guess what: You even get a candy bucket in your garrison!

Side note: apparently, they do Hallow's End on Outland, but not in alt-Outland. Not even in Ashran.

Did the 4 dailies which took me more time flying to there than actually doing them, purchased the only decoration that matters, i.e. creepy crawlies, got the 3 new pets, killed the spider and didn't get the toy, and that was it for Halloween this year. Well, almost, have to kill the spider every day until the toy drops because sometimes, you get a non-toy version instead. Isn't that fun? And farm the random rare disguise coin (that gives you the appearance of a random garrison follower once a day for 1h, stays across death). Maybe.

So if I am mistaken, I can since MOP log in at beginning of expansion, level to max get some epics in first tier raid.
Then unsubscribe with the majority until the end of the same xpac. Then resubscribe get close to end game epics and prepare for next expansion and just "LFR" to see what I missed in between ?

The only thing in WoD that you can never really catch up on with that strategy is a Garrison and Legendary Quest line. A lot of that stuff is gated by time (you can still catch up, but it depends how much you want to put in to it). However, your statement lends me to believe you don't give a shit about Garrisons or other shit that's only relevant for that expansion.

TLDR: Yup.
