On top of what Flipmode said, they also said the art and UI was very temporary. Which could be bullshit to just calm people down and hold off the bitching for a bit.

They also have made it sound like there will be a lot less followers, and you'll be going on out on the missions with them.
Yes it almost sounds like they are a bit more like your body guard followers without all the fluff mission only ones. Still its all still so placeholder filled on alpha right now no way to really judge at this time.

I really enjoyed most aspects of the garrisons. I like the ability to build/customize your own little base, and I liked having followers and sending them out on missions. I didn't like how crafting was handled/affected by the garrisons, and I didn't like how the garrison replaced a capital city as your home base. I'm not in the alpha, but my hope is that class halls will keep the good parts of the garrisons and cut the fat.

Seriously. They managed to do a chat and auction house for app didn't they? I liked the gold garrisons brought in but that's about it.

If I had to guess I'd say that the bean counters couldn't find a way to justify dev time on a free service. You might recall that the armory was a premium feature when it first released (like $3/mth or something?), but very few people used it. I'm sure when they made it completely free they also relegated it to maintenance status instead of full blown development.

I think the primary reason is that they didn't know if they were going to stick with the garrisons going forward (or knew that they wouldn't), so they felt it was wasteful to build an app that would become obsolete with the next expansion.

Pet battles are still around and still no app for them

They'd probably save money if they made an app - some people would never login to the actual game and clog the servers

When WoD released it was a clusterfuck because nobody wanted to log out because of cycling through the garrison bullshit. An App would have saved a ton of headaches on that, well that and not having everyone start at the same fucking spot. I think you are right about people that would just use the app and then use that money to keep the game time going even if they weren't really playing or taking a break.

I doubt it costs them a whole ton to have people logged in. If anything a phone app exposes some security issues so if their CS reps intake goes up 3-5% because of app-related problems they've lost money on that deal.

That's a really good point actually. They even mentioned like while the game launched that they weren't going to continue with garrisons IIRC. It was supposed to be solely a WoD thing.

I actually went to mop at launch and pet battled for xp. Each battle gave the amount a quest did and i could do them in under 2 minutes. Of course i had to go back and do the stupid train ride quest line and garrison shit

If they somehow integrated pet battles into an App they could charge insane money with MTs.

Hell, I wouldn't mind a straight up standalone version, it'd be better than solitaire or all the shitty CoC clones.

Haw, on the rerolled server (which escapes me, Hyjal maybe?) the line at the nodes for Garrison quest spawns was absolutely goddamn hilarious. Myself and quite a few others were literally just standing around until we got booted from the server spam clicking the location on the screen where we thought an objective would spawn. The fact that it wasn't instanced at release (especially given the phasing of content in general in like... every post TBC xpac) was a ridiculous travesty of intent.

I'm missing 2 music rolls, Draenor Master Angler to be completed and then I'm done with the xpack. To waste some more time I started Dragonwrath on my alt shadow priest and the second legendary ring. Every time I step into an old expansion for legacy raids, achievements and reputations, I can't stop thinking how much WoD sucks, it's so bad at everything it does, honestly it's embarassing. I came back before Christmas to complete everything I wanted to do before Legion and to "prepare" another character in case the changes to Mistweaver and Brewmaster are giant piles of shit, alongside this retarded tank/healer symbiosis retuning (again and again and again).
I hope Legion is at Pandaria level of quality, because I'm quite sure I can't stand another WoD and class halls better be afterthought where I'll spend 1% of my time and I'll be able to fully ignore them for the majority of the expansion life cycle. Fuck garrisons and minigames, give me an immersive world (you know, like Northrend or Pandaria, you made it before, you can do it again), thank you. For how silly it can sound, the farm in MoP was a lot more cool: absolutely not required, it saved on mats costs for raising all the cooking ways and could give a few small perks (extra mats for example).

Two things you'll have to watch in the next expansion are:

- The upscaling problem, in which the stuff you fight in any given zone is scaled UP to your level... if you don't have the appropriate gear for that level, you might be in trouble...
- The artefact power problem, in which you might miss on artefact power, contributing to the appropriate gear problem above.

Yeah i wouldn't do it like that again. The xp was quicker but since they force you to do the quest line and play the game as if it was a single player game there is no reason to. Battle pets is the only thing i miss from current wow however. Never understood why people hated it as its just there as a side project and not like garrisons

Been camping Huolon all week and playing Diablo, I feel like I'm started to get aids just sitting here. Finally getting back into mount farming and sheesh, I should just wait to see it on the BMAH lol
