Now that you can (or will be, can't remember if it's been implemented yet) join a BG as the opposing faction then having two factions hard coded seems outdated. It probably won't be done in this expansion, but maybe the next? Especially if it will be something like the Druid heavy Emerald Dream expansion, seeing as Druids are, technically, cross faction.

As people surmised, there's probably all kind of assumptions hard-coded (and undocumented) in the game.

You could probably get away with not touching any of the PvP-related stuff. Meaning you could still only attack the opposite faction in pvp, the tower/etc. stuff would work the same, and yes, world gank would remain the same. The biggest problem would be the chat system. Besides flagging Orcish and Common as the same langage (so that you can understand each other), you quickly get into other problems.

A simple example: due to pvp, you shouldn't have common City chat channels, because opposite factions can't enter each others capitals. But it does make sense to have a common Dalaran city channel... except the Dalaran channel is common to Orgrimmar or Stormwind, which shouldn't be common. Headaches galore.

And it's Blizzard. If they can't do it relatively cleanly, they're not going to do it. You can smack talk all you want about "lazy Blizzard", but they are still massively committed to quality.

I don't know why people get so butthurt about hard factions. I think it adds at least something original to the game where everything else was neutered. But of course I am some naturalist shitlord who also thought removing legendary quest lines wasn't so bad.

To clarify, I dont really care whether they leave in content or not. I do think it is cool when you have gear or have done content that is no longer accessible, adds a bit of personal uniqueness.

I'm not one of those guys all about gear and I don't sit out in Org or wherever in my cool transmog gear hoping people will inspect me NOTICE ME SENPAI

In my list of things i care about, this is about as low as it can be.
The game basically resets every expansion. Leave in the content because your character is set back to square 1 every time an expansion drops.

I actually felt the need to transmog to my old icecrown S&M shit because the Rogue HFC set without the shoulders looks like something a level 12 would wear.

Yea I thought it was something to do with caching all the items in the first bag so any increase is a massive infrastructure hit. Basically something that probably could be fixed but why bother when you can add slots in other bags.
I read an article where the original requirements for the first backpack slot were that it was static and would never change. So oddly enough the first slot's code is completely and totally independent than normal backpack code. Blizzard also said this is probably the oldest code still being used. They've gone through and tried to refactor and re-work the first-slot code but when they did there were so many tangental bugs that would crop up that they've just decided to let the code be and never promise to increase that backpack.

Yeah, the quest & event engine can track three (I think) things - "kill X/kill # X", "hand item Y/hand # of item Y to questgiver", and "Complete escort with Z" (and I'm not sure on the third one).Everythingelse is done via a "kill X" trigger and an invisible bunny.

Today I learned about exploding bunnies. Very interesting. I read a bunch about this stuff today and from what I gathered they used invisible bunnies back then because they had very low poly/animation counts and wouldn't lag up the place. Also exploding bunnies are awesome. Nowadays they can use towers and other stuff but they are still referred to as "bunnies."

Its not so much butthurt but more than factions don't really make much sense any more. Since cata 90% of the quests in all but a couple zones like frost fire are very nearly side agnostic where you are getting the exact same quests with the exact same quest givers. If we are that friendly x faction already why not let people group with buddies who happen to be horde or alliance.

Question about Legion for people who are in alpha. Are they reverting the gutjob they gave professions in WoD and making them worthwhile again?

I don't know if the crafting is fully implementing but from what I have seen so far the gathering is very least back to being worth while. Its going back to you making your own stuff instead of having the automated building doing all your work for you. For gathering it looks like there are teirs of gathering skill that allow you to specialize or improve your ability to harvest specific things and quests/events that trigger doing your harvesting.

And the crafting profs have an absolutely teeth-grinding array of slow quests you have to do to unlock patterns/upgrade patterns, so that should keep the crafter #s down at launch, which in turn drives up profitability. The tradeskills are also dependent on materials produced by other professions, so if you get multiple characters capped/harvesting/producing specialty goods early you can produce a more efficient craft engine than the 1-character folks who have to buy their secondary mats from the AH.

Which sucks for me, since it means leveling at least 4 other characters on my new server, or dropping the money on transfering the old crafters. WTB Bulk Character Move Option Blizz.

Did they fix gathering or is it still worthless in this expansion? I could make good money in WOTLK/Cata/MOP, but in WOD they made gathering absolutely 100% worthless.
