Betting all on the familiarity card? It's no surprise that WotLK was the high-point subscriber-wise, just because of how everyone wanted to kill Arthas. They haven't really had a good villain like him since then, seeing as it feels like most people played War3 but not the predecessors.

I can not find the official post atm, but it was stated that Emerald Dream is not an option because of the limited lore and gameplay this theme would offer. Was a dev interview last year around Blizzcon, the usual "we talked about it but thought that" kind of answer.

I hear the free loot boss of this expansion is going to be called Orcalon the orcwatcher. The iron horde's main city in tanaan jungle is called Orcgrimmar as well

Lol, you guys bitching about the WOD backstory.... lets see, what do we have in other well known MMOs atm?

GW2 - elder dragons awaken to destroy the world
Neverwinter - dragons invade to destroy something
ESO - demon lord invades the world and wants to destroy it
WS - elder race vanished, 2 factions race to claim ultimate techno-secrets?
Rift - demos/dragons? from the water plane want to invade?
FFXIV - elder gods / super race wants to invade&destroy stuff?
EQ2 - some stuff about dragons...
EQ1 - had it all by now i think, doesnt matter

As far as games go, WoW lore is quite decent, but they had some really bad parts, which were either attempts at justifying gameplay decisions (belf paladins and draenei shamans) or just crap they wrote out on the fly (Ruby Sanctum, TotC raid, etc.). Vanilla was very deep, somehow hidden or not fully explained in game (e.g. Dire Maul aka Eldre'Thalas), it was not so good, but kinda appealing during TBC, enjoyable during LK and Cataclysm with ups and downs. I liked MoP quite a lot to be honest, even if I'd have taken Garrosh head right away at the end, but the story has the potential to really take off in WoD. I like the new orcs conceptually, but I'd have taken... nagas enemies (Azshara) for a change, or the Legion again (Sargeras). If they put in a troll raid halfway, the circle is complete :p

What I like a LOT of my few and sparse trips into beta, is that the button bloat is gone and I'm thankful for that and the story starts really nicely.

I don't see Sargeras ever being put in game as a defeatable boss. Where do you go from there?

As part of Wrathion's story (immediately after Heart of the Thunder King), there's something about "we must rebuild the last titan." Maybe the expac after Draenor will involve that?

About to start playing WOW again for the first time since playing for a few months in Vanilla. Would it be a bad idea to do a PVP server since im gonna be relatively inexperienced? PVP servers seem like the more exciting way to go, but don't wont to end up getting corpse camped and owned all the time if that is a common thing. Going Blood Elf Paladin if that matters.

I like PVP, but if you want to play unmolested, play PVE. There isn't even that much open-world PVP, just ganking and fucking others on quest mobs etc. Also max levels trolling lower areas by slaughtering newbs.

I think there will be Azshara time (Maelstrom), if they manage to make the underwater part irrelevant, because too few like underwater environments. Or another old god, somewhere.

I am tired of Orcs and Trolls.. I have not jumped into the beta yet but it seems to me I would have a better time fleshing the story out as a Horde than an Alliance character.. Nothing against Dranei, they at this point seem real unappealing to me.
I hope they do bring back some Familiar NPCs from MoP Like Admiral Taylor etc.. Also I wonder .. WTF is Chen gonna do now ? Just hang out in the timeless isle for the rest of Eternity or go run his family's brewery ?

IMO, next expansion will be Rise of the Defias. Deadmines was just a setback.

No, they introduce garrosh's ancestor in nagrand I think. We'll go further back in time and travel to the ancient homeworld of the orcs, Orcgus

Premade tank on PTR gets two shot by trash mobs. My live character on PTR still god status. Item squish worked gais!

Also, it feels really fucking weird missing 1/3rd of my buttons.

Was the lore that bad in MoP? At least for the larger storyline? I only raided through Wrath, but the parts of Cata I checked out casually seemed like they had a decent storyline. Never really understood the whole Garrosh rise to power story, didn't delve that deep. It felt like they had a ton of lore threads they could have followed from Vanilla/TBC that they didn't really touch on or only did in small doses.

The 'videos' are just backstory on the orcs, there is no option to join them, even if you are Horde.

I am sure our motivation to kill them will be, 'THEY ARE INVADING! DOOK THEM IN THE OOKER BEFORE THEY DOOK YOU, SUCKER!'
