Any beta bros in here to comment on the state of professions and profitabillity in WOD? The free nodes for mining etc and the huts that craft for you seem to look like they'll put the bosh on production trades.

Would like some insight.

Production pipeline problems.

Their main problem is that they insist(ed?) on having a single unified team for everything WoW. The same team is simultaneously juggling patching current WoW, producing the next tier of raids/dungeons/storyline, producing the next expansion, and pre-producing the expansion after that (although the latter involves very few people overall - but they've always maintained they're prepping the expansion after while working on the next expansion).

SOE managed to produce more than one expansion a year on average because they decided - if I remember right - to use an alternating two-team system. One team would produce an expansion, then maintain it when it was released, while a completely independent team would tackle the next expansion, so you had two teams alternatively producing then maintaining EQ. What you lost in communication, you gained in efficiency because your team was fully focused on one thing, and one thing only. The maintenance team also had one or two zones max to finish after releasing the expansion; sometimes not even that.

Blizzard's way might sound good, but we've seen the effective result: your team can't handle the simultaneous release of new raid tiers and outdoor zones, and working full steam on the next expansion. They put the last tier on PTR, fix any glitches, then switch to expansion building, which requires those nine-to-twelve months of zone/dungeon/intro raid design and production before the product enters beta.

They've announced that they had to restructure their team and bring new resources up to snuff for WoD; I suspect they redesigned their production pipelines with the hope of a more parallel process.
It goes without saying that Blizzard's quality is astronomically higher than SOE's. Sure, SOE can pump out those expacs, but they never completely revamped their systems the way blizzard does with every expac. You can't do that with a two team system. At best you could have a couple content teams and a design team, but not separating them is what makes blizzard games special.

With their current structure they can take experimental stuff (like Timeless Isle) and add it as a fully fleshed out expansion feature. Features often lead to another (think Sunsong Ranch and Garrison). It's fucking hard to make those kinds of transitions with the pipeline SOE uses. They were almost always new NPC models, environments, and armor. Very few systems changes.

i'm sad, WoD is gonna be the first wow xpac I skip. just too much other gaming stuff to play this holiday and nothing about WoD interests me. i am real interested to see how it sells though, and if others feel like me or if the wow hype train is still rolling hard
I'm intrigued by it, but have such a backlog of current games and a shiny new PS4 that I can't justify buying it. I'll probably pick it up eventually, just don't have the time for it now.

I'm sure it'll sell like hotcakes. Blizzard makes good product. The bigger question is how will retention be for those nabbing it, with so many games and other shiny new things out there.

Couple questions on WoD:
1. How long will it take to gather the 2K Garrison Resources required to upgrade to the T3 Garrison once you hit 100?
2. Do I really need to have a gatherer in WoD to keep up with all my profession work orders? I plan on running multiple garrisons with alts and with the addition of mines/garden and the ability to add a follower to these buildings do you really need mining/herbalism?
3. Can you skin wolves for Sumptuous fur? I know you can get this as a loot drop and from trapping wolves for the barn. However can a 600+ skinner kill wolves and get fur?

Soooo, finished all the chests in Timeless, got myself a nice set of gear, even got 3 burdens....except nobody fucking told me burdens are only useable on armor you have not yet converted.....

Sooo, I got these burdens, and no fucking piece of gear to use them on. I want to hang myself. u_u

Edit : Oh wait, yes...I have almost a full set of cloth timeless armor in my bank...and no fucking intention of playing a caster anytime soon.

If you run around the whole Timeless Isle and pick up all the chests and do the first quest (1000 coins = armor box) you should easily have a full set of 496 gear plus at least one 535 upgrade token. Remember that the upgrade is used on the armor tokens NOT the 496 armor. You should only use the 535 upgrade on the three pieces you can't buy from Shado-Pan Assault.
I did the Timeless Isle thing on my boosted druid a few days ago and got like half the set, and only one of the three pieces I can't buy from SPA. I thought the loot from chests was "smart" but I got like 60% plate/mail/cloth this time.

Yeah got a buttload of cloth, some leather and some mail...Just enough plate to equip myself (and I'm missing the shoulders). Got the burden from the blazing chest and two from the gamble npc.

I was so happy to get three, but now I'm just feeling retarded. I may have to level my DK from 85 to 90 just to do the chests and try to get some more plate for my warrior.

Next week gear completely resets. If you are that worried about it you may want to join a frog group using the group finder as armor drops like crazy while killing frogs.

A couple of 496-535 pieces arent gonna make a difference in just a few weeks, why bother with that unless you wanted to level that dk anyway? If you feel better, I only got 4 different pieces of cloth on my priest (and 5 dupes) but enough plate to outfit an army. Then my hunter got a whoopin zero additional cloth from doing it again. With hindsight I wouldnt bother, really.

If you really want a decent ilvl going into the expansion do this:

Get to the bare minimum for ToT raid finder, do the front half once and you'll hit Friendly with SPA. Then go buy 522 gear for all the slots they sell except gloves, chest, and ring (assuming you have a 540 ring from Halloween). That will take you to 510+ so you can queue for UBRS. From there you can get 550 gloves, chest, and ring. Somewhere in there you should buy your heirloom weapon carry, and maybe do SoO once just to see it, even if it's just on RF. Use a bonus roll on Galakras if you do, the trinkets it drops are very strong even at RF ilvl. Might want to try for shoulders/helm/boots with bonus rolls too if you never end up finding armor tokens to use your burdens on.

My point is even if you take a couple days to hit 100 all the work you are putting in now to gear a character 9 days before the expansion is going to *poof*. I would concentrate on what I consider the important items, get a Garrosh Heroic Carry for 4 or 5K and get a 569 weapon that trends up to a 620 weapon at 100 and will last you till Heroics, get your tradeskills in order and work on your nest egg to support your Garrisons.

I'm talking strict ilvl from Wowhead dump.

Anyway, the point is relatively moot: unless you're farming mythic right now, nothing you do will let you have stuff that lasts more than the time it took you to get it.

You can spam run Heroic - its a joke now. If anything, find a solid group and get your Hellscream's Downfall title from Mythic Garrosh, and the mythic Heirloom. You cant really say your work is going to poof, either. Because certain Warforged Mythic items will still be around when you go into your first Normal dungeon, and a bit further. Making those dungeons absolute push overs. Item level matters, but set bonuses and trinket effects weigh more than you think. The only thing I think Ill enjoy is having a full suit of Life Steal on my mage to help me solo older raids (MoP raids for example). I get tired of being a glass cannon sometimes.

Its not even hard to put time in Mythic now, since bosses are nerfed to hell. Warforged drop percentage is up too!
