i'm not talking about telegraphing his death, i'm talking about building up him giving a shit about the girl. The film had plenty of ambiguity and unresolved story threads, and had at least a half dozen opportunities to play it up, it just forgot to do so. Hell you get more backstory and care more about the random rancher family that gets wiped out than you do of Logan realizing he gives a shit about the girl and decides to do something about it. He cares more and connects more with the rancher father, than the girl.

The entire conversation Prof X has with the girl via telepathy that is not revealed, prof x and logan talking about it afterward, could put a scene in there
Prof X reminding Logan about when he found him and took him in, he was nothing more than an animal too, could of added a bit of exposition there to connect to the two.
Logans suicidal ideations, could of connected that too it, him deciding this was worth dying for, could of played that up
The innocent rancher family getting wiped out at the farm house, could of easily put something in there about the cost of sacrifice, etc etc. The father's last words about his dead son, making logan think about his daughter, as actually his daughter and not random paycheck.
plenty of events in the film could of been called back during Prof Xs death scene, making Logan realize why he needs to give a shit. Any one of those things, or any other variation would of worked.

Instead, we get him giving a shit about Caliban, Prof X, the ranchers, random gas station attendant for 2 hours. Then in the last 10 minutes he does a 180, decides he doesn't want the money, does give a shit, and dies for it. It was just, off, compared to the character for the first 2 hours of the film.

Like I said, the movie is this close to being a solid 9/10. It's really only missing a handful of dialogue, maybe 1 extra scene, to connect it together and make it work as a hit straight in the feels + ultraviolence fan service last stand of wolverine film.
Don't know what to tell you, seemed like they accomplished it to me. From the moment he charged the phone up and finished watching Gabriella's video about her. You know that was making him think real hard about his time with Stryker. He wasn't acting on it really until after Professor X died, but it didn't seem forced to me. I'm glad they didn't get heavy handed with it.

I really liked how the movie's big bad was just a younger autistic version of Logan. We got to see the full spectrum of his fighting that way. Old man fights well, but is overpowered easily. Young man just fucks shit up. It was pretty good seeing both. You just had to look at it like "This is what young Wolverine would have done" instead of it being the bad guy doing it. A+ action.

What a movie, loved it. Discusing the Deadpool 2 teaser with a mate he claims the scrolling wall of text at the end is a plot summary of " the old man and the sea"
Which is a book that parallels the storyline of Logan.
So Deadpool is trying to ruin the end of Logan lol.

Just saw the movie solid 9/10 for me. Just echoing most of the comments. I actually went in to the movie with relatively high expectations honestly waiting to be disappointed and it delivered. The girl they cast for X-23 was perfect and I wasn't sure how Hollywood magic would make her badass, but wow...was she badass. I could have definitely seen this duo in other future movies.

I am not sure who is what in that comparison. Is Xavier the Old man and Logan the marlin, with bad guys being the sharks and the X-23 being the fishermen? Logan the old man, X-23 the marlin, Xavier the fishermen and bad guys still the sharks? Maybe that makes more sense. I was wondering why that was at the end of the DP2 teaser.

However, Shane is definitely a better story parallel

Absolutely fantastic movie, incredibly emotional in a few spots especially the back half. There were loud audience reactions throughout the movie during most of the action sequences, and it was obvious that everyone around me in the theater was emotional during the ending (yep I got some waterworks myself). The main 3 characters were perfect, Jackman and Stewart have never been better in these roles, but I would say the standout performance to me was X-23 Laura. Without getting spoilery, I did not expect that much ability and range from such a young actor. As mentioned above somewhere, this was the Wolverine movie that I have always wanted.
If I had to make a single nitpick, I feel it could have been a few minutes shorter, specifically in the last third
while Logan is recuperating from the first fight with X-24. He seemed to wake up, say a few things, and fall back unconscious just 1 or 2 times too many and I think there could have been some consolidation there
Would recommend to anyone with any interest in the X-men universe but this movie goes so far past that mattering.

I like that there's "Logan" showing on the shitty theater in the background of the phone booth.

The only bad part about this movie is that X-Men/Wolverine have to basically be done at this point. Between the time fuckery of Future Past and Jackedman being too damn old to keep up the Wolverine thing much longer, what else can they make? They've finally made something to rival what Marvel is up to (and surpass plenty of it), but they do at the very tail end of all their actors window to still play their characters, with what stories left to tell?

Mark my words, the next X-Men movie will be House of M with the Fassbender cast of young X-Men.
And Logan clearly sets up a form of New Mutants.
Plus we have Deadpool now.

ok saw this film, solid 7/10.
Definitely hits all the action beats, but I feel they wasted all the dramatic lulls to build up the prof X / Logan relationship so it hits you in the feels when he dies, but Logan's transition to giving a shit about the girl happens off screen or something.

Also they mistimed the comedic queues. Not enough tension built up via drama to need the laughs, they just through them in there at random times and it took away from what could of been effective build up.

...so much better with 1-2 scenes of actual arc and character building so his last stand mattered to him.

Agreed about the relationship with Laura. The "dad" shit seemed far left field and rushed.

They could have improved the tension aspect by introducing the evil scientist much earlier in the film, so you're not sitting lost and having your mind wander the first 2/3 of the film, and could actually focus on what was going on. Also if they'd removed the entire farm characters

Whatever can be said about specific details, the movie made me feel something other than the thrill of adventure, or shock of explody things. They humanized the fuck out of this type of movie.

Am I the only one who doesn't find the Deadpool shit funny? Most of it is very cringe to me. Something about it being too forced and try hard.

They need to scrap the Fassbender McAvoy cast and just start fresh with the XMen after this. Ditch the pedo faggot Singer, recast Wolverine and everyone else and start clean.

I really enjoyed the first Deadpool movie and think it did a fantastic job of translating the comics to the screen, but yeah, this Deadpool spot didn't do much for me at all.

Honestly, I don't think they should touch the Wolverine character at all after this and I'm sure they don't plan to. This movie is the equivalent of retiring right after winning the Stanley Cup for the first time at age 40. Now if they wanted to move forward with X-23 taking on the role like I believe they have in the comics, I'd be for a that I think.

Eh, the Wolverine character is an absolute gold mine for the. If this is really end for Jackman, which I hope it is because this is the note to leave on, then I don't see how they don't do a new version with somebody younger.

I hate the deadpool character and movie for this exact same reason.

"look how funny we are!!
arent we funny??
please laugh."

might as well just put a laugh track into it and be done.
