Server transfers are one of the terrible modern age things that have ruined the importance of social interaction in MMO's.

I'm not talking Server Transfers.

I'm talking a lobby system where you log in then choose where you wish to play. Like a game browser. Everyone can access any server/gamemode.

Server transfers are very destructive since it still limits social interaction, you need to leave some friends to be with others, you are still limiting who you can interact with. It also means there are no consequences on the server you left, and no history on the server you join. But if it's free-flow, maybe you can get banned from a server for being a dick, and you can always play with your friends no matter what.

Groups that form instantly disband instantly.

I understand you, but you can't expect people to care about things you give through instant access.

I'd offer to make a board funded mmo, but I don't think we could ever agree on the design.

I think most* here would be happy with a EQ circa 2020. Same shit just new engine, new characters, new world to explore and conquer but same old EQ gameplay, maybe modernized a bit.

I don't know why that concept is so damn hard for developers to understand.

It's more of a question of $$$ , is it worth it too have a dev group sit down and redo a MMO from the late 90's(with so much spaghetti code I bet), or is it cheaper to have them sit down and build out a new MMO.

Any kind of rebuild for EQ would have to be a what I like to call "Zero Code restart", it would take them years too try and port everything into newer engines, it is just not worth the cost too try and do it...(I'm still curios if Daybreak is even breaking even though, with the skeleton crew they have)

Why would they need to port anything? Start fresh. Modern engines have most of this shit already built in, plug and play features and world building that they wish they had circa 1997.

Because you vastly overestimate the market for a 20 year old grind design. I mean fuck, even the grind happy Korean market is getting sick of it. Eureka in FFXIV is basically EQ1/FFXI style and tons of people hate that shit.

You guys do not get it. You are already in the MMO. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. I admit it is disorienting, though. What are the raid objectives? What are the guild rules? What race am I? What class am I? Who is keeping track of loot? And is there really no one here who can give my dearest friend a rez?

Me, I figure one can never go wrong maxing one's alcohol tolerance. Seems every game world includes it.

The Instagram raid drops got nerfed. After Plane of Tumblr had all the epic porn removed, Citadel of Instagram shadow banned the “suggestive” drops that weren’t overpowered at all, claiming that they didn’t want to risk hurting casual noobs.

I'd play FFXIV except for one thing... I'm not in to the asian themed fantasy realm of games. I prefer the DnD western style fantasy realm kind of games. Give me FFXIV with a western theme based on good old Dungeons and Dragons, and I might play it.

I agree. I never liked any of that pikachuu or whatever the fuck bullshit. Give me good ole warriors, mages, wizzards, dragons, skellies, and other tolkienesque monsters. Plus what made EQ stand out was the hand crafted loot too, plus the boss system with placeholders, rare spawns, etc..which none of these modern games capitalize on. Oh and give me back my camps, oh how I miss my camps. All these new games whether asian or western Its the same old loot by excel sheet and boring quest hub to quest hub leveling treadmill.

I would also love to see a shooter mmorpg, sort of like Destiny, but done right. Imagine a shooter system like Destiny has in a world and RPG elemenets like EQ had, a proper loot system and itemization plus rpg class system. (obviously it would have to be set in a different time and place). That shit would be bonkers.

Even with the shitshow that Destiny went through with both games being dog shit and then fixed, its still a hugely successful game(s) that made hundreds of millions of dollars. and with its popularity I dont know why anyone else never tried to make a proper fpsmmorpg.

FFXIV is mostly western fantasy settings and classes. You didn’t really see Asian themed zones until Stormblood, because you basically travel to their version of Japan/Mongolia.

If you legit want to try it out, I have a pc starter edition code still.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll pass for now. I don't want to waste your code, and end up not continuing to play it.

What I really want from a new MMO is a game that goes hard on making an immersive virtual world, as opposed to a clumsy single-player story attached to an online lobby, or a grindfest that exists just to make your numbers level up into bigger numbers. It was the fact that EQ felt so much like a world to me back in the day that caused it to first really grab me (granted, a lot of that was just me being a kid playing his first truly open-ended game, but still).

Basically, give me a fantasy MMO that can immerse me in being a wizard or warrior or whatever to the same degree that Red Dead Redemption 2 (the single player) could immerse me in being an outlaw cowboy--while getting that immersion to stick in a shared multiplayer environment--and you've pretty much got my ideal MMO.
