Wasn't Reid the QB coach in GB under Holmgren during Favre's run? Or at least for some of it?

Putin said "I can kill someone with this," took Kraft's Super Bowl ring

Posted by Michael David Smith on June 15, 2013, 7:04 AM EDT

AP
In 2005, Patriots owner Robert Kraft joined several other American business leaders at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Putin left with Kraft's Super Bowl ring. After questions arose about what happened, Kraft released a statement saying he had given Putin the ring as a present to show his respect for the people of Russia.

Now Kraft says that's not exactly how it happened.

Kraft now says Putin took the ring without his permission, and that the George W. Bush White House urged him not to make an issue of the theft because of concerns about the incident damaging U.S.-Russian relations.

"I took out the ring and showed it to [Putin], and he put it on and he goes, 'I can kill someone with this ring,'" Kraft said at a speech this week, according to the New York Post. "I put my hand out and he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys got around him and walked out."

Kraft said he intended to do whatever he could to get the ring back from Putin, until the White House urged him to let it go.

"I really didn't [want to]. I had an emotional tie to the ring, it has my name on it," Kraft said. "I don't want to see it on eBay. There was a pause on the other end of the line, and the voice repeated, 'It would really be in the best interest if you meant to give the ring as a present.'"

And so Kraft gave up his Super Bowl ring. We hope Putin didn't actually kill someone with it.

Well I had high hopes for the season but now I don't know what to think. I don't think being a part of Hard Knocks is ever a smart move for a team.

Well no one would ever confuse the Bengals for a smart team, so really this is just par for the course

Weren't the Bengals the team in just 2009, and there was no 2011 entry?

Are there really only three teams now crazy/dumb enough to sign up for it? (Cue jokes about Mike Brown being desperate to come up with more money now that there's a much higher salary floor here.)

It's hard to gauge. This Bengals team is very different from the one that was in the '09 Hard Knocks. Mike Brown, unbelievably, has started to let Marvin run the team. Maybe he's been in the organization long enough that he's been "fostered" into the Brown family. This Hard Knocks could very well be a story of redemption. The Bengals have been making smart moves and it's hard to deny that with them making playoffs two years in a row with a new QB. The culture is different and they have a team that expects playoffs as opposed to hoping for them. I'm torn about this.

In Marvin We Trust.

Maybe.

Putin probably earned that Super Bowl ring by helping the Patriots spy on other teams.

A lot of this is because of first hard knocks. An inside look at how fucked up everything was at an organizational level got some big gears moving. I don't know how anyone could not be excited at hard knocks filming your team. From the small sample size we have it doesn't appear affect the season too much and the access to a team you live and breath is amazing.

I just want to watch the games. I could give fuckall about what happens in the locker room or workouts. I'm probably mostly alone in this regard. There's enough drama in real life, I don't need to see someone else's.

Patrick Willis is starting to rival Peyton manning in the commercial department. Happy for him though, dude is starting to get a ton of endorsements and air-time.

Not many other players deserve it more. Even if you hate the Niners its almost impossible to not like Pat Willis, on and off the field.

That might only be a Bay area thing? I've only seen him in the one for...insurance or something? Or maybe it's a credit card? But it's where the guy didn't wish for a day with Patrick Willis or something.
