I have a feeling the sports world is gonna shit itself when we see the Aaron Rodgers contract next week or whenever. Probably gonna be like 6 years/ $150 mil.

Haha I didn't even think about how Romo is making twice as much as Tom Brady. That makes this even more laughable.
The number at the end doesn't mean anything. Romo is getting $55m guaranteed, Brady's newest restructuring gives him ~$30mil something for 2? years. I doubt Romo plays until he's 38-39 to finish that contract.

That's very true, but thinking Romo is worth 20million a year is plain silly.
Also, he's getting $18m/year, not 20.

The extension goes into effect after the 2013 season, when Romo earns $11.5 million, essentially giving him a seven-year contract worth $119.5 million. It's basically 17M a year.

When 20 million is a silliy amount I got news for ya, 2 or 3 million less isn't taking it out of that same neighborhood.

But it's not that silly for a top 12 QB these days.

Your QB is about to get an extension that will be about the same per year. Matt Ryan will get as much or more, Rodgers will set the new bar in guaranteed money.

Im certainly hoping that Packers balk at paying $25M+ to Rodgers, they are a cheap organization.

I hope the Packers give Rodgers the whole fucking bank of Wisconsin. I need more mediocrity in my NFC.

Dalton will be asking for 20+ mil/year next year with the way these contracts have been going.

Big ticket QB's getting this big money is going to start a paradoxical shift if you will, where they will command and get so much money each team with one of the big ticket guys will be forced to choose whether they wanted one of those guys to begin with.

Joe Flacco is the perfect example. Ravens front office kind of gambled with his future and contract situation, which backfired since Flacco somehow won a Super Bowl in a contract year causing the Ravens to give him the big money and demolish the rest of their roster. So teams in similar situations are going to have to look long and hard as to whether they want an Andrew Luck or a Russell Wilson, in the sense that the Lucks of the world are going to start commanding and getting 20 mill+ a year and guys like Wilson will still produce yet have incredible value due to his low draft position and rookie contract.

Long story short, if these record breaking contracts continue into next year, its actually going to have an ugly side effect which turns the league into stars and scrubs ala the NBA 3 years ago.

I was kind of hoping he'd just let the year play out and go elsewhere. Again, not because I don't think he doesn't deserve a new contract, but so the fanbase can lose him and go back to the years between him and Aikman so they shut the fuck up about how bad of a player he is. This is the most lackluster off season in Cowboys history so I don't have much hope for this next year.

Which is basically what the owners/NBA wanted. With the new CBA taxes finally coming into effect nexr year, the stars will have to start spreading out (ala Harden to Houston) because teams can't pay more than 2 guys max money and field a competitive team.

Which increases parity.

The NFL already has parity just because with the size of the teams and how the best teams in each division have to play each other the following year. You'll probably end up paying franchise QBs 25% of your salary cap and all the other positions getting less than they do now. No longer will you be able to give WRs, passrushers, or CBs huge QB-like contracts.

The Patriots really set the model several years ago, and teams are starting to follow it more and more. Basically they identify, pay, and build around a few core players, and use draft picks and cheap free agents to fill in the holes. There was an MIT sports summit a few weeks ago where some of the front office guys were talking, basically saying the new model is to sign the superstars and then get $1mil. players and draft picks everywhere else. It's part of the reason why the 49ers let Goldson walk without even attempting to negotiate, yet they extended Bowman last year; because Goldson isn't a core player, and they knew another team would pay him more than his actual value, whereas Bowman is an elite player who's integral to the defense.

"There is a lot of discussion right now about the shrinking of the middle class in football," Demoff said. "Elite players continue to get paid at high levels and there are no more $3-4 million players. A lot of that is because teams are getting better at scouting college players and the draft has become efficient. If you have $8 million to spend in free agency, you might be better off spending $7 million on one guy and $1 million on the other than buying two players at $4 million," Demoff said.

Also don't forget, while the cap has been stagnate for a few years now, pretty much everyone is expecting a jump into at least the $130mil range starting next season. These deals that seem like they are cap-killers now won't look like that a year or two down the road. Probably a great idea to wrap up stars now paying them big relative to the current cap rather than waiting and having to pay them big relative to the expanded cap.

I'm with moonytayle--I wouldn't even say Dallas hates Romo, Texas hates Romo. I wish he would've played out his contract and gave Jones the "fuck you." If he would be in a different media market he'd be a fucking saint. Please draft some o-line now.
