I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I don't see the problem with Romo's contract. Anyone that thinks the signing immediately dooms the Cowboys to mediocrity or worse the next handful of seasons is an idiot. 8 of the last 13 Super Bowls have been won by QBs that weren't considered elite at the time (Dilfer, Brady's first, Brad Johnson, Big Ben twice, Eli Twice, and Flacco). I can safely say that Romo is at least a competent a QB as all of those players and significantly better than some of them. Like those players listed, Romo is good enough to be a winner he just isn't good enough to put a team on his back and like those other QBs mentioned he needs to have the right team around him. The contract itself also isn't going to restrict the Cowboys from potentially signing talent as some people seem to think. I'm not saying the Cowboys are going to go out and win a super bowl or be perennial playoff contenders, just that if they don't succeed it isn't because of this one event.
Also, the people who are criticizing the contract in the form of "lol he got paid XXX amount of dollars for Y playoff wins", like Donovan McFlab is a fucking hypocrite and can shut the fuck up. These are the exact same people who were defending the Bears in the Urlacher situation claiming (correctly) that you pay a player for what he is worthnow, not for what he has done in the past. There isn't a QB available out there that would come close to being an upgrade to Romo, signing him gives them the best chance to succeed.
