I'm pretty sure signing bonus does count against the cap. It is just prorated for up to the first 5 years of a contract. I believe the cap figures you posted does include the signing bonus.

If you want a good break down of the contract then read the link, the guy is well known on the Cowboys site for his salary cap IQ.

Yeah, if his interpretation is correct (and it looks solid), then it's $16 mil a year for a mid-level QB, with friendly cap numbers. (The risk being that Jerry just signed over a $25 million check to Romo, who could be hit by a bus tomorrow.)

Honestly, like the Sanchez deal, I may not like it, but it makes sense: He is the undisputed starter this year, and even if his performance dropped dramatically and they brought in a new guy, would still be on the roster next year. So basically (in both cases) you are wagering that he will be on the roster two more seasons from now in exchange for salary cap room today. You could argue if that was wise with Sanchez, but with Romo it seems to be a lock, and thus the deal is solid for the organization.

Where does this put the cowboys this year for drafting people, last I heard they had 51k.

Romo deal will free up another ~$5mil from this year's cap, and they still might get a long term deal done with Spencer.

Kolb to Buffalo, poor Buffalo.
Do they have an Oline? If so he might actually have a legitimate chance to prove he is an ok QB, Brady would look bad behind that Cardinals line. Theres not much hope but theres enough to hope it might be possible to have a decent QB in Kolb.

Honestly always thought Kolb got shit on more than he really deserves. He's reasonably accurate which is better than many QBs in the league. Not saying he's Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady but he probably is actually better than Fitzpatrick and a number of other starters in the league. Arizona is a hot mess at Oline.

He was shitty in Philly and shitty in Arizona. Nothing he has done in any season suggests he's anything but a bottom half of the league QB. Check out his stats when he was the Philadelphia qb; they're still garbage, which is why Arizona signing him for such a big deal was always a head scratcher.

Arizona went from a promising team with a lot of young talent (when Boldin was still there, and Adrian Wilson wasnt a dinosaur) whos defense was on the rise all whilst having a franchise type guy in Fitzgerald.

Then they lost Warner to retirement, blew it with Kolb (doubly bad when you consider draft picks lost) and now they are one of the worse teams in the league.

Which means that all is right with the world. I believe that global warming was caused by the year that the Cardinals went to the superbowl.

Matt Flynn likely to the Raiders? Gotta admit I want to see this guy start somewhere so we know if he just had good play in GB's system or if he's legit. Oakland might not be the best place to rate a QB though.

Tony Romo got more guaranteed money than Joe Flacco.
Apparently only 40 million is guaranteed and 15 of that is due to all the previous restructuring, apparently there is some language in the contract that would allow them to ditch Romo after 2014. The contract isn't as bad as the media has been trying to make it out to be.

Raiders giving up a pick and a conditional pick next year, doesn't seem to be reported what round. Apparently some scuttle with Oakland and Flynn over the money he's set to get though. But seriously, why the fuck are they giving up even more picks for an even less proven commodity? Shouldn't they be nuking the team and rebuilding? Aren't they in cap hell and letting people go over it?

I mean obviously they aren't known for being smart in the front office lately, but when the hell do the shitty decisions stop? Davis is dead, is his family still fucking shit up?

They never are, and it really is a similar situation in the sense that the teams are pretty much fucked if they DON'T make a big deal signing with those guys. You either sign them and say how confident you are in them or you show the fanbase that you are rebuilding. Latter may be the smarter move, but no one ever wants to make it.

We're still all gonna shit on these signings every single time they aren't one of the about 3 QB's everyone accepts as the best.

I'm excited to see what a flashy back up does every single time. Morbidly curious I'd say...
