That doesn't change the fact that they had a bottom 3 o-line and they were using a ton of rookies

Only one playoff team over the past two decades boasted more starts by a rookie draft class than the 2012 Indianapolis Colts.
and

Summary: There were some bright spots. Both centers they used got some push in the run game, while former first-round pick Castonzo took a step forward this year. However, there's a lot of room for improvement and they chiefly need to stop allowing so much pressure. The 245 combined sacks, hits and hurries they gave up were 32 more than any other team.
His stats didn't look glamorous on paper, but it's amazing Luck and the Colts did as well as they did. And again, he's only to get better as he and the team develop.

Not sure if you are talking to ambiturner or me, but good QB play can be the difference between a 4-12 team and a playoff team. Everyone knew Curtis Painter fucking sucked balls, surely you remember all the jokes that used to be made about the only reason he was still in the league was due to the fact that he was Mannings back up and Manning up until the injury that forced him out a year just didn't get hurt.

I'm not saying Luck is bad at all. Just pointing out that Romo was a better passer last year. There's also no guarantee that he will be better this year. Hell, if he put up Romo's worst year stat wise he would throw for 600 more yards, 5 more tds, 10% higher completion percentage and only 1 more int. That would be seen as a solid improvement.

There's also no way they had a worse O line than Dallas

I've said it a lot and I'll say it again. Romo is a good QB. But even Good QBs need a good team around them in order to win games on a consistent basis. Unfortunately, with the O-line in the state it was last year, Romo was forced to do too much too often. Statistically that was going to bite them in the ass sooner or later, and it just happened to be the most important game of the year.

It will be interesting to see how things shake out this year.

This exact discussion happens every few weeks during the season. The first one just started a little earlier this year.

Sounds like Jeremy Maclin's knee exploded today.

Sucks for him, since it was the final year of his rookie contract. Eagles wideouts not looking so hot all the sudden. Basically just Jackson and Avant now with a bunch of people behind them I've never heard of. Good luck, Chip Kelly!

Dennis Pitta has a dislocated hip. I'm only posting because holy fuck does that sound painful.

edit: I guess it's worse than originally thought, went from "could miss the opener" to "surgery now, out for the year" real fast.

Sucks for Baltimore.

Maclin and Pitta both in contract years to boot. Next time some over-emotional fan flips out about a guy holding out...here is the risk the players are always talking about.

This thread needs more of Gabbert, my favorite nfl superstar:

Working in 11-on-11 drills, Gabbert fumbled four times and threw an interception. Three of the fumbles and the pick occurred on the first eight plays when Gabbert was leading the first-team offense against the starting defense.

After beginning the session with a handoff to running back Maurice Jones-Drew, Gabbert fumbled the snap exchange from center Brad Meester. The ball rolled toward the defense, but the play was blown dead before the ball could be recovered.

On the next play, Gabbert held the ball in the pocket looking for a receiver, then ran into guard Will Rackley and lost control of it. Again, the play was blown dead before the ball was recovered.

Gabbert then fumbled the next snap, but quickly grabbed the ball and completed a short pass to receiver Cecil Shorts.

Gabbert suffered another fumble later in the practice, but was able to corral the ball and attempt a pass.
?They can?t happen and that falls on me,? Gabbert said. ?We have good centers and good snaps. You just work on it. They?re going to happen, but you want to minimize them. It?s an unforced error that we can?t afford to have happen.?

Gabbert?s second series ended when he slightly underthrew Shorts on the left sideline. Cornerback Alan Ball showed good anticipation, turning around and leaping up to snag the ball.

Unofficially, Gabbert was 18 of 30 on the day and none of his completions brought the crowd to cheers.

Reports are he has a fracture on top of it.

Pitta was hyped to being an important part of the offense and it remains to be seen if Ed Dickson suddenly can stop dropping passes. I expect Ozzie to take a look around and bring in a cheap vet like Shiancoe or maybe Clark. Not sure Current roster options Bajema and Furstenburg...not really replacement factors in the offense.
