could someone explain the blackout thing for me?
According to wikipedia, "If the blacked-out nationally televised game is on a cable television network such as ESPN or the NFL Network, all cable and satellite television providers in the affected markets, including the primary markets of both teams, must black out the cable network's signal to customers in affected markets during the game"

So ESPN couldn't have aired the game in San Diego, even on ESPN, if it was locally blacked out. Thus ESPN was stuck with either eating the cost of however many tickets or irate customers in the San Diego area.

Black outs are stupid, almost all stadiums are paid for by the public (or the vast majority of the cost) with very few exceptions and by blacking out the local area that paid for that fucking stadium is a giant fuck you to them.

I understand why they do it, since they're trying to attract women viewers, but I read something a while ago about how breast cancer is by far the most pimped cancer. If there's someone out there who's not aware of it, they're just oblivious to everything.

Really, the NFL should be doing prostate cancer awareness. It's more common than breast cancer and the majority of the viewers, you know, actually have prostates. Plus, it doesn't get nearly the money that breast cancer does.

The worst is the self-congratulating commercials and shit the NFL plays before/during/after games to show how great the NFL is for doing all of this. It's just too in your face for me, and way too long. Have the grand pink explosion for one week, not 4. Especially given the ethical issues surrounding the Susan G. Komen organization that have come to light in the last year or so. There are legitimate questions that need to be answered before the NFL and everyone else continues on this blind love of pink ribbons and shit.

Thus why if you really want to help any cause, its better to just straight give them money/items, never go through a some "Charity". I know there's info out there that shows which charities give the most to their cause, can't remember where I read it.
Yeah, its pretty well known that any charity is more operating expenses than actual donations to research or whatever goal they state. Of course the bigger the organization the bigger raw number that little chunk of the pie turns into but still. Kind of like LiveStrong in that regard.

Yeah, that shit's out of hand now. It was one thing when it was just like "oh, must be October they are doing that pink crap again" but now you are beat over the head with these trumped up feel good stories every commercial break.

This isn't so much an NFL thing as it is the whole Komen "pink" people. As much as I support healthy boobies in any way possible, as an actual charity they aren't very good unfortunately.
Yeah, I have heard a lot of backlash against the Susan G Komen charities. They have branded themselves very well but there are a lot of people calling into question not only their donation percentages, but also calling out where the money actually goes (apparently not a lot gets into actual researchers hands). Tough to decipher whether they are actually kind of terrible or it is just a lot of backlash because they have gotten so big.

I just got to see one quick replay of the Suh hit. It looked like shoulder contact to me. Definitely 'borderline'. PFL.

If you read the article, I'm not sure how any of it was Cleveland's fault with the (goofy) practice squad rules the league has.

The real question is why the Packers still had him on their practice roster.
Knowing that was the rule, why wouldn't they attempt to pursue a different WR? It seems like a terrible idea to sign someone from a practice squad of another team if you can't give them a physical beforehand. There has to be a FA or WR4/5 somewhere that they could have considered.

Seems like a lot of people were bitching about the NFL's aggressive breast cancer campaign, saying that they are not giving enough mention to mental health considering the concussion problem. I say who cares. The NFL wants to bring awareness to womens breasts, even if they are only putting a small % of proceeds to the actual research. Roger Goodell cares about tits!

Anyway, this new look 49ers team is extremely odd. Kaepernick has been kind of terrible over this stretch, but they are winning games. Im starting to wonder if Kaepernick has just played tough teams? Indi, Seattle, Houston and Cardinals all have pretty good defenses. He hasnt had a soft touch defense to show his wares against, so heres hoping he gets his numbers back up. He has been a disaster in fantasy and is making my MVP predicition look like fucking trash. It also doesnt help that Peyton is doing gobs of pure HGH, and is having the best season of any QB ever.
