Maybe they do now. Initially the networks provided the cameras. When I was a kid, MNF had the most cameras of any game that week.
Yeah that is a fair point. I bet if we went and Googled it we could get an answer...

I am feeling exceptionally lazy today.

My favorite way to google things is post my best guess and see if I'm right.

I thought they were gonna do some testing last year but then the covid happened so they dropped it from getting voted on. I expect them to at least do some preseason with it this year. I think Hoss is talking about something from further back and not the same as last years proposal.

Poyer, Hyde & White.

The best Secondary Trio in football IMO. Would be insane if they get a solid C2 upgrade this year over Levi Wallace. Bills seem to want C2 to be a value position. With the other 3 guys it makes sense, however c2 always gets the focus with C1 is so damn good.

They could what the pats did the year they had Revis. Put cb1 on an island with their wr2. And then your cb2 doubles their wr1 with a safety every snap.

Do all games have the same number of cameras now? In the past that was the argument against expanding the use of video. Sure, each game would be fair because both teams have the same number of cameras available. But over the course of the year high profile teams would have those extra cameras more often and gain an edge.

Even that argument doesn't make sense unless there is some reason to believe the high profile team would get more calls in their favor from having the extra cameras, which is silly. It's just as likely the opposing team would get the calls.

The high profile team would likely have fewer injuries because of fewer dirty plays. Over the course of the year that would make a big difference. Also, stats would be effected, but no one cared a whole lot about that back then. Remember we're talking about using replay to call penalties here, not just verify field position. It's like the difference between having 7 officials (the normal compliment) and having 14.

That's quite a stretch. How many players get injured from dirty play each year? And how many dirty plays are so calculated that they'll be able to control their emotions because more refs are looking? Very, very few for both.

To be honest I think the biggest detriment to having so many more officials would be that more penalties would probably be called unless standards were relaxed more. Holding already happens on almost every play and if you have that many more people looking it'll be much easier to see even the less egregious forms.

Yeah I don't think extra cameras are that much of benefit for a single team but are an overall benefit. I'd just like better officials. Why can't the NFL, a multi-billion dollar enterprise, get better trained officials whose sole responsibility is getting the calls right and in a consistent manner? Today there are zero repercussions for being a shitty official whose calls directly affect the end result of a game. How many jobs have zero responsibility attached to them?

It would be optics not any actual unfairness since both teams playing with more cameras would be under the same scrutiny. That being said it would be better if every stadium had the same camera setup.

Between all of the networks that show games, I don't see much, if any difference between them when it comes to having replays available immediately after the play. It is a staple of the broadcast for the announcers to be able to discuss it which happens on the regular outside of technical difficulties.

They could start by making them full time jobs.

Well this is a bummer but for that price I can see why they did it. Hopefully they can resign him at a cheaper price. The defense completely changed once they acquired him.

The average salary for an NFL referee is $205k. They probably like having the off season where they don't have to work and that's plenty of cash to live on year round. Hell I don't feel sorry for anyone that makes that kind of money and only works 6 months out of the year. If I had that deal I would even be okay with thousands of drunken retards in sports bars around the country calling me an idiot on Sunday.
