I'm sure you could say that about a lot of markets, but compare somewhere like Florida where you have no state income tax, to California who is raping you every which way they can, and there is definitely motivation to not want to be in Cali.

It's different when you look at property tax!

I doubt that is this genius's motivation.

Yeah I saw that as well. If the 49ers really have an offer on the table for the #10 overall pick, and Deebo really doesn't want to be there anymore, that seems like a hard thing to pass up on. Really sucks to see him go though.

I honestly feel like Aiyuk can be a number 1 receiver. He showed flashes last season but Garoppolo's noodle arm cant push the ball downfield, greatly diminishing Aiyuk's potential. Aiyuk ran 17 routes in the NFC Championship game, he was open on 12 of them while Garoppolo only targeted him 8 times, resulting in only 4 catches. But he averaged 18 yards per catch and hauled in a 31 yarder, the guy was open the whole game but Jimmy just couldnt get him the ball.

Maybe with Lance he will actually develop into the player the 49ers believe he can be. He is working out with Lance in the offseason as well.

If the 49ers turn Deebo into the number 10 overall pick that is a huge win IMO. That would balance out the Lance trade capital loss and position the 49ers to be flush with cash once Garoppolo is gone. They can sign Bosa and go out and get a blue chip player at 10 in this years draft. If they pull this off and Lance turns out to be competent they can act like this was their plan all along. All they have to do is make the right pick at 10 and grab another RB in the later rounds to compliment Mitchell. They already shored up special teams, if they land a top corner at 10 then they would be in position to compete again.

edit: Honestly, I dont see why this Deebo situation isnt viewed as potential good business for teams. The whole point of landing a talented player in the draft is getting value, so if that means paying rookie contract and then getting out from under that player getting a massive extension by trading them before they can demand one then so be it. If you hit on the compensation pick then its just rinse and repeat.

Because you absolutely never know when you will hit on that pick, or when you will find another Deebo. If you find a great player, you do what you can to hang onto them, unless they go toxic ala Le'Veon Bell.

Based on Deebos social media I’m guessing he’s being pretty toxic already. Hard to stay grounded when at every level since age 6 you’ve been the best around.

That is also a fair point. I think there may be a serious ego issue at play here. And if that is the case, the 49ers should take #10, whatever else they can pry from the Jets, and move on.

I mean the Rams have shown you can absolutely trade away your 1st round picks for proven players though, and go on and win. I maintain that the 49ers would very likely fuck up that #10 pick.

They could also turn that pick and theirs around to pick up a star as well though. (hey maybe that can find a QB!)

There's also a limit to how many stars you can have on a team too. 9ers are already paying max contracts to George Kittle, Arik Armstead, Fred Warner, Trent Williams, Kyle Juszczyk (granted top fullback money still isn't that much), and soon enough Nick Bosa. You could definitely look at it as a similar situation to the Buckner trade. Of course if Kinlaw doesn't come back healthy and play well this year then you could definitely say that one was a failure, but it did take $20M off the salary cap and the d-line has remained solid.

It is true that the Rams have kept their defiance of the conventional salary cap wisdom going a lot longer than I thought was possible. I guess we'll find out if there's still going to be a reckoning for it at some point.

If they continue getting studs like Nick Scott in the third round it will take much longer to catch up than it should.

He was a 7th rounder.

I think the Rams have until AD is gone.

I'd imagine McVay would follow right after.

Give me another 3-4 years of them together and ride out Stafford's career and I will accept a dark decade. Worth it.
