DF Kaine is working on a new project so DF content is going to slow. Probably will never be properly finished.

That sucks Darkness Falls was probably the funnest of the modded versions. Undead Legacy and Rebirth were also super good ones, although both kind of veered into nutty really fast. UL with the crazy crafting, and Rebirth with how ridiculous the class system was. Both fun if you want to grind your face off though.

Now to see if I can convince any of my friends to give this another go. We've played it maybe every 3 or 4 years and get to the mid-20's days before they burn out.

Edit: Wow, just saw that this isn't actually the release, but rather the experimental build of 1.0. Even in releasing a game they can't help but expand the testing phase.

Haha yeah, release is in a month, but you can effectively play it now if you are part of the PC master race.

Is it now impossible to find a grill or a cooking pot from loot and you have to build them at a workbench? that is a major kick in the dick to early game survivability making your campfire damn near useless until then.

Cooking pots were pretty common for me in houses, but think I bought my first grill on a recent playthrough and found one way later.

You can find them in the world - kitchens and abandoned camp sites usually had the best spawn rates of grills or cooking pots. Uncommon spawns in my experience

Don't worry. Right after you craft or buy one, you will loot one.

Yeah I found em, just feel much rarer then when I last played, which was basically a life age of middle earth ago.

I spent most of the first 3-4 days either on the verge of starvation/dehydration or shitting my guts out from dysentery. Is this a zombie survival game or oregon trail?

Buried treasures missions will usually nab you some food.

Yeah I didn't realize quite how mission-centric the game is and I built near Diersville which isnt particularly close to Rekt or Jenna on foot, but I should have a bicycle soon.

Gonna have to research starter horde bases because my build did not work at all for the first horde and I barely squeaked through the night.

If you're having trouble early game horde night, you can always find a pre-existing structure and use that as a temp horde night base. That way you don't care if they destroy everything and you can lock down any points of access the zombies can use to get to you.

Like on day 7 I was in the attic of a house where the only access point was a ladder. To keep it a little challenging, I didn't destroy the ladder and let them crawl up it and I made a gauntlet of wood spike traps to slow them down as I fired arrows/guns at the zombies.

i just built it wrong, apparently zombies dont see blocks with wood spikes on top as a viable path upwards so instead of going to the entry of the walkway they started attacking the support sections and i had to clear spike traps so i could get back to the entrance and bait them over.

meh. Guess I'm still holding on to a grudge over the change they made where zombies get bonus damage to blocks if they don't have a viable path to you because it invalidated tons of base designs only to replace them with shit that looks even more retarded as it exploits the stupidity of the AI. Over five years and I still can't let it go lol.

If you're getting the shits a lot due to eating shit sandwiches, make the tea from the yellow flowers. Also make tea from red flowers to make your food go farther.

Custom horde bases can be tricky. You really have to experiment and know how they're going to react to very specific geometry or it can be an abysmal failure. Plus they're constantly adjusting the AI from what streamers are doing so it is an arms race. Our most consistent horde base so far has been a grain silo sitting next to a barn in central Navezgane. Build a little walk way to the silo and most fall. It gets tricky when the suicide bombers start wrecking shit so you have to have multiple paths for them.

A very high priority early game should be to get a few water collectors going. They're not too bad from a resource standpoint. You can buy mods that make it work faster, hold more water, and filter it.

I love this game with all of its cheese. I just wish it were a little better optimized and had more guns and vehicles. I guess that's what mods are for once they catch up with 1.0.

This design will work just fine for the first few hordes. Wood cubes with a few key bits upgraded to cobble will work fine for day 7 on default settings. I've used this basic design up to day 100 on a hardcore playthrough (expanded with two side wings that let you run electric fences across the beam and a deep pit below the beam so they don't bash the supports as much when they fall off).

Half the fun in the game is in seeing how different base designs work. Some optimize for killing speed, others for slowing the zombies down and letting you nearly AFK horde night (since there's only ever a certain number of zombies alive, the faster you kill them the faster they respawn - if you make them run around for a long time you won't have kill nearly as many)

Don't think I've ever gotten dysentery, get a dew collector up asap and cook the water you get from it. You can buy a cooking pot from a trader if you can't find or make one (few patches ago they made it so trader always has one for sale). You can also pop a vitamin pill for the disease resist and then drink a ton of water from a lake/culvert, they're not uncommon to find even early on.

Yeah I had built something similar to that but apparently if you just use blocks without stairs and put spikes on the blocks, the zombies consider it impassable. Maybe if I'd put a ladder on each block they'd climb up into the spikes instead of refusing to jump.

Yea they will generally not walk directly into traps if they are just trying to path to you, but they will if knocked into them or if they're in rage mode trying to break shit. Can put some spikes on the ground below the beam or around the base supports, that will work. I don't personally use the spikes all that much, lot of upkeep for not much damage. Better to use your skill points on a weapon skill.

With the design above, I usually put some ladders on the side of the stairs, you want some redundancy so they don't lose the way to get up if a block breaks. If they can't find a path to you they will start smashing random shit and collapse your base eventually.

Is there any interest in a small 7 Days FoH server?
