See I think he sucked. He had no range of emotion. He's generally an decent actor but he just seemed so blah in all the films. And I said that back then too.
Kirsten has always been "meh" to me in all her films. She was especially terrible in these films.
These new films just seemed to get that sarcasm Spider-Man has back. They lack the nerdiness though. But anyone expecting an EXACT duplication of the comics is an idiot so...

Personally I agree with Tarrant, but it is also one of those "at the time" things that can't be replicated now. Just like movies I enjoyed in the 80s were awesome, but not so awesome when I re-watch them now. At the time, Toby and the first two Spider-Man movies (and X-Men) helped put superhero movies on the map. Would ASM1 have done the same thing? Hard to say, because it is like trying to argue LeBron is better than Jordan (he's not) when they didn't compete at the same time or against the same talent, but I would vote that ASM1 wouldn't have had as profound an impact at that time. I could be wrong, or someone might have a different opinion, but it should at least be considered.
And I still think this movie will be subpar, so when everyone says it is awesome you can come back and quote this line if you like.

Yeah, that movie has been bettered or at minimum equalled absolutely ages ago, I would add all of the Nolan Batman movies and Man of Steel to that list as well.

Why does everyone see Parker as nerdy? Mary Jane is a supermodel in the comics and he's ALWAYS getting hit on by other really good looking girls. He's got like a genius IQ but he doesn't sit around playing D&D all day stroking his neckbeard, he's meant to be a reasonably good looking guy that's very smart.
Reed Richards is a nerd, Hank Pym is a nerd, Spider-Man is a wise cracking smart ass.

But my point is Andrew Garfield is a much better choice for Spider-Man than Tobey was, I was horrified when I saw they'd picked him for the part and while the movies were okay he was too much of a dweeb to play the role well.
I did really really like Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn though, he was probably my favourite casting choice in those movies.

I finally got around to watching the first Amazing Spiderman last night and I really enjoyed it. It was fun and Jean-Ralphio didn't bother me at all. I expected him to be emo and annoying, but he played the part well.
Now I'm even more excited for the second one!

The origin story has been done twice and you still don't get it? He was a geeky science nerd that was bitten by a spider that gave him super powers. The problem is, even though he became ultra agile and super strong, he still has the awkward brain of a science nerd. In the early comics his life is kind of a mess of high school then college outcast drama. The wisecracking is the response that every nerd would love to give a bully: a steady stream of shit talking while physically humiliating the big clumsy oaf. Tobey personified this a hell of a lot more than the current snarky little cunt is.
