That version of the god, anyways. On a side note, I don't know if the book ever answered this or not, but I've always wondered something.

A god can have different avatars/aspects (ie, Jesus in this...they more or less confirmed there are a whole bunch of different Jesus, each representing the specific version each demographic envisions for said god). So Mexican Jesus dies in the show, which basically kills that avatar/aspect. However, the demographic that avatar/aspect represented still exists and STILL believes in Jesus. Does that mean another Mexican Jesus would eventually manifest itself, but perhaps changed based on the current views/faiths of the demographic?

It seems like they outlined the only thing that can actually kill a god for good is being forgotten forever.

I don't think Mexican Jesus is actually dead regardless. If you'll recall, there's a story about some people trying to kill Jesus before, and he came back three days later. This is one of the ways Mexican Jesus gains followers. The ones who lived and witnessed what happened will become more fervent believers and spread word of what happened, giving him even more. This relates to what Vulcan said about Wednesday sacrificing himself to himself. Essentially, Mexican Jesus sacrificed himself for power for himself. If I recall, there's a joke in the book about about all the times Jesus sacrifices himself.

No, that scene was all new for the TV, same as Vulkan.

The book establishes that you can kill a god, but unless you do it in such a way that his believers lose faith, he never stays dead for long, just like in the myths, the gods regularly cheated death, so somebody is going to figure out a way he may have survived. There are still multiple versions of the same god, IIRC the book ends with Shadow talking to another incarnation of one of the main characters and it is established that you can't blame one for the actions of the other. Which is what makes the new gods so powerful, since they have a single version with no borders.

Yeah, basically the gods are tied directly in to what their believers believe. That's why there can be multiple versions of the gods since there are often different interpretations of a diety. So, if a god was killed and came back, he'd come back the same unless his believers started believing something else. Belief is their lifeforce. The less people that believe, the less powerful they become, until they fade away completely like Nunyunnini (the mammoth god) did last episode.

That's why it's possible Vulcan could return depending on how Wednesday cursed the forge. If that causes the bullets to not fire correctly, people will lose faith in his brand, causing trouble for the company, potentially ruining his town. I don't think that would outright kill him (since people still know who Vulcan is), but he'd likely return in a much less powerful form.

He was also the kid from the docks in The Wire S2 and Pornstache from orange is the New Black

When I first saw him in The Wire, which I saw several years after the fact, I was surprised he had not been in more things. Glad to see people taking notice of the guy.

The problem with really grand character actors is that they can often be overlooked. The classic example being Daniel Day Lewis because you really have no sense at all of who that guy is... unlike, say, Will Smith who in every movie is just playing Will Smith as a <blank>.

Will Smith as a <blank>

Too much of that kinda casting :(

Tom Hardy comes to mind when thinking of actors today who really get into an actual character.

The Revenant
Mad Max
The Drop
Bronson

I find heavy handed political shit lazy. The fag Muslim joke was subtle and well done but stuff like the fucking Nazi gun town was just silly. It still some how works for me cause truth is this entire fucking show is heavy handed and over the top.

This show is in a weird place for me. I find the overall story pretty boring and slow as fuck but I love the concept and the universe in which these characters live. It also helps to have a fantastic cast.

Not super happy with the addition this week. I can understand wanting to 'expand' the universe as the story in the book is not incredibly long (and the best parts of it are the side characters), but bringing super heavy-handed political crap into it is going to sour my taste for it quickly. Hoping it was a one-off. I know there is (and has been) plenty of political stuff in Gaiman's work if you look for it, but it is woven into the story, rather than being a slap in the face.

Won't stop watching yet, but it is more for the actors.

rofl, you fuckers are more sensitive then the otherkin snowflakes you make fun of. Soon as 'white guys' aren't getting their proverbial dick sucked about how awesome they are, it's like someone pissed in your cheerios.
The gun town was over the top because it was a fucking cult worshiping firearms and it wasn't even THAT over the top compared to reality. It just combined the aspects of two actual groups into one. I live in Arkansas and that kind of shit absolutely happens. It was a slightly exaggerated version of something that actually exists in our country. I'm also guessing half of you complaining didn't 'get' that the border crossing and the town were the SAME PEOPLE. They were all worshiping Vulcan (firearms) indirectly.

Some minority or SJW gets upset about a racial stereotype on TV and you make fun of them for being a pussy. Happens to you, and you get just as pissed. Or, the majority of the cast is still white and you act like they have 'over diversified' the show (counting those appearing in 2 or more episodes so far: Wednesday, Czernobog, Sweeney, Dead Wife, Technical Boy, Media, and Mr. World vs Shadow, Bilquis and Salim). I'm not saying they need to change the cast, or add in more minorities or something, just pointing out that if this show feels to you like it's 'too diverse' when it's still majority white, then your point of view is skewed.

The term fragility gets tossed around too much, but that was an actual legit example was the point. It means that even when something is in your favor, if it's less then you had before, you over-react. Which is exactly what Lord Lightning Rule did. None of the examples he mentioned stood out as being over the top or even offensive. I never felt like the show was hating on 'white' people whatsoever. They were making fun of the hardcore racist gun freaks, yes, but that's not all white people. So, unless you ARE a member of the nazis or KKK, you shouldn't have identified with those groups. Same way showing a black dude in a gang shouldn't offend the average black person.

If those examples he pointed out felt overly political to you, you are looking for a reason to be pissed off. I mean, one gay scene and the whole show is 'pandering to the fags', ok yea, right.. I think the lady doth protest too much.

The ifrit scene was in the book, so I am fine with it. The gun scene was not, so it came across as political pandering/virtue signaling.

I hope this series goes the full length and that they spin off Anansi Boys. It was a much more solidly written book.

I don't post in or read that cesspool of pussy super libs and circle jerking reddit alt retards.

I like to avoid it, but sure enough now fargo neocons have to whine like the blue hair whales they claim to hate if there's any portrayal of guns or conservatives or Christians as less than reverent. Oh and if one of them Muslims or blacks or women are good at anything outside of stereotypes? Well, you better believe a big butthurt storm will be a comin'!

I think Jesus was only referenced in the book as the different aspects, I don't think that scene was there.

Well, Gods having multiple versions of themselves, with some of them dying and some of them still living on, is a semi-relevant plot-point later in the book. Depending on how much they wanna expand on it, they probably use Jesus in the TV series to establish this basic idea.

I love this show, but lets get fucking real here.

The show creators have stated they are making it political. Almost every review of the show has mentioned its overt politics. If you cant see it, you are the one with the problem.

You definitely do read it since you have opinions and insults formed already.

It's odd to see you labeling liberal politics posters as pussies. Just last year you admitted that it was wearing you down to see movie-goers reject feminist remakes from Hollywood.

I haven't seen the latest episode, aside from that there has not been some persistent political message in the show. It's stayed more or less true to the book aside from expanded backstory on old girl in the one episode.

The post in question where whatshisname freaked out over the supposed SJW shit in the show reads like a child wrote it. "teh gays and a black man was hanged!" Over the top and silly reaction to relatively banal content.

That said, I don't necessarily think the show shouldn't be political. It's about America, America is a great place and has some wonderful history, and it has some dark as fuck history as well and some of that history is only a couple of decades old. These kinds of stories tend to focus on the dark due to their very nature, but especially when we're talking about gods and beliefs and how they got here. To get butthurt because a slave ship was depicted... well how else the fuck would the African god have gotten over here? And that was a badass scene, Orlando Jones fucking KILLED it. To be so up your own ass that you can't even enjoy the show, it's sad. SAD!

I didn't say it shouldn't be political.

I'm saying it obviously fucking is. That yes, a few people in this thread were over the top complaining about it, but saying it wasn't is fucking moronic.

Maybe I'm just not paying enough attention or something, I don't see it. The most recent episode sounds like it is, don't really know, but prior to that I didn't pick up on anything like that.
