I'm just glad the games industry has stepped into the 21st century from a Revenue Management perspective.

I can afford more expensive seats/service on a plane, and the airline recognizes this and provides me with that option. Car companies provide tons of upgrade options to base models. I can McBiggie size my fries, or Keg size my cocktail. Why should I be forced to pay the same price as Timmy the 12 year old when I'm a grown up and can afford all the extra bells and whistles?

Lemme get this straight. You where willing to spend $45 dollars and possibly more for a game concept scribbled on a fucking napkin in one of the most unprofessional Kickstarters OF ALL TIME, yet people willing to pay $150 for AN ACTUAL FUCKING GAME are taking it up the ass?

Yes I was. And yes you are. Both foolish IMO. Again, I foolishly spend thousands a year on games. Does not mean that I agree with the current trend the games are heading in...

Do you agree on the current state of games and how they are monetizing them? That is the core of the argument im trying to make here, not If I find someone elses, or mine for that matter, game budgets and how they choose to spend them.

People who play alpha probably has a head up compared to beta/open game players. Pay for the privilege of being the first to conquer, and conquer again after learning the fastest route.

I don't give a shit. I will just buy second best pack...not interested in alpha...

I spend money where I see value for it. I don't buy consoles anymore because the $60 games don't really offer me interesting gaming experiences. However spending a few hundred dollars in a year on League of Legends brought me a great amount of satisfaction.

Spending $150 on AA (which I personally haven't yet) is either way to expensive for the market or it's not. There are other packages out there for AA, $150 is just the most expensive one that gives you alpha access.

Some people value Alpha Access. Otherwise the game is entirely free for you to play with once it's released. It's also an actual game that has been in live development for 2 years. I don't know what your raging against. Trion is not nickle and diming you. The only thing you need is a sub to this game to fully experience it (farms, land etc I think), otherwise it's free to play.

They are, however, in business to make money and there seems to be a market for $150 packages that include alpha access, trion bucks, 3 months sub and other shit.

Yet you spent $45 to support a dream of a promise on Brad. Good for you buddy. You really have no leg to stand on.

Agreed, I've come to the conclusion that some of the most flagrant of people on this forum are also the most casual. It's a bummer really, I'd love to take them seriously, for entertainment's sake.
I see your bait but not gonna bother with a snark battle with you anymore.

I like it for selfish reasons. I have the money to spend and I never get into alphas or betas unless through others. Now I can just buy my way in and be done with it. I haven't payed the $150 yet because I'm not sure I want to go back to tab targeting. That is just something that bothers me and has nothing to do with the pricing of the package. Everything else in the game is exactly what I am looking for.

As a business they would be stupid not to try and make the game as profitable as possible. Why give out all your alpha and beta invites when people are willing to pay up front for them. In this case it is especially safe because you can actually try the Russian version to try what you are actually going to be purchasing. They are also coming in at a good time. Teso is shitting the bed, many are meh on Wildstar and many WoW players play WoW cause there is fuck else worth playing.

F2p also has the advantage of keeping the world alive with people. This is of course means the game has to be worth playing to begin with. If it is then you will always have new people trying it because of word of mouth because of no box price.

I don't consider you flagrant, so this was not bait, nor snark. Interesting that you associated yourself with the negative side of that. I opened the statement in agreement with you. Babe.

If you stole lumber from them, then why did they not just attack you and take what you stole back?
They would have to flag purple to do that, which is a criminal offense. Stealing doesn't flag you purple.

Either that or it could've been in a non pvp area (sub 30)

Their fault for planting in the open world instead of their scarecrow farms.

Additionally, there was some random nerd at my shared land where we actively protect our space, he uprooted one of our tree's and was quickly staved off.

Sounds sexy on paper, but what you need to be careful of is that baseline kiddie price ( what we all used to pay ) = less entertainment that it used to be as in, less content. Now, we pay for the bells and whistles which, really used to be included in the kiddie price. So we pay more for what ?

( obviously not all games are like this. )

One Trion Example
When I joined RIFT for example, how was i going to know that my 15 bucks + box price there was getting me 1/4 the content of WoW at release yet at the same price.

I was thinking about writing something about combat and tab targeting, but I'll use this reply as a segue to it.

At first glance, I was negative on ArcheAge, or at the very best, leery. It had two things I absolutely hate about MMOs these days: Tab Target/Hotbar Combat and Treadmill Quest leveling content. Personally, I could do away with level as a system of character progression, but that's a discussion for another day. When I first jumped in in one of the Korean betas 1-2 years ago, I really couldn't get into it. It was fine enough, but I like English. I tried several other times since then and it wouldn't grab me. I finally got into NA Alpha and my leeriness persisted.

But because Kedwyn, Pyksel and others were really hyping it up I gave it some honest effort. I've really changed my tune on the combat. Combat, in this game are about combos and really feeling the "oomf" behind them. The tempo of combat is really far away from hitting 111112223454311111 for normal NPCs in combat. Early on it's pretty boring with having only a few abilities, but it begins to open up at 10 and again at 15 and 20. You really have abilities that I would consider "base attacks" that set up other abilities to do more damage or increase their effects. Play around in some of the builders and you'll get the idea. You can really create a flow chart of effective combos.

The big thing here is that the cooldowns are longish - 15-60 seconds. From outside looking in, that appears to be a pain in the ass and begins to remind you of EQ2. Well, since mobs die pretty fast, you don't need a combo every single NPC. Combos actually feel good when you pull them off (See a lot of League of Legends champ design theory). The contrast to this is Wildstar. You spam your builder and you drop a spender where you toss in some other abilities along the way. Wildstar's combat is very much throw shit out there and do damage. In Archeage, it's closer to fighting games where you want to be positioned or time your combos properly and when you do, it's a huge pay off.

The only sore part is that it's tab target and there really is no aiming.

In any case, I really have to take back the negative review of the combat. It's really satisfying to set up your class selecting to pull off some cool effects. I'm sure it'll be more interesting with gear and weapon choices down the road.

As far as questing is concerned, it's still shitty. To level up, you're primarily going to be doing quests all the way to cap. Yes you can level off crafting/farming/trading etc, but the core chunk of xp is questing. It's a shame really because the tired old form of questing to level is really hiding some really amazing systems in this game. Why can't the game focus more on crafting, gathering, being a pirate, killing bad guys without having to guide you through 50 levels with treadmill quests?

That's my main complaint in any case. I would love to see GW2's event/heart system in this game in place of all the bullshit quests. Leave quests in for the instructional stuff like farms and things. The only saving grace is that you can turn in quests early or over-worked and you're not stuck with shitty spawns.

Of course the questing portion of the game is very fast, easy, and painless (if not dull). I really hate game design that stick in old tropes just because everyone does it, especially when you have games where you say "the game begins for real when you...". In this game there are a lot of fun things you can do before level cap, and at least that is different.

If only the sandbox became more prevalent a few hours into the game, instead of 10-20 that it takes to hit 30 or whatever.

I should have screen shotted my infamy sky rocketing after I stole 30 of their lumber and all 5 reported me.
I saw your feed yesterday when you were climbing that mountain and ran across someone's saplings. I think it really highlights the wild west mentality that nothing is truly safe.

Yeah I believe under 30 you can't be attacked regardless, even if you're wanted and you activate the pk mode. Or well, in protected zones, which this one is(it's like lvl 15-20). You can be reported for stealing, which adds to your infamy, and the first time you die by another player's hand you'll be sent to trial, at which point you either plead guilty and get a slightly reduced sentence, or plead innocent and then 5 randomly selected jury members(people who have done the quest to be selected) decide that you're guilty(unless you could bribe them or some shit I guess) and you get full sentence. Sentence time is based on your infamy score. When sentenced you're sent to jail, in which you can do a few stuff, or escape. However regardless of wether you stay there or escape, your sentence debuff stays on and prevents you from pretty much all combat activities as well as some other stuff(not sure if you can go steal again for example, but might be able to).

System is pretty deep, but doesn't have much repercussions for stealing at low level. Which is why you have to be a fucking retard to try to grow shit outside your farm before lvl 30 zones. The odds of it not getting stolen are abyssmal, even if you "hide" it.

Just because I like to defend RIFT, but RIFT had more content at release than Vanilla WOW (unless you want to count different leveling paths for newbie races).
