The 3D for this looked amazing in the theater, will easily overshadow how good the3D was for the original. Dont really care much for the story or whatever, as far as I'm concerned he does these movies to push movie making technologies. The behind the scenes for this one should be insanity, I hear the tech improvements for filming underwater alone jumped massively cause of him which will benefit everyone.

The real question is will this actually release in December or will it have a bunch more delays? I'm certainly super stoked to see it. I'm not sure if my local theater even does 3D though, it's pretty small.

3d turned out to be a flop. Avatar was certainly impressive 3d in theater but that was it, everything else was either a gimmick or low quality so it vanished street a few years.

100% True, if every movie had 3D like Avatar did however it would be the standard. The tech from what I understand is more to do with underwater cameras, rigs and motion capture.

3D is a gimmick, has always been a gimmick, it makes a comeback every 20 years. it was big for a while in the late 50s early 60s then it went out of fashion til the 80s where it came back again. then came with Avatard, morons were buying 3D TVs and paying hundreds of dollars for glasses........ to watch TV with. people realise and then forget that 3D doesnt make the movie better. if the movie sucks, its still gonna suck in 3D.

3D was killed by cash grabs. Part of the reason Avatar had impressive 3D visuals was because the film was made from the ground up using specialized technology and film techniques to emphasize it.

Then everyone wanted on the 3D bandwagon because money, so they either did partial 3D (aka the old gimmicks where you have a couple scenes of "OMG SO 3D!!!!" and then it is forgotten about the rest of the movie), or they did the shitty post-production 3D where they just tried to use a computer to simulate 3D on a film not filmed using any 3D specific technology.

Trailer is super meh but I thought the same about the trailer for Avatar. I didn't even want to watch the first one until everyone I knew said it was the best looking movie they've ever seen.

Over a decade for the tech and know how of avatar to filter out into the world yet still no 3d.

I can't say that trailer was very intriguing. I def don't care about Sully and his "family". the navi at all really. the world building didn't spark much interest.
They are actually working together now for some reason? or, was it just more humans using navi suits?

I loved this movie when it came out. But after 15 years I dont really care much anymore and the trailer so far didnt do anything for me. But of course I will see it. At least visually it looks pretty cool.

An abundance of Visual FX makes it hard to impress these days, but somehow the world that was shown in that trailer does stand out.

Avatar, the story, is very forgettable. It's always been memorable to me for the world that was crafted.

I assume the same will be said for #2-#5

The only thing that stood out to me is one scene where it looks like they are rebuilding some me of the human base and you see Avatars decked out in Earth gear. But you also see humans in the wild using bows and shit.

Based on this, I suspect the people who stayed at the end of the first movie eventually abandoned the Earth base or at least there was a split (humans can’t survive in the atmosphere without tech, so filtration masks aside, they would need a secured shelter with atmosphere to eat/sleep/etc .

Then the returning Earth forces rebuild the base. The real life time delay kind of works to their advantage from a storytelling perspective - the trip to Pandora one way took like what, 4-5 years? So return trip, gear up, resend another expedition would take over a decade combined. Them using Avatars still makes sense because it enhances their operations in the field

Here is a good video comparing the cgi between the movies and highlighting the CGI improvements

TLDW: less gloss, much more detail and everything is zoomed out with less fog to give the world a much bigger feel. ITs actually really impressive how much its improved.
