The whole reducing population by 50% is dumb as fuck to begin with, that society would full stop as well. We were running on much less than that just 50 years ago or so. Thanos is an idiot. But we just accept it, and of course losing half of your bros would obviously suck. Meh. It's a movie. At least everything else was badass. More or less.

Urgent? 3.5+ billion people is still too many.
The carrying capacity of Earth is closer to 14 billion. Movie-Thanos was an idiot. Comic book Thanos in contrast was just doing something dumb to get laid, which is more understandable.

It doesn’t make sense to anyone who hadn’t had the “plan” explained to them as well either.

“Wtf, half of the world disappeared? Why though? Guess we need to start repopulating.”

What entire world is going to collectively go “We’ve been using too many resources and now we have this guilt free way to cutting back our usage? Awesome!”

That's only for the food/water/necessity "what goes in" aspect and does not even consider the what "we put out" side of the equation. Because it goes something like "this is what the Earth can take if our civilization is full of irresponsible bastards, this is if we are all responsible, and further down here is where we are at now" and no one wants to admit that.

Thanos didnt tell the entire world what he was doing, Only the Avengers and Wakandans really know what happened. And why would anyone believe them or follow their lead once they try to explain everything? No one knows who the hell wakandans are and in Civil War we are told people/governments hate the Avengers.

Thats one of the dumbest things about Thanos' plan. Logical outcome is civilizations would devote enormous resources and reproduce like crazy to combat another snap. But that would be for nothing because Thanos fucked off to some random world and became a farmer before being decapitated.

I think that the idea is that once 50% are gone, after the grief passes the remaining population realise for themselves how much better things are and start to take population control seriously.

It's a statement and a teaching tool.

Yeah that's not how humans work. They'd fuck their way right back to where they were within 20 years which isn't even a blip on the radar on a cosmic time scale.

That doesnt make any sense though. If you randomly discipline someone for seemingly bad behavior which the person has no idea is bad and you dont give any remote explanation, it will never correct the supposedly bad behavior.

Its like spanking your child or taking away their tablet a week after they did something bad and not telling them why you did it.

Just one point....half the population of earth didnt disappear, half the population of the UNIVERSE did. And as he said it was random and dispassionate. So possibly 90% or the earths population could have disappeared or 1%...dont think it ever says in the movies the percent of snappies there were on earth

It's a silly plot point that will never make sense. It requires too much logic jumping for the audience to create in order for it to have any kind of merit. Maybe when thanos dusted half the population, he also told the remaining half why. Maybe Thanos' plan only makes sense to him because he's crazy after experiencing so much loss. Maybe this, maybe that.

The movies needed a reason for thanos to dust people and for whatever reason they didn't use his comic reasoning. The reason WHY was never really important, I don't think, or at least not important to the people at marvel so all we got was some goofy nonsensical throwaway reason.

I thought scarjo said he halved all living things. The dispassionate part was that he didn't select half of this family, half of that school. Just half. So half of the humans regardless of where they lived, half of the kree, half of the ewoks, etc

I was thinking more like...all life was bunched up, mixed up and then halved

Sure, Humans also beat Thanos.

That's not to say every race would react that way.

Except nothing's "better" now. Things getting bad for everyone is something that would happen in the future and nobody believed him anyways, so there's really no lesson to be learned

It doesn't need to better, Thanos just needs to believe that it will be better.

No, Black Widow specifically states that the countries of the world are completing a census, and it is pretty much 50%.

The thing I wondered about most is, apparently even 5 years later, they just left shit where it was? Sure, shit was depressing, but there's still half the world that needs to work, make money, have entertainment, etc. Baseball stadiums just abandoned with cars all over the lot? Somebody would have decided to move that shit, and get together some more teams, etc. Ant Man goes home in San Francisco and walks past all these mountains of garbage that someone...wait, that's what SF looks like right now. Never mind, that part was factually accurate!

Also, even though 50% of the population vanished, 99.9% ended up vanishing when not going to the mass graves of remembrance. So yeah, society came to a screeching halt and nothing has happened since, except people ageing.
