No they don't. Look at how many faggots in this thread are justifying playing this with, "Oh, I'll just play it because of Game pass...teehee".

Yeah I mean I suppose folks can at least get something out of Gamepass before they let it fall off their radar.

All politics aside and just from a design standpoint here - we literally have an RPG being launched in 2025 that doesn't have NPC pathing in towns, no NPC behavior, no story decision trees, a lifeless world, medicore/non-existent story based on who you ask, people going into dungeons and just saying "Thank God I have a lever to push" without any interactable objects - the list goes on and on.

The regression this game is showing in basic core design is absolutely stunning when one thinks about it. Even Daggerfall had more to it then this and that was from almost 30 years ago.

But that's the thing. It's no different than people watching shit on Netflix and terrible movies/shows getting the greenlight for more seasons/movies because they're giving them views, under the delusion of, "Golly gee, I'm paying for a subscription anyways and already looking at the dick, I might as well suck it too!".

Gamers deserve the hell they've created by not voting with their wallets often enough. They're getting better, but you still have a fuckload of Gen Xers and Millennials getting into the point of their lives where they have more money than sense.

I bought a new car on money the gaming industry has saved me, and that's with predatory micro transactions and all that. I really have to thank them for how much they've given me back.

Probably shouldn't start a review by destroying your credibility.
LMAO, I basically threw that in there as a way of saying "I am willing to keep an open mind and put up with a lot of shit" but I have my limits.
Definitely, that's why I wanted to preface that the comparisons were going to be inevitable no matter what.

Really, it's the complete dissociation between the world and the player that gets me. Even the NPCs are like silly looking set dressing and the whole thing is an amusement park. All it needs is It's A Small World playing in the background.

With how massive the budgets are on games these days on top of now being under Microsoft's AAA publishing, alongside what Tasty The Treat Tasty The Treat noted regarding the long gone returns in throwing more pixels at us, the stagnancy in those little details really strike at the lack of soul in a supposed role playing game.

If there is going to be static environments for example, they need to make up for it elsewhere (like Baldur's Gate 3's player choice). However, even seemingly basic ideas like guards staring at you blankly unless scripted to intervene really strip away at the "point" of being a role playing game trying to immerse you in its world.

It's practically a given that the Obsidian of today is like most other recognizable studios that are riding on past reputation more than containing a small fraction of the old guard who made them famous in the first place, so I can't exactly say that I'm surprised to see this trajectory from them, either.

I'm long past giving the benefit of the doubt with these kinds of people.

As Utnayan Utnayan noted, this is ripped out of the Marxists playbook.
Yup. i think a lot of gamers/enthusiasts are simply still sucked into the gaming scene and, well, this is basically what it's become. It's why I am basically making statements on how I'm over it. The latest games have simply never had so little to offer over older games before. The days of me wondering what sort of advancements the latest games can make is long gone. Now I am simply impressed when a new game isn't significantly worse than games I had over a decade ago. That's where we are now.
But that's the thing. I will no longer buy into the "you can't criticize it until you play it" mentality. Heck I haven't for a long time but now I'm at the point were I honestly take offense to that notion. It's like no, I am not going to support this shit in any capacity because that would only make me a part of the problem. Heck the people asking you to just ignore all the politics and bias would definitely not be willing to do the same if these games were full of right wing ideology as opposed to far left ideology. I can hear them and see the gaming site articles already complaining about how politics has infiltrated an entertainment hobby and trying to brainwash people into siding with extremist views. So fuck anyone who still tries to defend or promote this kind of shit, I'll hold em to their own standards they will only express when it's the other side doing what they want everyone to be complacent with.

I'm curious why they haven't done much advertising for this, no twitch campaign is also very strange. No drops, no sponsorships, nothing.
am even curious with this USAiD unraveling around the world do these co that make gay games get backdoor funding from somewhere

only 1 hour in and its just tutorials out the ass but i'm having a decent time. I switched to third person mode which is nice, I didn't know the game would support it. So far it seems very trad-CRPG but we'll see.

For what its worth I bounced hard off The Outer Worlds (their previous game) after just 4-5 hours and Starfield after just 2-3 hours so I'm not super optimistic but it seems pretty basic so far. Looking forward to seeing if someone lectures me on the patriarchy or gender identity.

This has to be one of the most obvious lies anyone could possibly tell on this subforum.
Naw. I was so mad at how terrible that game was after being so excited for so long.

it’s one reason I’m trying to temper my excitement for Light No Fire.

remember, the exposed elements of a fungus are its sexual organs. the actual fungus is underground, or in the tree, whatever. while the exposed parts, are sexual organs, which grow out and spew out spores for a few weeks.

fo76 instead of focusing on the immersiveness of the settlement building... went pvp. and "environmental storytelling". or, Idk, maybe it was dumb luck in the first place, since they seemingly went in the totally wrong direction ever since..

When FO76 launched, it was pretty much environmental story telling with very few NPCs (the only NPCs you met were basically robots and MODUS in the Enclave bunker). They also did think PVP would be a big thing.

Then most people just PVE'd and wanted a traditional Fallout narrative, so they more or less got rid of all the PVP elements and now it has normal Fallout quests/narratives with human/ghoul NPCs/etc.

I feel this. So very this. I will not touch anything with microtransactions ever again. Cut ties with my last gacha game a couple months ago, and my wallet is growing nicely. If I cab get my condo upgrades done this year, I will be able to get my IRA/401k stuff going even harder.

New gameplay runs out after 15 or so hours and repetition starts to kick in.

I am going to spoil the story for myself and then decide if I want to play any more. Supposedly there was a patch today making the upgrade system easier and less burdensome; game now looks at levels of upgrades with the common/fine/extraordinary/whatever; before if your enemies had one level better weapons/armor than you, the skulls started stacking up and made the encounter supremely harder; now its supposed to look at 4 levels within each rank, so if you have maxxed out +3 Common, 1st level/Base Fine won't crush you.

I, however, put up with a lot of jank in Starfield, only to get the end of the game and realized the midwits had written a dead-end narrative for the Starfield universe. If this story is as poor/not great as people are making it seem, I am not going to waste time playing it.
