ff14, a game which is basically a story experience for most players. outsourced their latin/texan voices to a california/american voic studio (because their folks were all british accented folks) and that studio put in a troon who has no vocal range, can't emulate emotion and gave wooden voice reads. that character was made the focus of the story, and you could not escape a moment of interaction with interesting story elements without this regard piping up with some stupid shit poorly voiced.

it was shocking because they had other good voice actors in the story they just had to give out that dei crown to their pet mutant.

that was a major componant of people finding the story (the principle thing they were there for) to be really obnoxious because the character was rubbed in their faces for a 20+ hour experience. unlike the rest of the game which wasn't outsourced to woke elements, and was more enjoyable.

a storytelling expeience can be ruined by an unlikable character. this isn't new. its how all literature, movies, and story games work. main character being ass ruins the experience.

If you're trying to say that a game play experience can't be dstroyed by fleeting woke elements here and there. sure that's what happened with BG3. you can fucking kill the gays that flirt with you. you can't do that in dragon age veilgard. you get your nose rubbed in their writers idological hang-ups constantly and you cannot murder that character, abandon them. or get away from those story elements.

Ruining a storyline isn't the same as ruining an entire "game". I didn't find BG3s storyline that compelling, but I still had a blast with the game. I couldn't tell you a fucking thing about Elden Ring's "lore", other than some dude was a Lord then he wasn't, people got mad, and then you burned down a big tree. And it's my favorite game of all-time. Good gameplay and a truly great "game" will trump ALL of that bullshit and cover for poor storytelling.

Woke really had nothing to do with FF14s storyline being shit. It was shit because it was shit. It was trope after trope, in typical weeb fashion. Again..bad is bad. "Woke" is just a cope and way for nerds to justify to themselves why their favorite companies churn out dog shit title after dog shit title.

i would say it's woke in that some characters offer no hints of their sexual proclivities, but all of them are bisexual to suit the persuit of pushing an agenda that gays are common and that everyone is accepting of the gay. i said hello to a man and the next night he was dancing like a fruit to touch my junk.

its been a long time since i played, so i ccan't really cite examples, but most of the 'woke' elements were individual characters peppered around that you could choose to ignore. thus you didn't have your face rubbed in it dragon age style, and thus didn't ruin the game.

the volume at which piss ruins your glass of water is purely in the ratio. BG3 didn't have a lethal dose of piss. dragon age seems to have. dustborn was all piss. some people belive one drop of piss is too much and they won't drink a glass of water that is labeled to have been overseen by piss consultants (sweet baby inc).

So FF14 was ruined entirely by #woke? The gameplay being mid had nothing to do with it? Tab target, hotkey based MMOs had nothing to do with it? The game was fucking incredible outside of them fucking up the story?

A game is good regardless of story.

Take skyrim, which this game is being compared to. That game would have been shit if it wasn't elevated by the entertaining and good story lines. The gameplay itself was rather buggy and shallow, but people wanted to play it, explore it and experience those stories. Many found lots of fun despite its pretty notable gameplay flaws. How much people enjoy is a nexus of allowing the person to be the character and effect the world, telling a good story, and having good game play in a vast majority of RPG-like games.

Sure some games can stand on just their gameplay... But thinking of RPGs, I can't think of a single one that checks that box.

You're correct that the overwhelming majority of woke games are garbage even without the agenda, but it definitely gets shoehorned into great games and they're worse for it.

Not that it was woke, but I didn't like Elden Ring due, in large part, to the shit way they tried to present a story (or lore), in that (I guess) you had to read notes or some shit scattered around to understand most of it. I absolutely hate when games slap that shit in games and call it a day, instead of telling stories though quests.

It also didn't help that playing a mage was mostly just hitting the same spell over and over again while kitting shit (otherwise you run out of mana and it takes longer), which eventually got incredibly tedious and dull.
