The real reason Larian was left alone was because there was almost ZERO expectation put on them for BG3. They were contracted out to make a game that was like their past ones because WOTC/Hasbro had no internal team that worked on the previous BG games and needed someone else to eek out a dollar. After its critical acclaim and reception Hasbro/WOTC now has *literally* a billion reasons to do what they usually do....meddle and try to make it more of what they want instead of just leaving Larian alone to print them money. This is a complete fuckup by Hasbro/WOTC and I don't blame Larian a single bit.

I'm just an outside observer but this doesn't match my memory. There was a lot of high expectations for them in BG3 even before the early access. Now whether WOTC had high expectations I don't know.

This game has been highly anticipated for 20 years from a group of fans who grew up on BG/BG2. It was expected a few year after NWN because of the success of that game...and it still took them a decade to announce BG3. There were high expectations for the game because of Larian's past work, but even if Hasbro/WOTC expected it to sell better than BG2 (2.5 million copies including DLCs) or NWN (2.2 million copies), there was no way they were expecting to double either of those let alone 4x it.

I enjoyed Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2 before BG3.

At this point Larian is probably the only company right now that I would support without question. They did great games, and Sven is saying all the right things...and it doesn't feel like PR, but the guy genuinely just love making games.

Fromsoft and Larian for me. Although I didn't buy the mech game. Just not my genre. I may get it on sale one day.

Sven saying, "We are very hard to work with." Is such a powerful and oddly positive statement. It's something that only a few game developer leads can say and be respected because they've shown great judgement.

It more comes off to me that they wanted to make BG3 all along, since they started making games in a dead genre.

Not doing DLC or BG4 means that WotC were either difficult to work with or financially too demanding.
You must have missed what WotC did before they made the decision. They “updated” the OGL that said go fuck yourselves…and give us money.

I didn't miss that, that's why I said "difficult to work with" and "too demanding".

So. I want to play this now. Is PS5 ok or is this an “upgrade your fucking computer from 2016 dumbass” moment? Feel free to literally say that.

I had no issues playing with with my GTX970. My processor is newer though (Ryzen 5 5600x).

It's not too intense until you get to act 3 but then there is so much going on in Baldurs Gate proper that an older build is going to struggle.

Thought about starting a new playthrough. Most times I play a martial class and the only caster I've played has been a war cleric. Was thinking sorcerer, any ideas/tips?

Was thinking at one time it would be nice if they did an expansion similar to Ice Wind Dale, just a dungeon crawl. Guess that's off the table.
On my second playthrough currently. Created a dwarf sorcerer focused on cold. Lots of fun casting create water then dropping ice storm on a group. There are numerous early items that buff cold damage and effects.

I play on a PS5 and it's great. The only knock is that the dial control gets a little cumbersome in the late stages of the game, with so many abilities and items.

Can solve for this by focusing on classes that you don't have to use that many skills too.

Act 3 in actual Baldurs Gate is laggy as fuck even on a good PC, haven't seen that far on a ps5 variant but I feel like if a PC gets choppy in the city, a console would too.

They also fired literally everyone Larian worked with on the game, as far as I know.

I began a second play through and I just dealt with Ketheric and entered Act 3.

1. Paladin Oathbreaker - Dark Urge
2. Bard College of Swords - Minthara
3. Monk Open Hand - La'zel
4. Cleric Tempest - Shadowheart

My first playthrough, I was a "good" choice Warlock and the game was pretty difficult. I don't know if my party is more OP this time or if the Evil Party path is just easier.

Murdering all the druids vs having to deal with the entire Goblin camp was super easy. Also, destroying Last Light made the Moonrise encounter substantially easier. I remember breaking into Moonrise in my first playthrough being incredibly hard. There just seemed to be less mob density this time.

I also murdered Nightsong, which I was worried about because she helped a ton with the boss fights, but I think they toned those fights down as well to compensate for not having her.

Evil mode = Easy mode?

I don't think anything changes in stuff like Moonrise density and the boss fights definitely aren't changed at all. You are just having an easier time because you know what you are doing this time around.

Evil playthrough makes some encounters easier and some harder.

Act 2 is harder. You need to take out Last Light losing the Harper vendor, you never see the Tiefling vendor either. Then in Moonrise Tower you have to fight the place without allies (I forsaw this and killed the place bit by bit before Nightsong), you have to fight the Drider with Ketheric and have to fight Ketheric the second time with Isobel on his side.

Act 3 is easier, House of Grief and Temple of Bhaal (as Dark Urge) are solo battles and you can skip all three of the Gortash quests if you want. I assume the end sequence is harder as you'll have less allies, but not done that as evil yet.
