I honestly don't care I just want to see him play a villain.

I'm sure some of you remember how excited I was for Man of Steel. It could have been better, but overall I was pretty happy with it. I've never been a big Batman fan either, but I looked forward to (and for the most part enjoyed) the Bale movies. But this.... Aside from the continuation of Cavill as Superman, which I was fine with even if not everyone else is, it is literally like every single other thing revealed about this movie is calculated to make me hate it. I don't care for Affleck, but I'd have given it a chance all the same. Gadot? Hot, but not what I pictured WW as at all. Still, I'll try it. Now Eisenberg? I despise him much more than Affleck, but ok, maybe it could work. Now, a tattooed skinhead street punk? How many "well, I don't really see it, but I'll try" can they string together before it has no chance of being anything but a monstrous pile of shit?

Are they trying to kill the franchise once and for all so people don't expect them to keep making more? Because that's the only explanation I can think of for the direction this seems to be heading. If everything revealed so far is even remotely true, I will be amazed if this movie ends up being watchable, let alone decent.

I just can't help but feel Snyder is massively trolling everyone.

Or maybe i'm just seriously hoping he is. Ugh.

If it were just leaked plot ideas, I might hope for that too. But you don't announce casting choices just to troll people. I'm pretty sure Affleck, Gadot, and Eisenberg wouldn't agree to be announced as cast members just to see how much people hated the idea so they could pull a fast one and announce the real choices.

I may be one of those guys but so far really don't have any issues with the casting choices. Afflek while not my first choice isn't so bad he's matured as both an actor and director. Other than Bale I can't think of anyone off the top of my head I'd like to see as Batman. As far as Lex, Eisenberg seems like an out of the box choice like Ledgar and I haven't seen any sites running with the tattoed street punk angle so not really putting a lot of weight to that rumor.

Who knows how they are actually going to use Gadot as well, for all we know it could be a cameo as Diana Prince. I enjoyed Man of Steel, I know a lot of folks hate it but that's the way comic book movies usually roll.

You really see Tom Hanks as Lex Luthor?
Easily. So long as the writing isn't total dogshit Tom Hanks will do justice to any role you cast him in. That asshole made me feel some emotion for a fucking volley ball, so I'm confident he could do something as simple/boring as Lex Luthor. Jesse Eisenberg on the other hand I just can't see. Do not want.

I could accept that maybe Ben would of surprised everyone as Batman. Questionable casting call after questionable casting call though is just doomed to failure. Even if there are a few surprise performances. Someone is going to fuck up their role badly and if that role is a big one the movie will suffer for it.

yeah. Im not saying Tom hanks can't go wrong. Right back to the character vs performance statement. Kevin Spacy is an amazing actor. so is Gene Hackman. And well, you know. But even if Tom fails at the characterization, we would have gotten a performance.

I love Tom Hanks as much as anyone, the man is an institution. But I can't see him as Lex any more than I can see Eisenberg. After Ledger I gave up speculating on these casting moves too deeply. I don't have the knowledge that Snyder does about what Eisenberg can and can't do, and I want to think they will do their best.

At the end of the day I'm incredibly dubious about their casting choices... However... After reading his AMA I'm reminded what I thought the first time I realized that Luke Skywalker was the joker. Im not even remotely hopeful for this movie at this point but stranger things have happened

Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor. He did a bad ass job of doing his voice for the cartoons, and he was great as villains in movies.

Yeah animated Lex and live action Lex seem very different.

Comic Lex is basically Kingpin?

Comic Lex is Kingpin. Or president. Or billionaire industrialist. Or Iron Man.

There's a lot of versions of Lex, similar to Caliane's recent post about the various canon versions of Superman.

yeah. Live action Lex has little bearing with comic Lex.
Its CLOSEST to Lex of 40+ years ago, but even then...

Lex at creation was a fairly standard mad scientist. Built giant robots, and other wacky shit to kill superman.
Lex in Superman the movie in 1980, is a landshark/carsalesman/conman. No superscience really. what does he do? has a secret lair. Hacks a missile sortof. But doesn't even do it via super science or anything, just steals the code. superman 2. 1 feat of superscience. rigs a hologram in his jailcell. then escapes via hot air balloon, which tess brought him.. the rest of the movie just plays conman to Zod.
This was pre-crisis.
1985 brought crisis on infinate Earths to DC comics. the universe was rebooted.
Lex is now no longer a random mad scientist. But instead genius scientist/businessman. owner of Lexcorp.
He has been that ever since. With a dash of running for president as well.

But we have NOT had a movie portray Lex like that ever.
