I am asking as a turn based not battletech. I have played plenty of mech games. Never xcom or any other turn based.

the core game is a lot of fun, the learning curve is pretty low if you take 30 mins to watch an experienced player play you'll know enough stuff to roll into the game

the performance issues i reported earlier have mostly been adressed, i changed nothing and the game runs a lot beter, loading times are shorter and the stuttering is gone

i find myself enjoying the game a lot more, however there are still some bugs that annoy me, like being unable to scroll down on the map with the mouse, for some reason up/left/right works fine, and down just doesn't

would 7/10 this atm

I dont know that impressed is the right word, but its served well enough.
I mean it's better than running a light, and almost anything can get most jobs done but not nearlyas effeciently. If you don't tryto melee iirc it can run hot firing all that after 3 rounds while not doing that much stability damage. Thought i recall it hard to max armor and still get full jump jets and maybe a heat sink.

I said fuck it and bought it. It’s only $50 and there isn’t a game out there holding my interest lately.
If you're running nvidia you should get the 397.31 april 25th drivers __AND__ install the K-Lite full codec pack.

The codec pack is way more important.

Redoing the espinoza mission to get her catapult.... somehow ppc headshotted their centurian from behind with just a random shot. Followed by the dragon kinda beat up but also died to a random cockpit destroyed from a punch. The very first commando I usually knocked out as well as the shadowhawk. Lucked out and also knocked out the wolverine this time though only got 2 piece on it.

So like the only mechs I didnt get full salvage on was the panther, and firestarter from the boss lance...... JFC too bad I only get 4 pieces of loot, so took the catapult and finishing another centurion to maybe use as a 2nd lrm boat. No + weapons worth mentioning/looting. The random loot favored me and gave me 2/3 shadowhawk which was enough to finish yet another for sale, and also the shitty +acc/crit medium laser.

Hope I can get luck like that on later assault mech missions.

i'm trying to play with no save scumming (even if I lose people / mechs) but I did do it once to save my gauss, which was pretty scummy.

look forward to ironman mode that auto saves only after a completed mission, will make retreating an actual thing

I wish there was an Ironman mode (there might be one in the future) but even without one I lost Behemoth and Dekker at some point during my first playthrough since I was too lazy to reload the game after winning some dope wrecks.

Has anyone found a better chassis for a LRM boat than the 4 missile hardpoint Highlander? I want to see how absurd they can get. I had this fitted with an LRM 10 in the place of the 5 but it just ran too hot. Could only fire two full salvos before redlining and then could only sustain 30 per turn. Dropping to 65 and throwing on extra heat sinks fixed that problem.

I use my Stalker (85T Assault) for that role but Highlanders are so incredibly well rounded I'd be hesitant to disagree with you. Think I'm running LRM15+++X2 and LRM10+++X2 on my Stalker, but I'm also running 2x Pulse Lasers and 2x Medium Lasers. The rest of the space is obviously LRM ammo and heat sinks. My two Highlanders I run AC20 on one (the one you get from the mission) and LRM20x2, and the other has a PPC and LRM20x2. They can't shit out quite as many missiles as if I went pure missile boat, but I want some direct fire weapons in there. PPC's are especially nice if you're going to use a single weapon because of Breach and the fact that it doesn't need ammo for those drawn out missions.

Also for that particular HL you'd be foolish to not rock the gauss cannon on it. You'll be able to get another HL eventually, but it's a different variant, the right arms have energy slots instead of ballistic.

Edit: Also Chys, I totally copied your Atlas config for post-game. It's a fun little wrecking ball to spring on smaller mechs.

I have my Gauss in an Atlas I salvaged from a mission, it fits pretty nicely there too. The ballistic slot on the atlas is right torso so the Gauss is better protected than in the arm of a highlander, 210 armor vs 150 and more structure as well. Must protect my precious precious cannon. That LRM boat is purely made to sit at the back and lob death from out of LoS.

See, but I'm using my Highlander completely differently. SRM6's, 2 medium lasers, and a buttload of heatsinks and jump jets. As it stands right now, all of my mechs can move fairly well, except for my catapult, which I'm thinking of taking off like a medium laser off it and tossing on a couple'a heavy jump jets.

Here's my Catapult as it stands.

I mean, it hits like a fucking truck, don't get me wrong. It's just getting him up there to hit something.

Seems incredibly excessive. LRMs are really inefficient for damage even with +dmg mods on them because the hit locations are so random. LRMs are for knockdowns, either for getting full salvage via wounds or getting free called shots against prone opponents. I also don't like running without full frontal armor, even on an LRM platform, because they do take fire from time to time and getting your LRM+ racks blown off is shitty as hell, both in terms of losing the weapon and losing firepower for the rest of the mission.

I think the ideal lance setup is short range tanky mech, long range sniper mech with sensor lock, and two LRM boats. sniper can play sensor bitch for your LRMs when there's no LOS for direct shots, which should be most of the time if you aren't a fan of getting your face blown off.

I mean, here's the thing about SR weapons... They are no fucking joke either. I know, I get it, I do. But there's something special about being in someone's face, meleeing them and seeing 4 SR lasers go off immediately causing another 80 points of damage. That's on top of the 75? 80? That you've already caused them by meleeing them.

I mean, the only reason I think that they didn't cause the SRM's to go off was because it would become stupid powerful.
