No moving air to cool you off. Open a window and put a box fan in it. Or just wait til it gets cold enough.

I picked up some cheap nashbar rollers to keep my cycling fitness up over the winter time/work on my spin game and tested them out this morning. Holy shit, I don't know if it's because I'm not moving so no air circulation or what but I've never sweated so hard in all my life. Was on them for like 20~ minutes and my whole T-shirt was just soaked from sweat and I even had a fan blowing on me.

I plan on setting up my laptop in front of the rollers and catch up on my movies/TV shows.
Those things are a surprisingly good workout, aren't they? I picked up aKurt Kineticfor the winter, since I live in Fuck You Cyclist New England. I have high hopes for it, but most of the appeal of cycling for me is just getting the hell out of the house and turning my head off for a couple of hours.

Unrelated, I dumped the stock 2.0 WTB tires on my 29'er, and went with a 2.35" Schwalbe HD on the front and a 2.25 Ardent on the back. Holy fuckballs what a difference! I knew that the stock tires on my Scalpel wouldn't be the greatest, but for $2000 I figured they'd at least be decent - changing up to better tread on a softer tire with a little more width was like night and day, the thing is glued to the corners now, even in the wet shit.

Also: I discovered chainlove.com the other day, and am pretty sure that it's going to make me broke as fuck before the spring gets here..

Would one of those bike trainer thingies work with a Trek Top Fuel 8 cross country bike?

I think they are pretty much for road bikes man.

Chainlove is pretty awesome, I've been hopelessly addicted to that and SteepandCheap and WhiskeyMilitia for a while now. I've found some great deals on CL, the markup on bike shit in stores is unreal. I try to do a google search on items before I buy though, sometimes their retail price is really retail and not internet retail, and their discount isn't much better than Jenson or PricePoint or Universal Cycle or Modern Bike. If its just an impulse discount buy I'd rather avoid it and wait for real deals. You have to be patient and a bit obsessive, but I've scored some great clothes and huge markdowns especially buying out of season. Like with winter coming its going to be a good time to look out for summer shorts and jerseys. I got some North Face mountain bike shorts early this year for like 40 bucks and you know how overpriced that brand can be, they are very nice though and wereat least$80 anywhere else.

anyone have suggestion for winter cyclocross-like tires? I want to ride my Caseroll during the winter so I need something that can take down most light snow.

Find something studded? There's only so much you can do, the real solution to snow is width and volume, I thought you were dead set on picking up a fat bike? Just do it man, you only live once, if you can pay it off reasonably just use a credit card. You won't regret it after you are outside riding all winter.

Are you talking about riding road?

Yeah, it'll be road/trail in the winter for the most part. The new Mukluk3 looks pretty sweet, so it might be just that instead.

Bikes direct has cheap fat bikes up right now if you are looking to stay on a budget.Save Up To 60% Off Fat Bikes and Fat Mountain Bicycles from bikesdirect.com

Also, rollers are a great cardio/form training work out but are shit for muscle building unless I buy a resistance magnet.

Edit: I wish it snowed here in Portland, fat bikes look like an absolute blast to just mash around in.

It's not just snow though, mud/sand are fun as hell. I'm going to "demo" one next week for a night or two and see what I can do with it. Traditional ride is through the state park along the Mississippi River (River Bottoms).

Fat tires are actually pretty fun on trails in general. I've thought about getting a fat fork/front wheel for my El Mariachi ever since I saw someone else's set up that way.
