All I know about aerobars is too avoid the guy on them because he probably has the bike handling skills of a five year old.

Haha, was reading up on them and that a lot of people actually overuse them, especially in terrain that suited for them. I don't know if I would like them or not, given that I flew over my handlebar once and like to keep my hands near my brakes. ;\

They seem like triathlete gear, and obviously those guys aren't real cyclists!!!

I have a set. I've only used them a couple of times - they're not something I'd use daily but fun for a change of pace. And I don't give a fuck what other cyclists think of me. Grab a set and see how you like 'em.

Figured I'll ask you bros here because I'm fairly noob when it comes to bikes. I use to have a schwinn street bike waaay back in the day but it has long since broke, so I've been wanting to pick up something new to use.

Any advice on a type of beginner bike that isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg? I'd most likely be using it on paved roads but honestly I wouldn't mind going on some back trails as well (nothing too risky/dangerous) I'm from Michigan so it's not like there are a ton of trails in the mountains and shit. Decent Brands for street/trail biking? Decent helmets? Also, how important is it to actually test the bike out beforehand? Part of me just wants to search online and find something with good reviews & a decent price and just order it online and have it shipped, but would it be smart to find something I like then go to a store to try it out in person, or is that not really needed?

Thanks guys

I got a Trek X-Caliber 8 a few months ago and have been real happy with it. You can get the X-Caliber 4 for around $500, and the X-Caliber 9 tops out around $1300 depending how much you want to spend. They offer 0% financing too if your credit is good.

If you are a bike noon, you need to buy it from a lbs otherwise you will likely by the wrong size bike and not know how to set it up properly and your back will hurt ten minutes into the ride then you'll just leave it sitting in the garage collecting dust.

Also, a cross bike would be a good bet. You can do trails and road riding on it comfortably without swapping anything.

If you're hurting for cash, go to a local bike shop and get your measurements on the bike that suits you. Say, "Oh, I'll think about it," and look for bikes on craigslist for 60% cheaper. Just upgrade parts by taking them to a bike shop.

Switched out my black bar tape for green and went from black Continental Gran Prix tires to green. Matches the green SRAM Red and Cannondale team colors quite well! Now hopefully I'll stand out a bit more to speeding rednecks.

Worst part about that bike is he didn't even align the tire labels with the valves.

Haha jesus. At least now no one would have any doubts with that bike.

I do love my bike, though. :x

Not only has it been hot in vegas, but this wind. Id much rather ride in 110 degrees than ever ride in wind alone. Especially a 20mph headwind when going uphill.
