Did some hax0r shit go down with Coinbase? I got a notification a few moments ago about an ETH purchase. I have 2-factor authentication enabled, so I was able to freeze this transaction. HOWEVER, once changing my password and logging into my account I can see my account balance is WAY the fuck down and some my transaction history is showing a bunch of Dodgecoin purchases and SHIB conversions. What the fuck.

Just checked my shit on Coinbase pro everything looks correct. But in light of what happened in Canada with going after people's money I'm finally moving all my crypto into a hardware wallet

The other thing Ive been thinking about for the past few weeks is how 2FA apps like Google Authenticator, etc. are huge points of failure. I lost my phone a few months ago and getting back into all my accounts (email, crypto, bank, credit cards, many others) was a colossal pain in the ass, because everything had 2FA verifications activated.

All the government has to do is contact the half a dozen companies that run these apps and you can be locked out of everything with from one central point.

Have all my Google authenticator stuff copied to my wife's phone so if I lose mine I don't get locked out of anything

2FA being tied to having an electronic device in your possession is fundamentally flawed and its fucked up it it was ever accepted. The government being able to lock you out of everything (and you're right about that) is just one of the many ways this can fuck users.

So, this isn't making sense to me. I got a response stating that $1500 worth of Dogecoin was send out of my acccount.

1) I didn't have anywhere near that amount of Doge. So someone converted one crypto to anoither and I never received any 2FA authorization for this.
2) If someone logged in with my account then why didn't I received an email alerting me to a "New Device Confirmation"? Which is exactly what happened to me when I logged into my account to inspect what was going on (I hadn't logged in in months by this point).

I can see they are going down the road of this being my fault for having unsecured shit, but I don't see how this is possible given the email and 2FA evidence...?

I dunno man. I think we are a long way from BTC (or any crypto) being censorship resistant. If your government is going to act like a tyrant*, BTC isn't going to save you.

* Speaking theoretically here- not necessarily in reference to this specific Canadian example
I’m actually working on spinning up a government resistant coin called LeadCoin

Doesnt' sound like there's much I can do. The Reddit group is saying that I probably had a "sim-swap" done on me, but still none of this makes sense when you couple that with the total lack of email notifications. Also being lambasted for not using proper security. I had 2FA enabled but apparently SMS texts are problematic. Guess I'll offload my crypto to cold storage once my account access is restored.

Sim swap won't work with Google authenticator. You had google authenticator right?

If someone got control of your account, they would change your email before making any other moves. I'm sure emails were sent when transactions were made, the emails just didn't come to you.

What they should have, and I guess they don't, is the notification system when someone logs on from a new computer.

But here's the thing, when I went to access my Coinbase account emails WERE sent to my email address. I even looked at my email account activity history and see nothing about having been logged in on some other system. So it doesn't look like they had access to my email account.

I could understand if they got access to my Coinbase account and then changed email addresses and phone numbers, but all that shit still worked when they attempted to purchase Etherium and that's when I was able to shut it down. The question remains why didn't these security measures fire for the crypto conversions and subsequent transfer out?

Not sure I'm getting this. If emails were sent to your email address why didn't you get them? Did you just miss them?

I received emails when *I* accessed my Coinbase account (remember, I said I hadn't logged in in a few months so you have to go through the usual routine of confirmation). If someone ELSE logged into my account then logically those same emails should've went out, but they didn't. I received a SMS text notification of an attempted Etherium purchase which is what alerted me to this unauthorized activity. Like I said, I did get that notification so why didn't I get a notification for the send of Doge?
