I would advice against HMLS for a 99 arc build , It's a split damage weapon, and scales better together with STR/SKL. R1 damage is shit on pure ARC-HMLS but can be slightly improved with nourishing gems, if you are up for spending time in chalice dungeons.
R2 use is the only viable option for a 99 ARC build with that sword. Drawback is that both R2 and charge R2 use alot of stamina, and you don't want to waste too many points on endurance if you want go the 99 ARC route, so you need to find and equip stamina runes to slightly balance it out.
This configuration still forces you to do additional chalice runs to farm for cold gems, to raise the existing ARC stat on your weapon. R2 and Charged R2 also steal QS bullets from you if you want to maximise damage.
So all that trouble to have an ARC-HMLS that really only shines in ranged encounters against bosses is IMHO a waste of time. In a 99 ARC build the hunters tools should always be your main weapon, the rest of the games arsenal of weapons should be considered your weapon for trash mobs and maybe mini bosses, depending on your QS bullet situation. If you want a weapon that have a similar moveset like the HMLS, Ludwig's Holy Blade is a better fit for an arcane build as it isn't a split weapon and have much higher damage output in R1 without any QS cost.

That makes sense. It sounds like the hardest part of an Arcane run for me will probably be the same as the Bloodtinge run: The BSB fight. Can't get the weapon I want until after that, and that fight is a bit of a road block for me for whatever reason. I know about throwing vials to lure him and whatnot, it just doesn't work that well for me. I'll need to find a good way to take him down without an Arcane weapon and with low stats. Maybe I can use Molotovs.

Edit: Forgot you can get Flamesprayer before that. Hopefully that works well on him at least. BSB is probably the only boss in the game that I still have issues with, especially if I'm low-leveled.

For me it worked well with blood cocktails to lure him away, then then firepaper with threaded cane in whip form combo, mixed with some oil urns and molotovs for fun, Biggest challenge of the fight was the "camera monster" ;)

BSB is like the easiest boss. Just dodge left each time as it only attacks right.

Its left or my left? I didn't know that. I do fine with the first two phases, then get overwhelmed in the 3rd phase by its attack spam.

The entire fight it only attacks one direction.

I'll keep that in mind when I get to it. Just started the "Arcane build" run. Went Cruel Fate and took the axe and blunderbuss like I did the very first time I played the game (when it didn't work out). Should be interesting to see how I do with the axe compared to that first run where I had no idea what I was doing. Plan is to beat Father G, get Flamesprayer, beat BSB, get Ludwig's Holy Sword, then spec Arcane. Eventually I'll also use Rosemarinus and Hunter Tools.

What's the difference between the Pistol and Blunderbuss, anyway? I always go with the Pistol. I presume the Blunderbuss does less damage while having more of a cone-range?

Edit: Ended up starting with the Threaded Cane instead, made more sense for an Arcane character to start with that. I'll do an axe playthrough (and avenge my original run) whenever the remaster comes out. Fun Fact, out of my five main playthroughs, I chose: Axe (failed), Cane, Cleaver, Nothing (Guns), and now Cane again.

Just had some REALLY weird stuff happen. I fought Father G a few times and lost, then decided I don't have time to be messing with this at the moment (I want to get to the Arcane-oriented weapons and gameplay which is why I'm playing it again, and I've beaten Father G many times). So I rang the bell and another player who looked like Walter White showed up. We went in and started fighting, then midway through the fight, a crazy-looking cthulu-headed guy showed up and joined the fight. I didn't even know summoned players could join mid-fight, thought it had to be pre-fight.

In any case, we kept fighting for a few more seconds, then Father G got stunned, the cthulu-headed guy jumped on him like one of those bloodsucker enemies, and the boss' HP went from about 75% to 0% instantly.

What the hell was that

Bloodborne was my first souls game and I wasn't really sold on it until I convinced myself to stick it out on BSB. The rush of killing that fucker had me hooked.

Weird thing is, I don't remember having that much trouble with Father G or Amelia the first time I played. The absolute roadblocks were Cleric Beast and then BSB.

Speaking of which, I just reached BSB and he absolutely whooped my ass several times. I stayed on his left, then stayed on his right, didn't matter. Maybe I just need levels, since I'm still close to the starting level.

I dunno why, but it seems BSB is my kryptonite. Alfred is also weirdly missing (I did talk to him) and not summonable. Though in my experience, he didn't help with the fight anyway. The pungent blood vials work great, I guess I could farm those (if possible) and just cheese the fight. My problem is the last 66% of the fight. Phase 2 is iffy and then phase 3 kills me.

Chain form does bonus beast damage. That with fire paper really fucks him up.

Ebrietas was the boss that almost made me quit the game. I dont remember having too much trouble with any of the others until her. I just couldn't figure out how to dodge the star fall type attack and eventually beat her by just brute forcing and getting lucky

Bloodborne: Endless Nocturne is set to be announced for PC and PlayStation 5 this September during a State Of Play, with a November 2021 release following soon after. That's according to a new rumour doing the rounds online that was originally shared to 4Chan.
Sad to say but probably only 4Chan trolling

Did you mean Brainsucker? Never heard of or seen that kind of move that lets you mimic a brainsucker, very odd indeed.

Do you mean the one in the upper cathedral ward at the altar after you break the large window?

Ebrietas is sort of the big optional boss of the base game IMO, outside of Chalice Dungeons or Old Hunters. I didn't find the fight too bad the one time I did it, but I was also like level 150 or something ridiculous at that point because it was one of the last things I did. I probably had a ton of HP.

It wasn't that move, it was just similar. It was more like he got the boss in a headlock from behind while he was staggered, and bit him, or something like that. His HP just dramatically plummeted in a few steps. Like one huge hit followed by several less-huge hits all in around one second.

Dont remember where she was, Ebrietas daughter of the cosmos. She was an optional boss as said above but I did her during my playthrough before beating the game and she was a ball buster
