Yeah I used to hate how fast they released units, but lately I'm changing my mind a little. Even if they put in a crazy rateup, the odds are vastly stacked against a good 50% of the pool of units in the pool being useless or dupes for me. I have like 8 or 10 7* out of probably 50, but the ability overlap is pretty insane and after having used pretty much every one of them via friends, they're all boring now =p. (That's also why I'm excited about Balgran - doubly so after Ishad told me he was actually good.) I'm missing dozen of the "meta" units, but the only ones I really want are crit buffers and units like Ruby (hell, another Claire) for FH.
Actually, I'll leave that there, but I changed my mind while posting this and actually think they're releasing more than enough units but that not many are outclassing what came before (I'm only thinking of the 7* era on, obviously). There seem to be as many sidegrades - Feeva then Griel, Kikuri then Medina - as upgrades like Claire to Raaga.
Hell, I dunno I'm smashed. Time to stop posting!
IMO it is high time to start looking at units via what they do vs who they are.
What I mean by that is this: There are 2 critical questions anyone can ask themselves to distill whether or not they *need* to summon (as opposed to just 'want', in which case folks should just do what they feel and enjoy themselves.)
1) Do I have units that cover all the important roles? (Crit buffer, spark buffer, BC/BB buffer(s), Elemental buffer, Infinite STSBB, Healer, Mitigator, Status inflictor etc.)
2) Do I have enough units that with the right preparation (i.e., you have the cost/spheres/imps etc to field a full squad of your choice from the units you own), that you can beat ALL the content currently in the game?
If anyone can answer yes to both of those questions, then they don't *need* to summon anything, no matter what units are getting a rate up or just released. The second question is more clarifying than the first....you can cover all the roles but still need to be able to mix-n-match a little to best meet any content....but once you can beat everything, there is no purpose of new units at all other than just the sheer fun of it. Once you have what you need to be able to beat everything, why use gems to summon units that might be new now but will be outdated when content rolls out that you *can't* yet beat.
For me personally, there is still plenty of content I haven't yet beaten in the game - however I'm pretty damn sure I could beat everything with what I already have after I put in the requisite work.
...Doesn't mean I'm not gonna drop all manner of gems and summon tickets for a Vesti though
lol Like I said though, that is largely a question of Want...I want a Vesti bad, and it would be great fun to be able to raise one up.....But I'd still be able to get along just fine without one (no doubt a good percentage of any persons friend list will be Vesti after she gets released, so Vesti's will be available to me even if I don't get one myself.)
I just think that once a person gets past their
needsthen they can afford start hoarding their gems and only using them when it is of greatest value to them. (...with Popular unit rate ups being fantastic time to drop gems.) I have zero units from the most recent batch, and I still don't have a Raaga/Colt/Claire/Kanon...however even Colt is soon going to be power-creeped past with new units coming out in the next couple of months (and Claire is considerably less shiny without a Colt imo....and while Raaga is absolutely Beast, during the last Frontier Hunter I got noticeably higher scores in Terminus when using a Ruby friend vs a Raaga friend.)....At this point I'd rather wait for the units that would make Colt (and others) old news rather than dumping gems on units I can already do fine without.
Between all that and a hefty influx of older units (that most of us already have an assortment of) that are getting their 7-star forms, it is a great time to be picky and patient with summons imo.
