Yeah, he's just a normal teenage kid doing normal teenage shit, then BOOM the fucking floor drops out from under his world. I actually thought he was really good in that scene where Skyler pulls the knife on Walt, and again on the phone call.

Despite my inner loathing for how much meeeehhhhh he was, Flynn was pretty much perfect. Especially the part where he takes a nickname because he doesn't like being Walt, Jr in high school. He's so boring because we all knew that guy (minus the leg braces) in high school. That's one of those cases where being boring means he was doing it right.

breakfast walt is a kid, beyond a disability (which is also irl), he's just a kid, kids are not interesting, so like others have said, he played it perfect. plus it seems in breaking bad he was lucky enough to have 1 father and 1 almost father, uncle hank acted more like more than an uncle. we'll never know if he called uncle hank to bail him out cuz of his connections, or cuz he didnt want to disappoint walt or he just felt closer to hank, maybe a bit of it all. And he was about the only person to show hank the truth when hank was emo about walking, coming from a kid who has had to fight that all his life. it's also why he hated walt, he lost 2 fathers that day.

Well, the thing to remember, is that Eliot and Gretchen seem to be fairly accomplished liars in their own right. In Season 1, they tell their friends that Walter is the one who perfected their first patent formula on some kind of crystal--and this lead to Gray Matter taking off. In Season 5 though, they seemed completely genuine when telling the interviewer Walt had nothing to do with anything but the name.
Well of course. They were protecting their company and trying to distance themselves from a drug lord. Probably doesn't look too good to investors when they find out a dude on the FBI top 10 was a key founding member of the business.

although knowing that the maker of the purest meth in the world also made Gray Matter's crystal formula wouldnt deter me at all from investing.

Yeah, it was a logical lie--just commenting how easy it came to them. But that's pretty standard for CEO's, I've never met one that wasn't easily as deceptive as anything Heisenberg could throw out there, because that's the nature of their job, glad handing the board, their holders, and the other companies they do business with, it all involves a lot of manipulation. So, in the post before, where he talked about how they didn't show any guilt or remorse? That wouldn't be surprising from the head of a billion dollar company, even if they did something wrong--CEOs are used to making uncomfortable choices and then being able to be pleasant afterwords, you wouldn't last a day in the job otherwise.

I never got the impression they were anything but genuine though. I watched the entire series in about a month, so never had the chance to rewatch episodes, but I always got the impression that Walt left the company by his own choice and stubborn pride. It felt like Gretchen and Elliott wanted to help Walt when they found out about the cancer because he was important to them and the company and they feel bad for him. Not because they fucked him over; because all 3 of them knew he screwed up by walking away. The decision to distance themselves from Walt at the end comes down to nothing to gain by staying silent, and a lot to lose. They're protecting their business, not necessarily themselves.

or walt could have figured they would collapse without him and when they not only did not collapse but thrived more and more as years go by its rubbing him rawer and rawer. so when he cashed out initially he wasnt so mad, it just grew and when he was dying and had nothing to leave his family but debt, thats when his anger took over.

Anyone right now would be trying to distance themselves from Walt at that point. Also, it didn't seem to come easy them, that interview came off as pretty awkward to me. You think the principal of the school that hired him isn't just as "smoothly" lying about Walt?

Yep, and this fits both Walt's personality and the shocked reaction of Gretchen when Walt accused them of ruining his life. It also fits how even though Walt took bloody vengeance on everyone else that had wronged him, his only vengeance on them was to force them to launder money to his kids.

Anyone go through the thing more than once? I've only watched a number of episodes multiple times in the week they came out but I've only watched the series from start to finish once. I've thought about starting it over again but I have this apprehension that I'll find the early two steps fowards, three steps back elements of Walt's operation incredibly annoying. Combine that with Harpy_01 and Harpy_02 and I fear I'll find that I dislike a huge chunk of the show now.

i rewatched season 1-3 before season 4 and skyler and marie didnt become more annoying. in fact the only one who i wanted to die faster was jane. cute girl, but that monkey on her back turned her into a monster.

Jesse doing dumb shit drove me crazy many times, those are the parts I would be worried about having to deal with on a rewatch. I was already rooting for him to die plenty of times before, or at least grow smarter. Not sure I could handle knowing that he doesn't.

^ Yep. Upon a (third) re-watch, it's so painful to watch Jesse ruin everything. Only a few things were Walt's fault (wanting to expand their territory, misinterpreting Gus several times, Mike's death). Jesse, on the other hand, was always upsetting the balance and ultimately causing the biggest conflicts. The biggest thing was when he went after Gus' henchmen and Walt ran them over to save his life - if Jesse just lets it go, they continue on with their cushy jobs and make millions happily. Walt just needed to get rid of Jesse once he met Gus and the story would have had a happy ending.
