nah, fuck him. In the end he proves himself to be just as bad as Hank and Walt.

Jesse is the only one in the entire show who even had the option to break the chain, and he chose revenge instead.

Edit: Which I'm not even bitching about. That's exactly right. Or at least it was one completely congruent way to take Jesse. There were others which would have been happier... but Jesse isn't an innocent in this. The most memorable scene in the entire show for me is the speech Jesse gives at his NA meeting.

This is a tragedy after all.

I don't see how Hank is even remotely in the conversation as being "as bad as" Walt. Just because he is willing to sacrifice Jesse to get Walt, who by his own confession is complicit in a fuckload of murders? Hank is a fucking white knight of pure goodness compared to either one of them.

Hank serves a different master and of the three Hank is theleastbad. But Hank is exactly the sort of zealot that Walt is.

It takes a crook to catch a crook and all that. Hank being the least bad doesn't make him good, imho. But yeah if you're gonna root for someone, you root for Hank. Hank does have some redeeming qualities, where they've systematically stripped those away from Walt and Jesse is... well, just in way over his head and has been since episode 1.

this is the true foreshadowing from the hank / jesse scenes. hank going to jail yo.
This wouldn't surprise me actually. The last episode made it pretty clear that they are not going to bust Walt using conventional cop tactics. I can see Hank saying "fuck it" to all his cop rules and doing anything necessary to take down Walt. He already took the first step towards insubordination when he brought Jesse to his house instead of the DEA headquarters.

hank took quite a few questionable moves over the course of this show. he has used his position to get marie, walt and walt jr out of trouble with the law, he started a bar brawl, got caught spying on an elderly couple in their RV. he attacked jesse in his home, illegally surveiled people and never reported his PTSD which is probably a bigger deal than anything else.

The show is called Breaking Bad, not Walt is a Monster. Everyone is corrupted by the drug trade, including Hank and the women. It happened to Skyler a long time ago (and I credit the show for making an unlikable character have such a natural progression into suggesting murder to her husband). It's happening to Hank and Marie now. The show is all about how far you are willing to go to get what you want, and how many lies you'll tell to hide your selfish motivations. That's seen in every character short of Walt Jr. and Holly.

This is completely normal and seen as a perk of being part of the fraternity of law enforcement, particularly by most members of said fraternity.

bunch of useless shit
But none of that was his lighter. He had his lighter. In his hand. Lit. When Hank walked in and very clearly said to turn off his lighter. This is why I wondered if I missed a joke, and at this point I'm hoping I did and it was just awful. The alternative if that our beloved Tuco has gone over the edge in to Astr0's turf...

Jesse's flaw has always been that the acts with his heart and not with his head. Going after Walt like this is very reminiscent of when he went after Gus's drug dealers when Andrea's little brother was killed. It makes him the most compassionate and easy to sympathize with of the characters, but also makes him one of the most irresponsible and chaotic.

Hank serves a different master and of the three Hank is theleastbad. But Hank is exactly the sort of zealot that Walt is.

I've always seen Hank as being somewhat of a mirror to Walt. Both are willing to do whatever it takes as a means to an end and, as time has gone on, it has become more and more selfish for both of them. Walt's actions are primarily bad, while Hank's are primarily good, but both frequently cross their respective lines. It's why I wouldn't be the least surprised to have the show end with Hank ending up in jail, while Walt gets away.

I was making the joke that it would have been hilarious had Jesse dumped all the gasoline on the floor then furiously searched for his lighter. He slowly looks up and fades to remembering Huell pick pocketing his lighter off him in addition to five hoagies.

Personally I'm having a hard time really getting into this season. I thought it lost direction and became almost episodic, like Burn Notice or something, especially with the train heist

Skylar's breakdown and the new characters were difficult to care much about - going from underground meth lab to squatting houses and stealing chemicals again seemed a bit of a step back ... They've also made all of the characters progressively more irritating - Skylar and Jesse have both become intolerable, Hank and Marie have become very one-dimensional, even Walt you find it harder to care about because he's become quite distant from the plot

The first season was very strong on its own - had a definite sense of direction connecting it all together ... Then the next three were all one great story arc - it never slowed up ... But I think this whole season feels very much bolted on - I think as David Chase might say: after Fring, we know everything about the characters we need to know now ... Not to sound too negative - I think the whole season's been building up to a big climax ... But there's not the same tension now, is there?

Yeah, that's just you. Agreed that the most recent episode was the least exciting of the season so far, but this season has been great. The "step back" in Walt's operation makes sense after taking Fring down.

Also, the first season is not very strong on its own. It's OK.

Listened to the latest Inside Breaking Bad podcast and Gilligan said that the full cut of Walt's confession video and also Jesse's confession to Hank would be available as a dvd extra.
