~"My partner, who is a man, can't tell you about feminism. He knows a lot about it. He considers himself a feminist, but you want to learn feminism from him? No," she commented during the session. "You need to learn feminism from a woman. You need to learn what it is like to be a woman from a woman. He can't teach that. I can't teach students of color nearly as well as a person of color can."
"It's that savior mentality, like 'save them, because they are not like us,' and that normalization of whiteness. Whiteness is best and those poor others aren't as good as us," she said. "So, we need to think of them and give them our sympathy and our charity and our generosity, which is so demeaning to the people on the receiving end. It's so demoralizing and disempowering to be receiving it."
Lithose makes excellent points. He thinks it's harmful to label a group of people as being privileged because it is a form of generalization that removes individuality from the equation, which is fine. He's equating it to racism or sexism in that sense, which is also fine. In the end, that doesn't change that being a white male offers advantages in terms of getting ahead in life, which is my point. The tragedy here is that Lithose's excellent posts are all in vain. Those guys are strictly operating on an emotional level and are unable to have a critical thought or reasoning. They feel what is right and wrong and that's that.
Hahaha my balls. Have you even read this thread? No, that isn't what is in question.
Ah, so what you think is in question is how people choose to misinterpret my stance. Gotcha. You don't need to constantly be "aware" of anything. You've already crossed over. Whether you like it or not, you've checked your privilege. I ain't morally judging anyone, but damned if I ain't gonna call an asshole an asshole. What IS in question is the way you come to these sweeping conclusions and provide nothing other than "it is apparent" and Louis CK. Or the idea that I need to somehow ceaselessly be "aware" of the idea of this. And of course there is there that final level of moral judgement you are hesitant to lay at the feet of the oppressors, at least openly, but as Lithose says we all know where this leads, you're just being coy.
Punko gets it.Glad to be white, I guess.
That was Trollface you just called Trollface a genius. The big problem is that the term "privilege" is a terrible term. No reasonable person would argue that white males on average don't have advantages over other races and genders. However, the word privilege is a VERY loaded term. It says "unearned," "undeserved," which invoke guilt. That's why people get defensive about it. It's a shitty term.
When did the focus go from decrying racism and sexism to belittling those who are NOT victims of racism and sexism? Most of the "privileges" afforded while males arehuman rights. That white men experience these benefits and not others is not a sign of white male privilege, but a sign that racism and sexism is still rampant.
Let's go back to pointing out racism and sexism and shaming those who act in such ways. Let's not passive aggressively shame those who aren't victims. It's so backwards.
Whoever said it's original sin all over again is a fucking genius. I'm using that
Dabamf gets it.No reasonable person would argue that white males on average don't have advantages over other races and genders.
tell that to the white people that are denied college acceptance not because of merit but because of the color of their skinDoing so in no way hurts you or diminishes your quality of life
"We" are not giving black kids scholarships. Most of the black scholarships are setup by black charities. Everyone can apply for Pell grants regardless of skin color. Public university quotas are illegal, that's not how affirmative action works. Your black family vs white family argument is completely pulled out of your ass, white families face a lot less scrutiny in applying for assistance than blacks in rural areas, and most poverty in the US is rural believe it or not.In all, a White Male may have some passive auras that we may be too ignorant to see. But the truth of the matter is that in the USA, at least, we have went from KKK to bending over backwards for Black People. Where we will give a Black Kid a Scholarship to a Grad program, but not the White Kid based on their skin color alone. Where a grad program will accept a Black Kid with a 3.5 GPA over a White Kid with a perfect GPA just because they have to have a certain amount of Blacks within the program. Where, on the other end of the spectrum, we have a White Family within the poverty line being denied Government assistance, yet a Black Family just above the poverty line is accepted. Where that same Black Family is afforded Tax Refund checks based on relief funds that are specifically for minority families. --- If we're trying so damn hard to end Racism and prove equality, then why the fuck are we promoting one race above another? USA has an outrageous amount of White Guilt and its sickening.
I AM A GENIUS.That was Trollface you just called Trollface a genius.
Trollface use this against Dabamf as often as you can.
Almost every conflict between males and females comes back to the rejection of the legitimacy of the male experience. The fundamental lack of understanding the male experience influences women's perceptions of our sex. Whether it's understanding our sexual impulse, our idealizations of love, or appreciating the sacrifices men uniquely make to facilitate certain female realities, the disconnect always boils down to a fundamental lack of appreciating the legitimacy of a male experience.
It's easy to write this disconnect off as an existential difference. Obviously men and women cannot spend time in each others' bodies to directly appreciate the experience of the other. However, in much of our current social makeup, the presumption is that a feminine directed "equalism" is the onlylegitimateexperience. Which is evidenced by Mist's and Tanoomba's presumptions that if you're a male, you're experiencing the game of life on "easy" mode. If you're awhitemale, you're experiencing it on "faceroll" mode. Thus the masculine experience is, by default, delegitimized, if not vilified, for simply reminding females that inherent, evolved differences challenge equalism by masculinity's very presence.
Tanoobia needs to get out of this thread, get back in the kitchen, make some sammiches for all the posters in this thread, and not return until she's not PMSing.
