In all fairness, I don't think Dr. Retarded ever said he watched Nerdrotic, he just bagged on men with toys.
Off the top of my head, IIRC, Gary is from San Diego; he's a Gen X guy who has always had nerd interests but fell into drugs in his young adult life, spent time in prison, got out, got sober, opened a comic shop in San Fran, at some point before or after fell off the wagon, had to close/sell his comics shop and worked a bunch of jobs, parts delivery, video editing, etc. He and some guys from the shop started a podcast talking about Nerd things (Dr. Who/Star Trek/LOTR) that led into YouTube and 15ish years later now he has 1M+ subscribers and runs a weekly show that has like 25K+ viewers across Youtube/Rumble/Etc.

Yeah you're right, I just probably have seen one or two of his videos for a moment or so before I clicked off on it and it was because somebody here and posted it. I mean all of them look the same with toys in the background and growing a beard to try to show that they're manly and but not know how to change a tire or something. It's not my fault I can't remember which one is the ultra retard of the moment.
I just can't keep up with all of the neck beard weirdos and can't do the rage click style criticism of films and video games, and it's extremely easy to get all of these losers confused. What's crazy is they have an audience which leads me to believe there a bunch of other Space cadets out there that actually watch this stuff religiously.
That's not that I don't appreciate somebody doing actual real analysis of film. Oliver Harper is probably one of my favorites but he is a very clean cut, excellent format in which he talks about old films. You also never see his face and his doll collection. That badass collects laser discs, we're tracking appreciate just how niche that is, but that's pretty goddamn cool. I don't think he's got dolls he probably just has old NES games and shit. That mother fucker has actually put out some some pretty good documentaries just all independent and what have you. He easily deserves your sub, but a fag like the nerdrotic weirdo, not so much.

Here's another pretty good dude that doesn't have to show his face and all of his gay toys in the background. I sometimes don't agree with some of those takes on things but I appreciate the fact that he's trying to be serious about real criticism of film and the art. Point being is that there are folks out there that really have a good discussion about the things that we do appreciate and like, and it's not that rage date hyper faggy shit.

The toys are weird, but I find the people that collect the I dunno statuettes? even weirder. Like an entire basement full of glass cases, with these 12" tall things that cost hundreds of dollars. At least the toys conceivably they get collected here and there at cheap money each, it's just a collection thing. What the fuck are you doing with hundreds of statuettes? Do you walk around and look at them periodically or something?

The toy aversion thing is weird but you do you, bro. Watch a few of his videos and then tell me what you think of this takes and his content, particularly on LOTR or any of the livestreams they do. Judging people by their teeth and beard or what's on their wall, I don't get it. And by that I mean that doesn't seem to me to be a good indicator of what one is going to be able to glean from the content or how much you are going to enjoy watching it.
It's really only "rage bait" because Hollywood has been making Woke girlboss bullshit out of existing IPs for so long, the same thing we are seeing in video games, although I think that the free money spigots for such endeavors are slowly drying up and even at the highest levels support for this garbage is waning. The good stuff is talked about quite a bit as well, and Gary in particular references things like The Penguin and House of the Dragon. Its less rage and more disappointment at this stage. These folks are some of the last honest voices left, as per RLM "Nerd Crew" "Don't ask questions, just consume product and then get excited for next product" slashing and burning so many critics. Nerdrotic/Critical Drinker/Mauler/HvBf etc aren't beholden to anyone, and no one gets mad when they say something is good if it actually is vs. Corp/access media and critics.
Again, though, different strokes for different folks.

I have trouble understanding people who "Collect" anything; I barely have space for things I actually use and spares for house electronics in my office. I "collect" books, that I read, although I am on and off on physical books (mostly on) these days. I have a friend from work who is single, has his own house and has plenty of room; he collects game systems and all kinds of collector editions of games from Japan, etc.
I was getting a number of the statues that came with physical copies of games 15+ years ago but I lost the ones I had in the (first of several) flood and was running out of room anyway. My dad collected guns; rifles, shotguns and pistols, and when my parents got divorced in the late 80's his collection was the single most valuable asset in the divorce.
It's really a very interesting question psychologically about why people collect things, which things they collect, the meaning and value they associate and ascribe to their collections, etc.
I agree with DRR that Funkopops are weird, though.

It's just over 2.5 feet tall, designed by the Amano himself, and they only made 600 of them. I think the face could have been a bit more delicate to match the og character art but it's an absolute masterpiece.
