A few of us made a normal raid to quick clear early and when we finished we were like fuck it let's clear heroic too.

There was no real thought behind it, just continued the raid.

The bright side of last nights pugs was even with 5-6 pugs and the village idiots in our raid we owned the GD loot and geared up people who really needed it. We also took 5 people who didn't have the imperator kill with us from RR and got them done.

I know a few people have said normal Imp feels more like an easy mythic boss than a stepping stone to heroic

The normal for sure requires good DPS same as heroic but they are basic mechanic checks that ramp up and lasts 12 minutes.
