God damn we dodged a fucking bullet. Petrino hires Grantham away when Richt inexplicably keeps him, and we get Jeremy Mother Fucking Pruitt to replace him. Praise Tebow, that worked out nicely.
Wasnt completely sold on him overall, but I'd prefer to keep him. For once, we need to stop having so many Fucking coaching changes.

Bama hiring Mel Tucker for their secondary coach. I'm sorry prodigal.
Heh well he coached with Saban at MSU so he knows what he's getting - Saban spends most of his on field coaching with the DBs so if the guy can recruit and coach the position it's all good.

Harbaugh already rubbing some (potential)recruits the wrong way

Nebraska recruit Neal stokes fire of budding rivarly with Michigan - ESPN

Harbaugh also came hard after Missouri commit(and Missouri native) QB Drew Locke, Elite-11 QB whose dad is an ex MU football player. They basically responded the same way as the Nebraska kid in the above story.
Realistically though, that kid has no chance of getting into Michigan with his academics (3.4 GPA / 20 ACT). Was a stupid comment to make by the coaching staff, but he was being truthful and real. The kid and his father are both idiots, especially making this a news story when they obviously do not know the admission standards of the university to begin with. I think they just wanted a little spotlight

But why would you EVER say that to a recruit, or someone who you are trying to gain favor with? Poor salesmanship at it's core.

99% of universities let in athletes with lower academic standards than the general student population is required to have. Mizzou requires a 24 ACT score unless there are extreme extenuating circumstances (very high GPA, top 10% of graduating class, etc, then ACT score can be lower)

Or obviously, if you are a D1-calibur athlete. Everyone makes exceptions. Hell, I doubt the kid meets the minimum requirements for Nebraska if he wasn't a football player.

We don't know exactly how it was said, but I am doubtful it was anything truly negative or isn't like what you think was said. The kid wants a few seconds of stardom and PR, and it seems he's gotten it. However, seems people are defending Michigan more than attacking them from this. No reason to bring this to the National forefront unless that kid and his father have an agenda.

You basically agreed with what I said. If he wasn't an athlete, he stands absolutely no chance of getting into Michigan with the grades he mentioned he had.

It is because Muschamp didn't build a strong class that could survive the attrition of a coaching change. Michigan is going through the same thing.

In Texas news, sounds like Texas is about to flip the # 1 qb in Texas from the aggies, who is an aggie legacy. In the process they will land the no. 1 DT, WR, and RB in Texas as well (3 of the aforementioned 4 are 5 stars). Despite such a bad year, Charlie will end up with a top 5 class assuming it happens as being reported. Pretty ridiculous.

Recruiting is so odd at times.

Going by the ESPN top 300 recruits, only 3 are from Missouri, and only 1 is going to MU (Elite 11 QB Drew Locke), the other 2 are going to Oregon and Alabama

Mizzou has a total of 3 commits in the top 300 though, it's just that one is from Louisiana, and one from Kansas. Although we are thought to be the leader for the #2 overall player. a D-lineman from Illinois/East St Louis.

Missouri's main hindrance in the SEC is just going to be our overall lack of top-tier instate recruits. We have a larger state population than just about every SEC state besides Texas, Florida, and Georgia, yet have fewer high=level recruits than just about all of them. High school football in MO needs to step it up. We often have 1 really high-ranking recruit(Dorial Green Bekham, Blaine Gabbert, Jeremy Maclin, Sheldon Richardson, etc) every few years or so, but we just never have any more than 2 or 3 truly elite players come out of the state in any given year.

For example, the State of Alabama has a population of 4.8 million as of 2014, and has 10 ESPN top 300 recruits
Missouri has a population of 6.0 million and has 3 top 300 recruits.

Although interestingly enough, Alabamas African-American population is 1.2 Mil, why Missouris is only 700K, those numbers tend to be a little bit more on par with the ratio of top-level football recruits between the 2 states. 4 of the top 5 states in African American population are Florida, Texas, Georgia, California.

If you sort states by % of population as African American, then its basically the entire SEC demographic at the top, led by Mississippi, Georgia and Louisiana.

Recruiting base is hugely important, but it's not going to kill you by itself. Tennessee has never had the best recruiting base and our best teams have been built with Georgia, Virginia, South Carolina guys playing a huge part. We also have the biggest recruiting budget in the country and have a much more national brand than say Missouri but I'd think with all your recent success and the fertile grounds nearby you'd be able to recruit at a really high level anyway. Keep winning the SEC East and you'll be reeling in top 10 classes every year.

Louisville is on target to finally break the Top 30 in recruiting! Woohoo!

Football recruiting to me doesn't mean much. There are very little metrics one can really do to truly judge which player is a 3-star, 4-star, etc. It all comes down to the good ole' "Oh, Alabama is looking at this player, they only get the best, 4-5 star he is!" Then you have the opposite: "Oh, Louisville is looking at this kid who is 6-3, 185 for a WR position (Devante Parker in this scenario), lets give him a 2-3 star since Louisville is a unknown" but if he was going to 'Bama, he'd be a 4-5 star instantly. Or hell, Louisville has had players go from a consensus 4-star to a 3-star as soon as they committed (literally within days; it is a running joke in the Louisville-fan community), kindof odd...

Yes and no. I mean stars don't mean everything obviously. We dropped Marques Ford, a 4 star top 247 guy, and he didn't even get offered by a UF team that has like 6 commits. He ended up at Rutgers. Then you get three stars that have commit-able offers from pretty much everyone who is relevant. Overall though recruiting generally means getting better athletes on which to develop. Development is king but when you have the best guys to work with it does help.

Yeah, the odds are definitely against anyone, regardless of rating, of being a good enough player to make it to the NFL, it's just that the odds aren't quite as bad for a 4 or 5 star guy as they are a 2 or 3 star guy, but they're all more likely to be in the failure to average range than they are to be in the good to great(next level) range.

The benefits of getting the high level recruits though is that you might only need 10 5-star recruits to have 2 or 3 amazing NFL-calibur players, whereas you might need 40 3-star guys to get the same number of elite players. That's basically Mizzou recruiting in a nutshell. We almost never get a 5-star guy, but luckily when we do, we don't miss (DGB(who will be a 1st rounder, despite his issues in college), Richardson, Gabbert), but we seem to be a little bit better than most at turning lower-ranked guys into high-level players(Aldon Smith was a 3* guy, Michael Egnew(Dolphins) was a 2* guy, Sean Wetherspoon(Falcons) was a 2-star guy, Chase Daniel(Chiefs) was a 3-star guy, etc.

I won't get into too much depth about my feelings about the recruiting services, but a LOT of a kids ranking is purely just who has offered him, and how early, not necessarily a reflection of his ability. A lot of kids don't get recruited until well into their senior year, or fly under the radar of the big schools for whatever reason, and thats where Missouri has made it's fortune in recent years. We aren't going to get a kid that's been recruited by Alabama and Texas since they were 14, regardless of how his high school career actually plays out.

Ya it is a bummer. Oh well, Charlie is still putting together a great class. Texas is at number 8 and the favorites to land at least a 5 star RB, a 4 star RB, and a 5 star DT (though the DT is impossible to read so I'm not counting on that). The class will end up top 10 for sure with a shot at top 5. The only glaring weakness is the complete void at QB, which is a huge problem. Strong is basically all in on our redshirt freshman. If he is a bust, Charlie will not survive at Texas because that means a true freshman is starting in 2016, Strong's third year following two bad years. At least Texas is finally abandoning pro style bullshit and moving back to spread, read option. 6 years too late on that.

Looks like your most hated DC is now making $1.4 million a fucking year for a DC... Holy... Shit... Either Tom Jurich is a mastermind genius and Grantham turns into a star, or I may mark this down as one of the very, very few fuckups Jurich has done (the only other one being the Kraigthorpe hire). He's the probably best Athletic Director in the nation, but this is just... Wow
