Why would you want to read original collectibles? Other than maybe once or twice just to do it. They have reprints or this shit available that aren't worth potentially hundreds or thousands of dollars if you want to read it.
So why are they worth money lol? There seems to be nothing backing up the value.

I guess it's the same thing as first editions of famous book but... I don't know it just doesn't feel comparable. As far as I know first edition books ARE read, although maybe rarely and carefully?

They are just collectibles. Like baseball cards or old Nazi scalps or something.

The paper comics are printed on, especially older comics, is really shitty. Sunlight and air will ruin it over time. All of the older books I have actually have kind of nice paper and are bound well. I have a Giant Size X-Men #1 bound by staples using paper from the lowest bidder, don't want to read that shit.

chaos' mentioning Harbinger made me do a little googlefu just to see what a few old Valiant books are worth. Man, ain't worth shit. I remember when they had respectable dollar tags attached. I was quite surprised to see that Valiant is back up and running right now, with all of their old books looks like. Haven't bought an actual comic in a long long long time, but I'm kinda tempted. Their first go, they were a really great company with some very solid books. Really liked Harbinger, Eternal Warrior, and Archer and Armstrong. I even wrote an Archer and Armstrong story in high school to submit, just in time for the company to fold. Go figure right? No doubt it sucked, but... /memories Anyone have read their new stuff?

Yeah, I just saw that yesterday actually, I was shocked to see new Valiant comics. I loved those. My favorites were Eternal Warrior, Archer & Armstrong, and X-O Manowar. And Harbinger of course, though it got kind of frustrating at times. I am totally going to have to find and download these.

edit: oh shit, I forgot about Solar. That was awesome.

Batman Inc, is kindof amazing.

And another note for Hawkeye if you aren't reading that.

This guy who owned this comic shop when I was a kid in Texas was this real surly old man. I was once bragging about having Amazing Spiderman #300 to him, I was like 10 so it was a big deal. He reaches back and busted out in succession: Thor #1
Oh no you di'unt ...

Thor isn't even close to the most exciting super-hero of all time. Those writers need to get over themselves.

I have to think that video cost more than anything he'll make off the book? What an interesting way to create buzz.
